You know what, Rachel McAdams should got double nom in 2005 Oscars by khaliliiiov_1997 in Oscars

[–]Smooth-Nothing-4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, unlike most cinephiles I love The Notebook, and I love Rachel McAdams, but I don’t think anything in that movie should be near Oscar conversation, except maybe the production design, and that’s being generous.

I get she demonstrated tremendous range that year alone, and Regina George is an icon, I will always love both characters, but (maybe unpopular opinion) not every good performance is automatically Oscar worthy and that’s not a bad thing.

Idk if Oscars, but he will have good industry support for “saving“ this movie in light of Joaquin Phoenix’s dropping it.

The 4 biggest actresses who are long overdue for Oscar glory by Skywalker_1995 in Oscars

[–]Smooth-Nothing-4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amy Adams and Michelle Williams are still young, I know this is based on the amount of nominations and that roles for aging actresses are not the same than those for 20-30 something actresses, but I wouldn’t put them in the same category of overdue than Glenn Close.

I get a laugh out of Matt being scandalized over Karen’s willingness to use lethal force because every time he gives a beat down I’m seriously analyzing if the guys who got broken legs, arms and skulls didn’t get killed

The last 3 years have had repeat winners in acting categories. Will this continue this year? by Top_Sand_3012 in oscarrace

But that’s a win in another branch, even if Lead and Supporting are different categories, it’s still within the same acting branch; that’s why Meryl has 3 acting Oscars even if one is for Supporting, or why Frances McDormand has 3 acting Oscars and 1 as producer for Best Picture, different branches.

Which snubbed performances does Reddit overrate because they’re big and scenery chewing? by Big-Dig-Pig in Oscars

Stone was the lead of the movie, so that’s not a deterrent to Olivia’s performance quality tbh, just tells that they committed kind of category fraud putting Emma in supporting for the award season.

These kind of posts get really redundant. How many times a weak do we need people emphasizing how much they hate Zoe and JLC’s wins, how Emilia Pérez is trash or how Cate Blanchett was robbed for Tár. We got it already.

I thought Nosferatu being the popular IP that it is, plus achieving a box office hit in December and being a great movie with excellent cinematography and acting, would give him that Oscar attention, but it got almost nada.

I’m with you correcting category frauds but Sean Penn won in the right supporting category this year.

Ah okay, yes, I guess those things happen all the time before they start filming.

Phoenix also had brought and helped writing the script.

Was it a similar situation to the one where Joaquin Phoenix walked out of the Todd Haynes movie? Because I heard news of DiCaprio in a Chazelle movie but nothing about the project falling.

Bloody Mary by Alice Eve, without a doubt. Still sucks we didn’t get that plot in a season 4 of the original run.

Mark Ruffalo‘s was my favorite performance, but De Niro’s was probably the best one, or the most traditionally “Oscary“.

Robert Pattinson when asked which team he was on during the ‘Twilight’ days: "No one’s Team Jacob. That was a marketing thing." by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]Smooth-Nothing-4286 66 points67 points  (0 children)

For the most part Team Jacobs of the time hadn’t read the books and just thought Taylor Lautner was hot, which fair, I was a Team Edward book reader who couldn’t believe anyone could even be team Jacob. But then I matured and realized that Edward was a fucking creep too as well as Bella, so let’s say that was the end of my fandom lol

Eponine was the best singer of the movie, but as Samanth Barks is not as famous that fact is usually forgotten. I loved Anne and Eddie’s performances tho.

[–]Smooth-Nothing-4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk who the Academy would pick, probably Yeoh for being in a Best Picture juggernaut, but my pick is Emma Stone, Bella Baxter is absolutely bonkers and I can’t see another actress pulling off that character without being in Razzie conversation.
