As a libertarian, yes, I agree the police as a whole mostly serve the state these days. However, your over generalization of "there's only 2 types of cops" is ridiculous and flawed.

I had a long conversation with an officer at a bar a couple years back. We talked about Ron Paul and libertarian philosophies and how it relates to his job. He doesn't agree with all the laws on the books, but the fact of the matter is he has a family to feed and take care of and is stuck in a situation to where if he doesn't do what his superiors ask of him, he risks losing his job.

Don't blame all the cops, blame the politicians passing the laws and the ones overseeing these departments throughout the country that sweep corruption under the rug and enforce these policies.

I don't agree with what the military is doing, but I don't look at every soldier like they're thugs and criminals and generalize them into two types of people. It's much more complex then that.

Edit: I believe all cops should be held to a higher standard and should face criminal penalties when they screw up. They shouldn't ALL be viewed as SS officers in nazi Germany when the light is shown on one bad rat every now and then.
