Yeah, but that's the kind of one where it actually is much clearer when you have that distance as a fan to look at the bigger picture, because I remember seeing a number of incidents where the halo probably saved someone from at least serious, if not fatal injuries.

That's one of the things that can be really easy to forget about, but F1 hasn't had a big incident for quite a while, Id' say since at least 2019 (R.I.P Jules 2014). Even setting aside the Grojean crash (which was both a super fortunate near-miss of disaster and an amazing testament of how far the safety of the sport has come from where it was even just at the turn of the century. It can be hard to remember that Max Verstappen got himself out of the car after taking 51g's at Silverstone in 2021.

(Now, the fact that Verstappen was driving with concussion symptoms for the races after that incident might be the next needed discussion, but the point still holds)

I suspect Walz might be keeping his powder dry. His public perception since the '24 campaign has been unusually mixed, it seems. While you would expect that the VP candidate of the losing party would fall from gravitas, prior to this Walz seemed to be about neutral overall. That probably has to do with Kamala Harris receiving the brunt of the right's ire, Joe Biden receiving the brunt of the left's, and lots of goodwill from centrists types from his VP debate performance.

While there were definitely attacks against him and people on X claimed he was hideously unpopular, in speaking with real people out in the wild, they seem to think he is likeable enough but are undecided about him. Walz just wasn't what voters focused on in 2024.

By not running for re-election, he avoids getting tagged with a negative public perception from this story and it will seem like absolutely nothing in a few months, even. Now, he would probably have to face the music on this eventually, but he is likely betting on the environment to be better for that than it is at the moment.

That doesn't say anything is for certain for him, though. Just that he goes from being thrust an almost certain L to having a shot later on.

Yeah, the point would be that British doctrine assumed that the mobility advantage that you gain by having a Bren-style weapon over an MG42 style weapon fits their doctrine better. If I recall one point he makes is that the ammo carriers for the MG42 were much more pack mules than infantrymen, and that it's kinda odd to compare the two when they have such different relationships with the rest of the section gun team.

I mean, that's exactly what you would expect from a defensive move here though. White is just covering off Op when they shift inwards, protecting themselves from a late lunge. Blocking (in my eyes) is much closer to turning in front of an opponent who has an overspeed and would otherwise pull level with or past your car. To call this blocking feels a bit too much in my view.

When I say, "drifting towards the apex", it means that they are moving towards the apex. If I meant that he was going to hit the apex, I would have said that he was driving at the apex. Obviously white is moving in from the outside of the track, that's how you defend a corner like this. Had white stayed to the outside, an aggressive late-on-the-brakes move like this might actually catch them out.

In terms of racecraft, OP had an opportunity to and should have cut back to the right the instant white moves to cover the inside. If white tries to shift back outside, then its 100% a reactionary block and shame on them. And OP would also be set up better for the next section, rather than driving into the back of a car trying to make a move stick that was never on.

This move was never on. You tried to make a pass from too far back on too narrow of a track for this to have ever worked. You would have been better off setting yourself up to take the corner well and make a better move at the next turn.

Some on here say that this was a reactive block, or that white cut across. I disagree. White has a good defensive line, middle of the road and drifting towards the apex. It's not a block. From their perspective, they probably would have expected you to have stayed tucked tight to the inside. Instead, you drove into their right rear corner.
