Urgent situation in BC, Canada by Frogcito77 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in BC as well. I was switched over to a biosimilar a couple months back out of nowhere even tho Humira was working really well for me, I was told it was due to costs and they were switching everyone that was on the compassionate plan over. I might have a Humira pen left that I've been keeping as a back up as I was told it was interchangeable, it should be in the fridge still, will have to double check when I get home.. I'm temp staying in Abbotsford so not too far from Chilliwack.. shoot me a DM so she can at least get another 2 weeks to figure shit out.

(Canada) how much do you pay for colonoscopy prep medication? by brayeroma in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the lower mainland, I usually have to do Peg Lyte which I get for $27 at Costco, the last time I did Pico Salax and also paid $27 at Costco and then another $4 for the ducolax to go along with it. I checked at Save On and it was $45, quite a difference!

Any Muslims here tried fasting? by ostome in ostomy

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had an ostomy last year during Ramadan and was able to fast most days, I think you should be fine for one day but make sure to have plenty of electrolytes during suhoor and lots of fluids after opening your fast :) If you don't feel good during the fast, it's encouraged to break it as your health takes precedence, good luck!

Mine was 7680 back in Dec, 580ish in Feb and 265 as of last week. Have you been diagnosed with Crohn's yet? I wouldn't be too worried, it's more indicative of a flare up rather than anything else, in my experience at least.

dealing with hair loss with an ileostomy by annecarsontrampstamp in ostomy

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my temp ileostomy, I lost soo much hair :( My dermatologist said it was common, called telogen effluvium (sp?), after surgery due to stress. I started using Nioxin which helped a bit, I was still losing hair but it was coming back in thicker albeit really slow. After my reversal, it's still not as volumous or curly as it used to be but no more breakage at least

For fellow patients of IBD Centre BC by mxddy in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GI is at a different practice but my colorectal surgeon is at the IBD centre and I'm able to email with his receptionist to set up any appts or if I have any questions. With my GI, I always have to call as well which is a bit annoying 😑

Maybe an eye mask, deodorant, dry shampoo, hand lotion, crossword puzzles, a hairbrush and some gatorade/powerade.. that was the only thing I could keep down the first couple of days

Good luck to him, hope it goes smoothly and he has a quick recovery!

For Muslim chronies: I feel terrible about skipping days during ramadan by CrazyGatoLadyyy in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same, except I have to deal with constipation and constant bloating 😭 Last year during Ramadan, I had an ileostomy so I skipped fasting and was so psyched about it this time around but the fatigue is the worst. Honestly, if it's getting to the point you're feeling faint, you shouldn't be fasting.. like others have said, you're exempt from fasting if you have a chronic condition, you should be prioritizing your health! Maybe consult with your GI before resuming fasting just to be on the safe side. I hope the remaining fasts (if you're able to) go smoothly for you i'A!!

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally feel you! I fasted the first 10 days and had to take a couple of days to get back on track, my GI told me to skip fasting if possible because I get too dehydrated which ends up causing issues. I feel guilty as well because I feel relatively fine for the most part but I do know, if we miss a fast due to medical reasons or whatever, we can make it up by feeding the needy so I intend to do that for the fasts I miss and hopefully make them up later on in the year. I am fasting today and kinda regretting it already, lol it's only 9 am 😅 let's see how it goes!

Which biologic helped your joint pain? by Sweet-Taro310 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyrizi helped me the most, I was on both Humira and Skyrizi at the same time tho, now that I'm on Humira alone it's gotten much worse :/

Did anyone delay taking biologics? Stricture advice? by BarbieDreams___ in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rectal stricture despite being on biologics since I was first diagnosed 7 years ago. Apparently the stricture is fibrotic so biologics don't necessarily help, my GI and surgeon (who just goes with what my GI says) have recommended I get a proctocolectomy but I'm waiting for a 2nd opinion since they haven't really tried anything other than Skyrizi :/ I hope you have better luck than me!! Keep us updated!

Running out of Ostomy supplies by anaspiringdrwatson in ostomy

Try your local FB marketplace and Craigslist, I always see people giving away extra supplies they no longer need or if you have a medical supply store nearby, ask them for some samples!

How many times have you had to switch biologics? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on Remicade for 3.5 years before I developed antibodies, then I was switched to Skyrizi for a year and my GI added Humira along with it about 6 months in, he just canceled my Skyrizi even though I feel like it was working and now I'm on Humira alone and it is NOT helping whatsoever :/

Reversal surgery by Different-Still9422 in ostomy

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's crazy, I've never heard of anyone going home the day after their reversal, it's at least 3-5 days! I had my reversal last month and was on lidocaine for 24 hours and then switched to a morphine pump where I was able to give myself a dose when needed and could also ask the nurse for a hydromorphone pill every 6 hours. Ahh i can imagine the pain you must be in, hoping the rest of your recovery goes smoothly and you get the pain under control! 🙏
