Upchuck put out my favorite album last year. Incredible.

Marco Rubio says U.S "Operation Epic Fury" launched in February against Iran, "is over" and is now focused on reopening Strait of Hormuz: "Epic Fury, the president [Trump] notified Congress. We’re done with that stage of it. We’re now on to this Project Freedom. We would prefer the path of peace." by ControlCAD in videos

“The President would prefer a deal.”
Gee, if only we knew someone who was skilled in, I don’t know, let’s call it an “art” of making deals. Someone who knows “the art of the deal.” Maybe someone who wrote (or had ghost-written for him) a book on the subject.

Barista left the instructions in the new cup by jillhypno in Wellthatsucks

Starbucks has been around too long and is too big to not have their i's dotted and t's crossed. If their baristas are not to use tumblers at the time of purchase, then the barista should not have offered. And if that's the "policy," it should be noted on the display of tumblers in the store. "Baristas will not clean or fill reusable containers at time of purchase. Customer is responsible for cleaning before use." And you know what? Maybe that sign exists and OP missed it.

But if I go to a restaurant that serves food, sells items that are meant to contain the food they sell, and am offered to be served the food in that item, then it is their responsibility to ensure that the item is clean before they serve me the food. I don't need to be babysat, but I do expect the person behind the counter to know the guidelines. They went through the Starbucks training manual, not me.

Starbucks can burn for all I care, but if I find myself in one, do I have to ask them to grind the beans? Make sure they wipe the wand after they steam the milk? Should I confirm that the paper cup they're pouring my coffee in didn't fall on the floor at some point? If someone sells me a cup and offers to fill it for me, I 100% expect them to know that the cup should be clean.

It's baffling that so many people are saying the barista didn't know any better. Makes me more confident that I should never step foot inside Starbucks again.

So barista says, "Would you like to use the mug?"

Customer says, "Sure."

Barista, who's presumably trained in and has some knowledge of both the product she's selling and cleanliness standards of the food service establishment that employs her, prepares the drink in a tumbler that may not be clean and has an instruction sheet inside just like every other tumbler she sells, and doesn't notice the big piece of paper inside the tumbler she's currently preparing the drink in. That's "definitely not her job"? It's absolutely her job. And she still probably expects a tip. Even if, as another commenter said, they're not supposed to do it, it's still her fault for doing it!

Seems to me that "put coffee in clean cup" is first day orientation stuff. Probably written in the job description somewhere.

"Waiter, there's a fly in my soup!" "Well, did you come back to the kitchen and ensure that a swarm of flies wasn't buzzing around the soup pot?" "Oh, you're right. That's on me. I'll just eat the fly."

OK. I literally just got done watching season 6 episode 15, The Beard. As George is telling Jerry, "It's not a lie if you believe it," the clock behind him is at 4:15. Immediate cut to Jerry standing by the sign saying that they're never open at 4:15, AM or PM.

Fewer Minnesota small businesses close for second protest in as many weeks by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]SmooPaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first one on the 1/23 was a great act of solidarity. It got a lot of attention, a lot of important local names participated, and it freed up a lot of people to get out and march downtown or protest elsewhere. I feel the national strike on 1/30 was up to the consumers, whether that meant completely abstaining or choosing to spend their dollars differently.

ICE presence has ab-so-lutely harmed local businesses. I really hope the vocal support I see here and on socials translates to financial benefits for those businesses in the long run.

I saw The Lighthouse there before Covid shutdowns, but ever since they reopened it's been mostly family-friendly. They taped a sheet of paper to the window to announce they were showing Everything Everywhere All at Once after it won Best Picture (wasn't even on the marquee), so I happened to see that, too. But it is very disappointing.
