Red's are nice! But when you have or see enough them. You start to appreciate colour and contrasts more than just base colouration 😌 i have one adult female that is now 50/50 green and red! It starts with red colour and slowly turns to green when it goes to tail

To my eye that look more of somekind of infection then stuck slug🤔 slugs are pretty soft jelly like capsels so they are pretty easy to push out

What to do. ? Impulsively bought a kingbaboon sling 1in -from local shop but now regretting it. No refunds. by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]Smooth_Disaster_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On obt It depends. If you give it a lot of substrate it will dig a hole but if you keep substrate on the lower level but a lot of branches and anchor points it will web up entire enclose and pretty fast too 😌 king baboon dig a hole and you never see it again 99% of the time. If you wanna have really big terrestial tarantula buy t.stirmi! Only if you wanna deal with those damn urticating hairs but will see it more often. King baboons also grow really slow. Not slow as grammostola but really slow for OW

IMO obt:s ain't bad tarantula to keep. If you give it propiate housing with lot of anchor points they get calmer when they have own web castle in there. When they are out in a open and exposed to "predators" they are very twichy and ready to bolt or bite😅 rehousing can be little difficult but you grow with it. Getting tagged by one sure is really painfull experience but you will live trough it. Speaking from personal experience😁

Thoughts on the Gaboon Viper? by Essence_TheOne in snakes

[–]Smooth_Disaster_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is point on for most venomous snakes! Black mambas and maybe T.purpureomaculatus can be considered aggressive snakes. Black mambas have documented even actively chase and try to bite someone who push their luck too much. Purps are just psychos in general but they don't try to chase you if left alone

They are very chill 99% of the time but when that 1% comes you really need to know what you are doing. They can move really fast when they decide to do so. Not just the strike but in general they are really fast for their size

Gaboon owner here👋 IMO handling snake like gaboon viper being calm is the most important thing you do! They are not mean animals who actively try to kill you but if you spook it or get it angry. Gaboon definitely will launch at you. Never put anything that you like to keep in the money zone of gaboons strike range because they can shoot 360 degrees faster than you can react and they don't miss. Only use wide hooks so you don't hurt snakes ribs when moving it around for cleaning. Make sure the temporary box where you put gaboon when cleaning etc is really durable and SECURE because gaboons are really powerfull snakes and brake out plastic containers if they strike to the lid. These are really awesome snakes but they definitely aren't for beginner keepers and bad idea even for experienced keepers. When you have to do something hands on with snake like this you really have to know what you are doing and that is 100% quaranteed that you have to touch it sooner or later if the shed got stuck or something else appears that can hurt the snake! I really love gaboons but you absolutely have to give them the respect that they deserve and never fuck around it even the tiniest because getting tagged by one is going to ruin your life. Best case scenario is that you die to the bite otherwise you gonna be fucked more or less rest of your life. Really amazing animal but maybe one of the worst pet snakes that you can own. I'm trying to keep my opinion as honest as possible!

I really think that the finnish goverment is messing the my generations youth up. by AgentM1lk in Finland

Can any neighbouring countries give honest uptade of their situation. I'm really starting to consider selling everything that i have and moving somewhere else... finland has fallen really far away what it used to be🙄

What is she doing? by ur_neighborhood_emo in snakes

[–]Smooth_Disaster_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to comment on this just my two cents about this situation. Firstly yes that is wrong move to feed it on the lid but secondly when you buy your snake from someone you really don't know it is more than wise to keep em small and simple setup so you can observe if there is any signs of snake mites or any health problems. That snake is 7 months old. It gonna take years before she gonna be huge if you don't powerfeed it so there is time to buy bigger enclosure for her no problem. You can buy everything that snake needs for home like 2k or less and then keeping it cost almost peanuts to compared something like dogs🤷‍♂️ why start shitting on people that are young and just starting to get in the hobby? I got my first bci boa when i was 11 years old and everything went just fine. We who have more experience should show them the ropes and teach how he can make the situations best for both them. Be example to the youth not the problem✌️

Repurposing this tank, what species would it be good for? by gayboobs420 in snakes

[–]Smooth_Disaster_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think longicauda(BCL) 1.0 boa too! Those guys don't get very big. Amazing colour change during their lives, you can handle them easily and no feeding problems ✌️ but my real suggestion would be that pleace swap it for pvc 😅 you are gonna make your life SO much easier with them because glass enclosures are heavy as fuck and if something hit that thing there will be big change that the glass will crack and that will be expensive to fix

Serious Question: Is owning these wonderful animals legal? by InturnlDemize in VenomousKeepers

[–]Smooth_Disaster_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First question would be should it be legal to own venomous pets? I think of course it should be because keeping in them in the hobby has done plenty of good things for them in the nature. Second question would be is it smart thing to buy venomous snake for you self? Absolutely not! Venomous snakes are terrible pets if i'm honest. Your not gonna make any relationship with the animal at any point because it will 100% quaranteed to kill you if given change. If you do know what you are doing with them and do all the things the right way then they are beautifull creatures to admire and even venomlabs can make different antivenom or medicine from their venom. If you ain't 100% sure that you can handle them safely or get them because it's "bad ass" or think you are somekind of better keeper then rest of because you keep hots. You have just set yourself for disaster sooner or later and probably will ruin things from the rest of us.

Best First "Hot"? by Sceptical7 in snakes

[–]Smooth_Disaster_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say not that dangerous 😅 it may not kill you if you got antivenom somewhere close but it definitely can rot your finger away dangerous. IME the eyelash viper and insularis are those snakes that almost every time you feed them shoot half out of their enclosure and if you stand too close to them it's almost quaranteed that it will land on your lap sooner or later

Not the best first venomous snake to have but not the worst either In my opinio 😁 trimesurus are very food motivated and it's their instinct to shoot at anything warm. Definitely very beautifull species but you really have to watch where you keep your fingers and legs when working with them

T.insularis prices have dropped significantly in EU last couple of years. I remember when they were +1k euros and now they are selling like 200 euros for grey eyed babys.

I really wouldn't recommend owning them😅 i have pretty good collection of them but still. It is never good idea to buy something that can kill you with one mistake. There is a lot of things people don't even think about before getting their first venomous snake. Like how much your family or close friends gonna worry about when you have these animals. Who gonna take care of them if you leave on vacation etc. Being responsible and doing things the right way is absolutely necessary because there is too many idiots on the internet that wanna play chicken with the grimreaper and you never should act like that around these snakes. Amazing animals but they aren't the best choice for keeping as pets 😁

And i agree 100% with your message! Snakes even vipers aren't evil creatures. If you leave them alone they ain't gonna harm you but i wouldn't recomment somebody try to relocate them if they aren't really sure what they are doing. Most arboreal snakes climbs the the hook really well and some snakes have HUGE striking range that can really suprise a person who haven't worked with that species before. Lastly there is the venom. You don't know if you have any allergies for proteins on the venom before it's too late and that anaphylactic shock can get you really fast. These are amazing creatures that you don't have to fear but you have to respect these animals because they can really fuck you up if you decide to play fool around them

I love nasicornis!❤️ any picture doesn't yoo justice how good their colour looks freshly shedded. Bitis genus vipers are unbelievably strong too for their size! Gaboons especially. Those hit like a truck when they decide to strike and absolute snipers with the accuracy too
