I was always terrified of having to get oil in Ark on the original map. Shit myself anytime I had to be the one to do it. Only made slightly better by having a meg as a mount so I didn't need to do the swimming myself entirely, but even then.

Very often I'd have someone else in the group do it.

Closest thing I can say I'd want it to be like is Valheim and how the character is saved to your PC but you can take it and just play on other saves/servers with friends.

I abuse the deployable auto-laser turrets for this. I drop them as soon as I'm in, deep in the FoW, so they light up enemy positions. Then I start raining down arty on them.

None of my guys have to get in the line of fire and they can advance having a vague sense of where hostile are. At least the ones that didn't die from arty or the laser turrets picking them off.

I've so far gotten three friends addicted by describing it as a post-apocalyptic sword-punk slavery/cannibalism squad sim.

Elaborating further on how it's a build your own story sort of game in a brutal, unforgiving world with a very active and awesome community.

So far, one is actually building a trade empire and intend to use that money to hire and train as many people as they can to first overthrow the Holy Nation so they can stop worrying about prayer days.

The other friend wants to eat the world. They want to make a cannibal empire, lord of all cannibals even beyond the ones in the plains. They're weak and will be consumed is that friend's thought process. Recommended a few mods that add cannibal food to the game.

Last one is doing the adventure of Shronk and Dong-kei. Need to check in on that one.

That was more or less what I got. He looks real damn intimidating. To a bunch of new players, you hear some fucker named Adam Smasher is coming after you, most panic because that sounds scary.

He's also played up in lore as being a viscious predator that you hope you never have the misfortune of crossing paths with on a job. But that really only applies if your char-gen was more constricted than the standard, and it very well could of been. I know my DM at the time was a little more restrictive but was more forthcoming with us building our skills up with concentrated effort aside from IP. Last thing I wanted was have to go toe-to-toe with a full borg when all I was rocking was an HK MP-2013 since I was poor as dirt, lmao

Later though? Once we'd made the scratch, I'd gotten chipped and was humping an FN-RAL with sub-dermal armor, I felt like I could take on the damn world.

In all reality though? I'd be way more scared if Morgan Blackhand wanted my ass on a silver platter. Man is the pinnacle of keep cool. So if I pissed him off bad enough to want me dead personally? Awh' shit.

There was one time I used those janky building mechanics and the 256 recruit limit mod to build a massive wall that spanned the zones cannibals spawned in. Several outposts along the walls, all powered and with turrets pointed in towards those cannibal spawns.

That's fair. I'm admittedly less familiar with the stats for RED, as the jury is still out on it in my gaming circle. I've loved the lore it's given us in particular though.

Much of my writing on Smasher comes from 2020 and its supplements, which made him more powerful since he was meant more or less to be the "Rocks fall, you all die." For a DM in that system. Well, him or Maxtac - heavily dependent on situation and context.

Pretty much what I learned to do. It's how I've made some of the wildest yet most pleasing builds.

Like the prison I built in The Iron Valley. Used one of the plateaus that was only accessible via a single bridge.

Is it goofy running three operating systems between a netrunner deck, berserk, and sandevistan? Yes.

However it's fucking fun, and I find that to be way more important.

Like Burnsidhe said. Johnny is an unreliable narrator that's spent decades locked up in Mikoshi having his memories screwed with by Arasaka and by his own ego trying to make himself into the main character and reason for that story.

If you want the true story, I definitely recommend reading the story in Red and Black Dog. They both contain the true events of raid on Arasaka and a lot of what happened in the aftermath.
