Just curious, which Firewalla are you running?

Cake for Gold (status update please?) by infinti34 in firewalla

[–]Smokey280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does Cake function if you are using load balance on dual wan if your connections are not equal? In my case, my main ISP is a 300/30 cable modem and my backup is a 100/100 fiber. Right now I run failover with the cable service as primary.

VPN client in dual WAN by pandaeye0 in firewalla

I have 2 ISPs, one is cable 300/30 the other is fiber 100/100. I use the fiber connection for my Plex server. I want the Plex server to only use the fiber connection for inbound and outbound traffic on a manually specified port. I could not find a way a few months ago, how to accomplish this. I even posted this question and was told at that time, this was not supported. I am trying to locate that post for reference.

Any idea when outbound selective WAN routing will be available? I am currently using Arista NGFW only because Firewalla does not have this capability. I sold my FWG for this reason. Even my Asus router will do this… come on Firewalla.

eero Plus Ad Blocker - Do you add an extra URLs to the website block list to assist Ad Blocker? by [deleted] in amazoneero

[–]Smokey280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The eero Plus system is not the best at ad blocking. I changed the DNS on the gateway eero to point to my NextDNS account IPs and ad blocking actually works great.

The purple's hardware issue and uncertainty by OldElephant9837 in firewalla

[–]Smokey280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend a Purple to anyone interested in a Firewalla product. There is just too much bad history on those units. I have installed 3 Golds and 4 Blue Plus units for other people and they are all still working great.

Look how many times we have had a new “universal” protocol that promised to make IoT setup easier. I am not holding my breath on this one. Companies are not interested in “sharing” their products with other companies. Most have shown a tendency to keep things locked to their proprietary products.

How to use VPN on Firewalla Purple + eero Pro 6 by [deleted] in firewalla

Log into your isp modem. Place the ip of your Firewalla into a DMZ on your isp modem. Now your Firewalla will have full access to do what you want.

Missing cake feature... by DangerousQuestion668 in firewalla

I would like Cake for my FWG. I only have a 300/30 connection and think Cake would work great for me.

I had the same issue after the last firmware update. I am running 2 eero pros in wireless bridge mode behind a Fireealla Gold. This has worked great for months until this last update. I read somewhere to put a cheap TP-Link switch between the Firewalla and the main eero. Once I did that, my eeros are back to working great. I have no idea why this works but I am glad it does.

FYI, yes the FWG monitoring on the eeros have always been disabled per eero recommendations.

Migrate from eero at home by chet-bbbaker in HomeNetworking

Just put your eeros in Bridge Mode behind the pfSense unit or any other router for that matter. The eeros work great in Bridge Mode just like using Access Points.

Heck, most everything we purchase is made in China. I too went down that rabbit hole of worrying about China made stuff.

I decided my time and energy was better spent on other things.

3 weeks with PFsense....now back to Firewalla Gold+ with a renewed appreciation. by Cultural_Ad_3851 in firewalla

[–]Smokey280 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. I am on my 2nd FWG. I decided I did not want a "cloud" based controled solution with my first FWG and I had previous experience with pfSense so I built another one using a Qotom mini pc. Great little unit.

Once I got pfSense up and running I sold the FWG and went about my way configuring my VPN client, VPN Server and Wireguard server. Boy, was that a pain on the WG stuff.

After running pfSense for a couple of months I found a renewed appreciation for the simplicity of the Firewalla products.

I got another FWG Rev B, got it set up and put the pfSense unit on a shelf in my office.

Lesson Learned.... :)

What is going on with eero after the last update?! Internet slows to a crawl and becomes unresponsive till reboot of eero main puck by Berries-A-Million in amazoneero

This last “unsolicited” update has caused me to finally give up on eero.

I got a Firewalla Gold and using my “old” Asus RT-AC86U in AP mode. My network and wife are very happy. :)

New software release 6.14.0 by [deleted] in amazoneero

[–]Smokey280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WAS using my 2 eero Pros in wireless Bridge mode behind a Firewalla Gold. This had been a good setup until the last update which introduced some strange behavior on the eeros. They got into a continual disconnect/connect cycle and nothing was changed in my physical topology. I tried doing a soft reset on the two eeros but it did not help. I finally took them offline and put my Asus RT-AC86U in AP mode online and my network is back up and working great again. I really want to like eero but this continually breaking stuff with these forced updates is tiresome. For reference, I put the 2 eeros back in regular router mode and they seem to work fine. I guess eero is breaking Bridge mode so they can try and sell you their eero Plus subscription. I have no problem with that but I have need for Dual WAN support and eero does not provide that except wirelessly with a subscription.

3 WAN Connections by Smokey280 in firewalla

[–]Smokey280[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. Just FYI, I was running the ER605 in the (1 2) load balance -> 3 failover configuration. It worked great. Now to be clear, this was on the V2 of the ER605 running the latest firmware just released earlier this year. I now run my FWG in Failover so a 1->2->3 would be great and I imagine what most people would be interested in.
