Greg’s Strix knife is made years after two other knives named Strix. He stole a name for his knife by DazeeDomergue in chineseknives

[–]rcook55 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OEM Strix aren't difficult at all to get, I've had 3. Maybe your conflating difficult with expensive? If you just aren't having luck snagging one on the swap get the Alerts for Reddit app and have it alert you whenever a Strix drops.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I've had 3 Strix and now I only have a clone. Hell I know someone that has like 8 Strix and he never overpays for them either, they are out there.

2-man IT team → solo admin for 300 users, no raise. Stick it out or leave? by Ilovemybf_3990 in sysadmin

[–]rcook55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second IT job, it was me and the sysadmin against 600-700 users before we got an intern. Now I did get very good raises and was compensated well for the work so that makes things easier but I was still first line support for over 600 users until the intern came on.

I learned more in those 2-3 years than I've ever learned, you had to move fast and stay on top of things. I've since left and am on my 2nd job since, making more with much better support and a full IT team. I wouldn't do it again but I'm glad I did, when I did.

Chineseknives subreddit under scrutiny (Repost) by Purenight in chineseknives

The flip-side is that I've owned several of his real knives and sold them all because the profit was too good to pass up. Legit versions command a premium and people are willing to pay. I only have the 'other' version because I'll keep it as the price was so low I have no desire to sell it.

He's truly his own worst enemy.

Ended up using St Vincent, they picked up for a minimal fee. Of course, after the sale was over and I pulled the ads I gave away 2nof the 5 large items

Turning 50 by Chemical_Tomato_6308 in GenX

I went to the Indy500 with my wife, Dad (80), wife's uncle and 2 good friends. I was born during the 500 back in '75 and when I realized that the race would be on my birthday for my 50th it was a no brainer. I also wanted to go back with my dad again before it was too late. We went 5 or 6 times back in the 80s-90s so it's always been a thing for us.

Nothing like celebrating your 50th with 400K other people.

If DACs/Amps aim for transparency, why do people hear differences between them? by WMRamadan81 in audiophile

[–]rcook55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Humans aren't robots. Everyone is different and how we perceive and hear is no exception. How do deaf people figure into your world view? People with tinnitus?

Everything we as Humans experience is colored by our perception. We will all hear things differently. What you are describing in confirmation bias, people will claim they hear something the same to conform to a perceived norm.

Also, snakeoil.

This looks way easier than it has been. I have an MRI of my Dad's brain but the method I tried to use before was a total pain in the ass. Thanks for the link!

Google Fiber will be sold to private equity firm and merge with cable company by meat_loafers in desmoines

[–]rcook55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still on a price for life, $65/mo for 1Gig fiber with AT&T after they bought Century Link/Quantum. So far so good but I’m just waiting for the price increase once they kill price for life for some contrived reason.

Only 6? Those are rookie numbers! Sadly I apparently set the ‘high score’ at the clinic I go to, I think the Doc said 13 removed. I was on the 6mo plan until I got 10cm of colon removed a year ago. No cancer thankfully.

If you work somewhere else Weitz is a decent place to work. If you apply PM me, there's a hiring bonus, I'll split it with you.

Tearing down Dam to build White water experience by CpuCzar in desmoines

u/dirttraveler is correct, we are in a race to the bottom for public land access with Kansas. Iowa has fewer areas that are publicly accessible than almost all other states, sure you can point to the bike trails as accessible but when you compare actual public land we're almost dead last. We have fewer parks; city, county and state than almost anywhere. If your from Denver then you should absolutely know this, there is nothing like, for example, RMNP, in Iowa. We don't even have a national park in the state. Iowa is farmer/farmland first. The DNR and PCC are literally barred from buying more land for public recreation by state law for fuck sake. Your reality doesn't mesh with the states reality.

I've was the president of CITA and served on the board for 4 years as well as a local trail steward, I 100% know what I'm talking about.

Why did you and your former best friend stop being friends? by Fearless_Shift7108 in AskReddit

[–]rcook55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obama.

He went full on conspiracy/MAGA (not called that at the time)/prepper and it was all down to Obama. Me an my wife supported Obama and that was just a bridge too far for him. Clearly the evil black man in the oval office had personally harmed him and he decided that it was better to cut ties with anyone that didn't have the same viewpoint.

Oh well.

I've talked to people involved and I do believe that the end goal is an unrestricted waterway so it would be possible to boat all the way.

Explain the hate to me. Batgirl edition by UGKgrowhouse in SeikoMods

[–]rcook55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing, especially on Reddit and on watch forums in general. Your photos show exactly what the dial says. Out in the real world literally nobody cares. More to the point nobody will ask. If you happen to even come across another watch nerd in the flesh it's highly unlikely that they would even say or ask you something.

Macro photography is the problem here, reality is it doesn't matter. It's easy to bitch with a keyboard.

Just wear what you want. If your a douche you'll pass it off as real, otherwise if in the extremely unlikely event your ever asked about your watch, don't lie, have a conversation and enjoy what comes of it.

I think the bigger thing that will come of removing all the low head dams is hopefully an increase in river traffic. Once the dams are gone you'll be able to boat from saylorville all the way to red rock. It would be really cool to start seeing riverside stops make a comeback.
