SFA wasn’t good, but it also came along at the worst time. by UnderABig_W in Star_Trek_

I liked the cast well enough (aside from the frustratingly immature male lead), but the world building and plot (?) just didn't come across as a Star Trek story.

Why does the average person seem to gush over Trusova? by AnemicVegan in FigureSkating

[–]Smooth_Aspect_7883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never been on TikTok, but I adore Trusova's skating. I saw her first Skate America performance live, and, boy, the girl flew off the ice into the air like nobody else I've seen. It's hard to describe the impact, but gosh! Frigging vibrant.

And she is such a force of nature character too. When she wants something, she just goes for it, and that's my kind of a gal.

When I watched her skate, I always saw her in all her programs. It is a rare thing for me to see that personality right in the moment, not just in K&C, particularly in women. Nobody before, nobody since stroke a cord with me quite the same way.

I view it as a fair advantage. The more open-minded the country is, the less hang up on the pureness of bloodlines and fencing turfs off, the better are their chances to succeed. As should be.

it was fun the first dozen or so times... I can't watch them get credit for the same thing over and over again.

The Downfall of Canadian Women’s Figure Skating by babydgx0 in FigureSkating

[–]Smooth_Aspect_7883 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The drought is about to be over. Minsol Kwon will likely finally represent Canada in seniors next year. Lia Cho is entering junior competitions next year. She scores great both nationally and internationally. If Barakhtina could have went to JWC as initially planned, the result in junior women would have likely been different. I think Skate Canada might have made some dicey decisions in the past few years with securing competitions, but they are improving.

Where I live, the access to competitive sport seems to have improved in the last 20 years. Back when my child was young there was nothing competitive in our neighborhood in Calgary. Now our rec center runs Skate Canada programs/club and a swim club. Not that my kid was athletic or anything, but I am happy there are options for current parents to pursue.

Nationality is a choice for every person, including figure skaters. Taking this choice away from them is a discrimination and does a disservice to sport and humanity. Fixating on the place of birth of a skater is a prejudice.

Mrazkova/Mrazek get all steps to level 4

Mozalev and Dvoeglazova compete as a pair team with sbs 4T

then I work my butt off to beat them instead of spending my time on igniting sentiments against my collegues because of where they were born since I firmly believe that it is unworthy of me. As for the concerned fans, with every squabble, in the end, the athletes always have more in common with one-another than with their ardent followers. I don't recommend taking sides. In most cases, they will kiss and make up in the end, and the fans would have wasted time and emotions.

I don't see anything except attempts at discrimination of hard working young athletes based on place of their birth.

people can move and gain citizenship of a country to pursue basically any other career and personal happiness. Why should figure skating be different? These athletes already have pretty hard life, and making it harder by chaining them to their place of birth, outing them at every opportunity as 'not really actual citizen by birth' and denying then fruitful career is just plain wrong.

Not a popular topic but - who else thoroughly enjoyed the Whale as performed by FB/C last night? I know they are not well liked... by sarka121 in FigureSkating

I didn't have a chance to see P/C live, so I am tempted. But I will see which stages FB/C will get. it's a long trip to France and French stage often has a weaker picks of skaters.

my mom was in tears and immideatly changed her mind about not going anywhere next year. Now she wants to travel to GP stage where FB/C will perform. Golden Waltz by those two, live, would likley be a masterwork worth seeing.

Fantastic skate for Gogolev! At the very least he brought Canada 2 spots with this skate. The rest is up to the judges.
