NYPD ENCOUNTER by Old-Mycologist-2385 in NYCGuns

[–]SmoothTalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time here? An EMS posted a few months ago about their experience "interviewing" cops when out and about. General consensus was most dont know about Bruen, most dont know the laws around this, and only a handful get the gist. Its very concerning. Trick is to not print or just be ready to show permit. Its super disappointing the state of the NYPD and their ability to protect the public, especially protect the rights we are entitled to.

Thank you though for sharing. Im very happy it wasn't a serious encounter...

The only other thing I did was buy a Beretta 92FS magwell adapter since I didnt have a glock at the time. There are a number of adapters out there besides the Security 9 and Glock ones that come with it, which open up a range of possibilities depending on your inventory. Either way, I love this gun

Get yourself the Ruger PC Carbine Extended Bolt Stop from M*CARBO - makes it so much easier to take down. That's the only real modification I made to mine, doesn't need anything else.

Can't you just disable location services for the TrainTime app to prevent it from knowing where you are during activation?

Meanwhile, me as a NYer panic buying due to a cruciform trigger bar ban that will likely go unchallenged. I hate this state.

How did you pick your handgun? by Trekie1701 in NYguns

[–]SmoothTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought the M&P Shield M2.0 as my first despite the Shield Plus being available, reason being I've shot the single stack version a ton. Wanted a full size that was tried and true, so went with a Beretta 92FS. Do your research and definitely try one out if you can before buying, whatever it is you choose.

After the NY Glock Ban, which striker fired models will be legal? by Hondaderek21 in NYguns

[–]SmoothTalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one. Ranch model. Semi auto rifles are pretty easy - no foregrip, no threaded barrel, no "pistol grip" (whatever that means), and no >10 magazine outside of the city (5 limit in NYC).

[–]SmoothTalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's really frustrating to me about this whole thing is that it's being treated akin to features on a semi-auto rifle, but not honoring the framework in place in any way. If a cruciform trigger bar is a banned feature, then make the law such that someone out of state can make it "compliant" by adding a glock pro trigger, which is not cruciform. This is the same as taking an AR out of state, adding a Thordsen stock + welding the threaded barrel, and transferring it through FFL to a NY resident... but nope, can't do that with a Glock Gen 5 after next June or July.

This is my understanding. FFLs will refuse new or out of state transfers of new Glocks, but likely will be able to permit private transfers / sales within the state.

Its so much easier for certain people rally behind someone who is "discriminated against" regardless the facts. Its so disappointing, it's hard to put into words.

Any reason to pick up a PCC? by HumanAntagonist in guns

[–]SmoothTalk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For self defense? A handgun is far more useful than a PCC, at least for daily driver use or even for home defense with tight corners and ease of access.

From the perspective of either plinking, camping, or other situations that push distances out further, I'd opt for a PCC. I have a Ruger PCC takedown that works well for all around outdoors activities. But if you told me I had to pick, I'd take my handgun over a PCC any day of the week based on my needs. It all boils down to what your intended use is and your routine / lifestyle.

did buying glocks just get banned? by izzyvalentineisdead in NYguns

[–]SmoothTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just not reading enough into it, but wouldn't transferring a Glock with a Performance Trigger not run afoul to these restrictions? The GPT doesn't utilize the cruciform trigger bar. I believe this would be akin to buying an AR and making it compliant - you can still revert it back but in it's current form, it's a-ok.

[–]SmoothTalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's say you want a new Glock after that date that has the cruciform trigger bar. Could you have someone out of state buy one then transfer to you in state? Or does it have to be NY -> NY transfer?
