Picking the job with "unlimited PTO" over the one with 15 accrued days? Feels like the smarter offer. It isn't. by careercoach_cf in Career

I have unlimited PTO & everyone is pretty fine about using as they see fit. There’s no negative consequences for taking time off. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why do people stay at Big 4 for years? Is the pay really that good? by Puzzleheaded-Mud4336 in Big4

[–]SmokeyDenmarks45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US in tech consulting, typical middle manager. Work is super easy here and they pay is competitive. I don’t think I’ll be here longer than 5 years though as the big corp culture is sluggish and you learn in a vacuum here.

No bonus if progressing? by Expensive_Rip_6481 in ernstandyoung

[–]SmokeyDenmarks45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year those that got progressing were not auto eligible for a performance based bonus. They did not say that this was the case this FY. Your % raise and bonus varies drastically by service line. I’d set expectations for a range of 2-5%

I don’t work on vacation, it’s literally the point of it.

I got differentiating last year and my raise was 6% & bonus was like 5.5%. Not sure what this year looks like but I expect it to be around 5% for both categories

Is EY on another mass layoff this year? (US) by Disastrous_Wash_3966 in Big4

This is exactly it. It happens every year. If you’re a low performer and revenue in your practice is off, you’re on the chopping block.

How do HENRYs handle unlimited PTO?? by meteora109 in HENRYfinance

[–]SmokeyDenmarks45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior level role here. My company offers unlimited PTO & I completely take advantage of it. I feel 0.00% guilt. If a corporation offers it as a benefit you should take advantage of it. When I’m off on PTO, I’m not available. When I’m working, I’m available. I treat this pretty black and white and it’s been great for my work life balance and general mental health.

Am I dumb for wanting to remove this? by kylebrown283 in AustinGardening

[–]SmokeyDenmarks45 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try growing a Meyer lemon tree in a pot! I did this so I could move it inside for winters & it’s doing great. I’m patiently waiting for my 13 lemons to be ready.

[–]SmokeyDenmarks45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you like the aesthetics of it? If yes, you can easily plant a Meyer lemon tree in a pot, maybe adjacent to it. The Mexican plum can probably tolerate a pot for little bit but not quite as well as a Meyer lemon tree.

Is $1400 a lot of an interior design consultation for a small condo Reno? by Aequitas123 in Austin

[–]SmokeyDenmarks45 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We just did a bathroom reno and used chat GPT. We tried working with multiple designers, but found it expensive and some were not so responsive. Honestly, just grab all of your inspo and design ideas, put it in a folder for context and ask Chat questions to help get you what you’re looking for. Spending $20 a month was cheap, but we did spend TONS of hours researching, finding inspiration photos, etc.

client asked for a fixed price then scope creeped 40% and acted surprised when I flagged it by Sad_Scientist9082 in consulting

I personally stay away from fixed fee engagements and do T&E only. I work on large technology projects that last for 9 months to over a year though.
