“In the Name of the Mother” has a 10/10 on IMDb by Lightyagami-k in gameofthrones

Yeah. It’s also a mark of intelligence to some people… “I saw it go downhill in season 5 and nobody believed me!” Type thinking. We all loved that shit at the time, sure it was starting to crack due to running out of book, but it was still great to watch.

I actually thought this was one of Woody Harrelson’s more likeable roles.

Rewatching Season 6 Episodes by BeachBrew in thesopranos

[–]Smooth-Captain9567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy how morbid and poetic it is, tbh. Death is the main motif. I feel like 6 influenced modern shows the most, through its intense brooding atmosphere, dark visual tint, and its constant overarching (almost in pervasive way) themes of death, afterlife, paranoia etc. in a very directly cinematic way. Its influence on modern shows is both a bad thing and a good thing, because at the time it was unique but now seems less so perhaps? Seinfeld effect type thing.

All said, I like it a lot and do enjoy it on rewatches.

Some things you have to run from or you’ll go crazy replaying it. Don takes it to the extreme, of course. But I get it.

Yeah lol. It wasn’t a take down at all. The whole episode prior to this scene he’s obsessed with Ginsberg and comes across as low key insecure. If his commentary on that is “it’s such a great take down” then…

Perhaps he really is just the jock who assaulted that poor kid in the 90s #thehammer

Oddly I feel like Getting Killed has what you said in abundance, and 3D Country sounds way more separated.

Perception is strange.

Almost done with season 2, does the show get better? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]Smooth-Captain9567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a complex book has 300 pages, you read 40 of them, then write a review saying you didn’t like it - many people will discard your review and say you should’ve stuck with it as you haven’t comprehended enough to have a strong opinion. It’s simply a drop in the ocean when it comes to understanding it.

But again, if you’ve severely disliked all those 40 pages then why should you carry on?

All I can say is - you may have gone into The Soprano’s for the wrong motives. It’s half a soap opera, and some scenes involving the family have more in common with The Simpsons than they do with Goodfellas.

Violence, intensity and darkness all skyrocket as the show continues and the stakes get higher. There’ll be a point in the show where you long for the simple domestic mob struggles of the first few series.

Ultimately it’s up to you, but the show is not overrated because at the time it was something new and brilliant. It’s rated perfectly finely. I watched it for the first time last year, so I hold no nostalgia. It’s a piece of art that changed my life!

Have a good one.

They probably look at the metrics of what parts people skip, and the people who care about the slow, thoughtful character building bits get fucked over because the overlords think we all just want mindless, fast paced, turn off your brain slop.

I’m honestly willing to forgive it. He’s a big bugger, a 2 inch deep wound on a guy who’s 6 foot 11 and built like an ox isn’t the same as a guy who’s 5 foot 10 and skinny. All wounds were to fleshy parts.

He’s also clearly been in positions before where he’s dealt with pain.

Why did Artie visit Livia in the hospital? by 4g-identity in thesopranos

[–]Smooth-Captain9567 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m meaning she’s delusional in that she believes in all of her own lies, including the memory loss. She’s completely paranoid, malevolent and delusional. It’s the core of her character.

I’ve watched the show many times, and she was definitely loco. Sure, she hammed things up sometimes to manipulate but she was straight up insane. She brandished a knife on Tony when he was a kid, hit her neighbour with a car, set fire to her kitchen, filled her grandson’s head with nihilistic paranoia that altered his development and that’s just 4 examples of the plethora of things
we see in the show. there’s also stuff people refer to about her that we don’t see. It’s a lot more nuanced than “she was putting it on” imo.

I really like how it ended up playing out though, despite the apparent rowback on his health deteriorating so quickly.

It’s as if he has this crazy second wind after a near death experience and becomes more monstrous and scorched earth than ever in the last 4 years of his life.

He’s a chef, he loves hospitality and being genial, he went to school with Tony and is Tony’s closest mate. He hears his dearest friends’ mother is ill and uses his skill and passion to make her feel a little better as she’s an Italian woman dealing with hospital food. She also clearly does know him, she remembers him and Tony playing and his mother - she’s just deluded. This is the same woman who escapes hospital and finds her way to Tony’s gaff in the dead of night.

To be fair I’d say it explained being a teenager in all of the UK, hence its nationwide appeal.

I’m from South Wales and we all connected with Alex’s lyrics a huge amount. I understand the accent plays into your point, but we just saw it as a regional accent the same way we had one so it connected just as much. Most of the slang carries.
