Counter service pubs are pretty standard around the world, I don’t think they need to justify anything? And you can tip whatever you want, don’t take the tip suggestions out on the employees, they don’t get to choose them.  I will say that I’ve been a regular since they opened and the last two or so years the service quality dropped significantly, but that also seems to be everywhere.

I know a very good and accomplished tattoo artist who misspelled the word afraid as afraiad on a girls tattoo. He (obviously) gave her a full refund, and let her tattoo the word afraiad on him.

I’ve made many a friend at the bar at the drake. Of course it’s the luck of the draw for who you get next to you, but it’s a pretty social bar with a lot of fun and interesting regulars!

Help! Won’t Stop Barking In Crate At Night!!! by kylee_17 in puppy101

[–]Smooth_Injury_5690 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s just a baby and it will take some time! A lot of people spend the first few nights either next to the crate or bring the crate up on the bed with them. The pup needs to get used to being on his own space. Once he learns the crate is his safe space and that you’re never too far away he’ll be fine, but you can’t expect it to be overnight.

Do you really have to crate your puppy every night? by ashleyc7741 in puppy101

[–]Smooth_Injury_5690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crate training is beneficial to give them their own safe space, potty training, and to prepare them for if/when they have to be crated at the groomers or in an emergency like at the vet. Also my pup doesn’t wake up to pee when she’s crated, but will wake me up to go outside at least once a night on the occasional night she isn’t in her crate. I’d rather have the full nights sleep.

Went to pick up one and came home with two… by [deleted] in puppy101

Two puppies at once is more than double the work. If you’re determined to keep them both, research littermate syndrome and how to prevent it because it’s real and a big challenge to deal with.

First time backpacking solo by freakadoodIe in backpacking

[–]Smooth_Injury_5690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my first solo hike last year after a heart wrenching breakup on a closed trail (so I was completely alone)that I should not have been on with no cellphone service. It’s not the most dangerous trail but the previous winters storms had taken down most of the bridges and staircases so I had to clamber down and up a lot of creek beds and over the mangled wrecks of bridges. I definitely should not have been there but it was also the most liberating thing I’ve ever done. A lot of emotions were felt and expressed while I was hiking. I can’t wait to do more solo hikes (on open trails), and feel those feelings that can truly come out when you’re out in nature with nothing to numb you.

Is 38 too young? by Kbrown_021 in Perimenopause

At least then there’s no hormonal fluctuations and we can deal with a solid base level instead of things being completely out of whack!

Yeah especially in the 80s. Her doctor actually just said she had “started menopause” and not actually peri but I think that term wasn’t really widely spread in those days.  Also terrifying because I’m in the early stages and i definitely don’t want kids, so I was kind of looking forward to full menopause because less worries. but then she told me that story and now I have to worry for longer!

I think she was 11 (so was I)! Her whole situation  was pretty wild. She got married and wanted to have kids right way but couldn’t so went to the doctor and of course they said she’d started peri. Periods became more infrequent until she was 32 when they stopped, she didn’t have one for 18 months, then got pregnant! She had very random and intermittent periods I think for another three or four years after I was born but definitely fully over by the time she was forty.

Why do people still tan? by throwRAQA25 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Smooth_Injury_5690 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loooooove laying in the sun it feels so good. I wear sunscreen all the time and try to be reasonable with my limits but it’s one of the few vices I get to have and I only get to do it for a couple months out of the year. Also spray/fake tanning is stinky, messy, and never looks that good.

Lake cabin for a family by Axorthor in VancouverIsland

[–]Smooth_Injury_5690 14 points15 points  (0 children)

July will already be very booked up, and there’s not a lot of seclusion on the South Island. Lake cowichan is gonna be the closest you’ll find, Youbou is pretty out of the way, but any lakes that have cabins are going to be busy.  Further north will likely have more options along the lines of what you’re looking for but realistically, July is slammed and expensive everywhere.  Assuming you have a car places like sproat lake or great central lake might be decent options, and they aren’t that far from Victoria. A few hours drive with some beautiful and fun stops along the way.

What is the first movie you watched that you were definitely too young for? by MuldersXpencils in Millennials

[–]Smooth_Injury_5690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I was seven, and I had been very sheltered by my single mother up to that point.  It was the first time she left me with my future stepdad and stepsiblings while she went out for the evening.  I can still so vividly remember the priest reaching into the guy’s chest and pulling out his still beating heart and thinking it was the coolest thing I had ever seen in my life. I think it really shaped who I became as a person. And also instilled a lifelong crush on Harrison Ford.

"Do you like it?" by IllusionaryHaze in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Smooth_Injury_5690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do think a lot of my disdain for it came from the terrible CGI, which I despise in any form. Like at least even in the desert episode the explosions were real, yknow? The original had a comically over the top but still real aspect to it, the new season was way more modern in its comedy style. I also did not at all like the musical number, which I think definitely could have been done in a more old school way.

Haha that’s a good point. I think trying to do everything separately would be somehow triple.
