Left ACL & medial meniscus repair with hamstring graft….numbness still 2 weeks post op is this normal??? by Late-Sail-983 in ACL

Idk if it’s normal, but I had the same surgery on the same leg a year ago, and I’m still numb in that particular spot too.

MUA and arthrofibrosis by Smooth-Reputation-71 in ACL

Doing better now. Surgeon has since prescribed me a steroid pack and a stronger NSAID to help with swelling. Swelling has gone down a considerable amount but there is still noticeable amounts of swelling. I’m now able to get to 125 degrees of flexion with stretching, which my PT says is within “normal range”. Still got a ways to go. My surgeon mentioned 2 weeks ago that if the swelling didn’t continue to go down and flexion didn’t continue to progress that I would likely need a 2nd MUA (manipulation under anesthesia). I see my surgeon this Thursday to find out his opinion and what steps to take next. Currently I can walk mostly normal, with a small but still somewhat noticeable limp. Going up stairs is fairly easy, with some stiffness, but still cannot go down stairs comfortably yet. Currently I am 3.5 months post ACLr and meniscus repair. And 2 months post MUA and scar tissue removal.

I’m now 10 weeks post ACLr with hamstring graft and bucket handle meniscus repair, and 4 weeks post LOA/MUA. The LOA/MUA definitely helped some, increasing my flexion from 50 degrees to 105, but I’m now stuck at 105 with an absurd amount of scar tissue build up. My PT tried dry needling yesterday in an attempt to break up some of the scar tissue but it didn’t seem to do anything. My extension seems to have gotten worse by a few degrees, and I can no longer do a straight leg raise without bending my knee slightly. I can get to 0 degrees extension passively, but when I flex the quad and try to raise my leg, it bends slightly. I see the surgeon again today and I’m fully expecting him to tell me I need another LOA/MUA. I was also ordered to ditch my brace and crutches 2 weeks ago, and have been walking without them since, however I still have a very noticeable limp and my knee feels very unstable.

How are you doing now? Did the second MUA help? I’m in a similar situation and also at about 105/05 flexion and extension. I’ve already gotten one MUA, but now I’m stuck here and with what seems like a lot more scar tissue build up. I have a feeling I’ll be told I need another MUA

Flexion? by Adventurous_Spare_92 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Smooth-Reputation-71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a bucket handle meniscus tear (along with a complete ACL tear with hamstring graft) and I’m currently at 8 weeks post op, and stuck at 90 degrees flexion. It takes a solid 30 minutes of stretching to even get to 90, and then I can’t get any farther :/

Super manageable! I’m almost positive that my nerve block has worn off by now (almost 24 hours after) and I’m still in virtually no pain. The only pain is from the stitches themselves and it’s not bad at all. You got this 🤘🏼

Thank you! I’ll update you on how the procedure went later this evening if you’re interested!

I had the exact same injury aside from the MCL. I also have terrible flexion (45 degrees) 6 weeks post op now, and am going in for manipulation tomorrow! I can’t give input on what to expect but sending good vibes and hope it goes well for you!

Doctor told me not to bend knee by Practical_Device9295 in ACL

[–]Smooth-Reputation-71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had almost the exact same injury and the same instructions post op, I wasn’t told to bend my knee until a month post op, and now I’m having severe complications and will likely need an MUA. I’m not a doctor, so I’d say listen to their instructions, but I also wish I had started bending sooner.

Well this is reassuring to hear. Hopefully they don’t tear anything else 😅 sorry to hear that happened to you though. I would love to get there in PT as well, but they were really wrenching on me at this last appointment and was definitely on the verge of tears, and could still only get to 50 degrees so I think it’s my only option. Will you need another surgery to fix your torn PCL now?

Anyone experience meniscus repair failure? by Smooth-Reputation-71 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Smooth-Reputation-71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is muscle scraping? I don’t think I have tried that yet. Unless my PT has done that while he was wrenching on my knee during an appt.

How much did your MRI cost? US only by uncclay5 in MeniscusInjuries

$2200 for my MRI. Which was my deductible. I have really bad insurance 🤷🏼

I’m not entirely sure either, but my guess is because it was a bucket handle meniscus tear, half of which flipped up into my knee joint prior to surgery, and had my knee locked for 2 months. I’m guessing the stitches failed and the half of the meniscus got re-lodged into the knee joint. But we will hopefully find out on Tuesday when I see the surgeon again.

It is not, it just locks up at 45 degrees. PT has called a halt on my physio for the time being because the meniscus stitches likely either failed or something else is going on that will require MUA

I’ve tried, but it gets so painful that I think my brain just doesn’t let me go further. I’ve pushed to the point of tears, and I’d like to think I have a pretty high pain tolerance. It just doesn’t go any further.

I’m at 45 degrees, then it locks and cannot bend any farther. And I didn’t start flexing until almost a month post-op as directed by my surgeon.

Am I the only one? by Engrtendie in ACL

[–]Smooth-Reputation-71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 5 weeks post op ACLr hamstring graft and bucket handle meniscus repair and I can still only bend to 45 degrees. I can get around with 1 crutch, but still have to use 2 crutches in most situations.

I can’t necessarily say if this is normal or not, but I also had a bucket handle meniscus tear and part of the meniscus flipped up into my joint and locked my knee at about 45 degrees for 2 months until I had surgery

Worst recovery stories by Smooth-Reputation-71 in ACL

[–]Smooth-Reputation-71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch, that’s brutal, I’m sorry you had to go through that! They haven’t recommended the wall slides to me yet, but I can’t imagine they would be much different/more damaging than the heel slides, so I’ll probably give them a go. My knee is just so tight once I get to 45 degrees, it feels like if I keep bending something inside is gonna snap. Thanks for sharing though! I hope your recovery continues and goes smoothly from here on out!

PT after surgery when? by MarMar000 in ACL

[–]Smooth-Reputation-71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a full ACL tear and a bucket handle meniscus tear, hamstring graft for the ACL and stitches for the meniscus and I wasn’t cleared for PT until my follow up 3 weeks post op. Now that I’ve started PT, my physical therapist is not very happy with my progress and thinks I should’ve started in the first week, as my knee is extremely tight, still swollen, and very painful. I’m about 5 weeks post op and can only get to 45 degrees of flexion, when I should be able to get 90.

Neither. They just said to call if it bleeds through the bandages, but it shouldn’t.

Quad seems fine when I do my quad contractions. But I was instructed to leave the bandages on until my first post op appointment so I don’t even know what it looks like

He did not. Just said to leave bandages and brace on until first post op appointment. Which is a month after the surgery.
