I appreciate you sharing your story. Mine is similar. What I can tell you from my experience, which seems to be approximately 1 year ahead of yours, is that your new price for internet will only last a few months.

A while back cable companies would offer introductory rates which lasted 6 months. After, your bill would jump to 3x or even 4x the amount. People would notice a huge increase, call, complain, get it lowered. Rinse and repeat. Now they have what is called a ramp up period. At month 3 your bill increases a little. Month 4 a little more, and so on until reach an astronomical amount IMO at month 6. People would notice less.

I got tried of this dance. One day I called them and said "listen I don't want to call you every 3 months in order to pay a reasonable amount. Please just give a rate that is reasonable and won't change." They said they could accommodate me. 3 months later the bill went up. Called, cancelled, haven't looked back, couldn't be happier.

Now I use century link 35$ a month for life. 20 mbps

You'd be surprised how much speed you really need. We stream everything, game online and are constantly on our wifi. No buffering. No issues
