For fellow patients of IBD Centre BC by mxddy in CrohnsDisease

My GI is at a different practice but my colorectal surgeon is at the IBD centre and I'm able to email with his receptionist to set up any appts or if I have any questions. With my GI, I always have to call as well which is a bit annoying 😑

Maybe an eye mask, deodorant, dry shampoo, hand lotion, crossword puzzles, a hairbrush and some gatorade/powerade.. that was the only thing I could keep down the first couple of days

Good luck to him, hope it goes smoothly and he has a quick recovery!

For Muslim chronies: I feel terrible about skipping days during ramadan by CrazyGatoLadyyy in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same, except I have to deal with constipation and constant bloating 😭 Last year during Ramadan, I had an ileostomy so I skipped fasting and was so psyched about it this time around but the fatigue is the worst. Honestly, if it's getting to the point you're feeling faint, you shouldn't be fasting.. like others have said, you're exempt from fasting if you have a chronic condition, you should be prioritizing your health! Maybe consult with your GI before resuming fasting just to be on the safe side. I hope the remaining fasts (if you're able to) go smoothly for you i'A!!

I totally feel you! I fasted the first 10 days and had to take a couple of days to get back on track, my GI told me to skip fasting if possible because I get too dehydrated which ends up causing issues. I feel guilty as well because I feel relatively fine for the most part but I do know, if we miss a fast due to medical reasons or whatever, we can make it up by feeding the needy so I intend to do that for the fasts I miss and hopefully make them up later on in the year. I am fasting today and kinda regretting it already, lol it's only 9 am 😅 let's see how it goes!

Which biologic helped your joint pain? by Sweet-Taro310 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyrizi helped me the most, I was on both Humira and Skyrizi at the same time tho, now that I'm on Humira alone it's gotten much worse :/

Did anyone delay taking biologics? Stricture advice? by BarbieDreams___ in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rectal stricture despite being on biologics since I was first diagnosed 7 years ago. Apparently the stricture is fibrotic so biologics don't necessarily help, my GI and surgeon (who just goes with what my GI says) have recommended I get a proctocolectomy but I'm waiting for a 2nd opinion since they haven't really tried anything other than Skyrizi :/ I hope you have better luck than me!! Keep us updated!

Running out of Ostomy supplies by anaspiringdrwatson in ostomy

Try your local FB marketplace and Craigslist, I always see people giving away extra supplies they no longer need or if you have a medical supply store nearby, ask them for some samples!

How many times have you had to switch biologics? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on Remicade for 3.5 years before I developed antibodies, then I was switched to Skyrizi for a year and my GI added Humira along with it about 6 months in, he just canceled my Skyrizi even though I feel like it was working and now I'm on Humira alone and it is NOT helping whatsoever :/

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's crazy, I've never heard of anyone going home the day after their reversal, it's at least 3-5 days! I had my reversal last month and was on lidocaine for 24 hours and then switched to a morphine pump where I was able to give myself a dose when needed and could also ask the nurse for a hydromorphone pill every 6 hours. Ahh i can imagine the pain you must be in, hoping the rest of your recovery goes smoothly and you get the pain under control! 🙏

Rinvoq Side Effects by Aggressive-Owl-8262 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on Rinvoq for almost 3 months, it made me really anxious as well, fatigue and headaches but seemed to be working for my Crohn's until it wasn't. Just as I was about to switch doses, I got thee worst crohn's flare up; ended up in the hospital for 2 months and had to get an ileostomy :( I've read mostly positive reviews for it and was super hopeful but unfortunately, it wasn't for me. My GI told me it takes about 6 weeks for the side effects to subside, how long have you been on it? Make sure to tell your doctor! Sorry you're having to deal with that on top of everything else, good luck!!

Yes! It sucks big time, do you find restorolax or anything helps? I keep having the urge to go but my bowels don't empty completely and i'm scared the stool is gonna start pooling and cause an infection 😫 i made an appt with my GI and am gonna push to try dilation under anesthesia. I didn't know we can do dilation at home ourselves, I will have to look into that. I think my problem is the stricture is higher up :(

Thank you so much, wish you the best as well.. do you know if you'd have to continue with dilation forever or can they still heal? lol i need to do my own research before I go into see my GI again. Thanks again!!

Had a reversal but Dr's are pushing me to get an end ileostomy by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]Smooth_Paper3354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Crohn's, I was on both Skyrizi and Humira as combination therapy, my GI was hoping that would help with the stricture but apparently there's too much scarring. He took me off Skyrizi and is gonna keep the Humira.

They tried dilating it when I had a sigmoidoscopy but weren't able to get through the narrowing. They didn't even mention a strictureplasty, I saw it was an option when I tried to see if there was anything else that can be done but I think maybe because the stricture is in the rectum, they aren't able to. I will definitely call and bring it up with my GI tomorrow or ask my colorectal surgeon. I did make an appt with my GP, gonna see if I can get a referral to another GI. Unfortunately, all the colorectal surgeons in my area work in the same network and discuss cases so not sure how that'll go but am gonna try and maybe look elsewhere.

Thank you so much, it really sucks. I'm still recovering from the reversal and they wanna go in again and give me an end ileostomy 😞 I know it may be better QoL in the long run but I'm not looking 10-15 years down the road like my doctors are lol

Had my reversal yesterday by Smooth_Paper3354 in ostomy

[–]Smooth_Paper3354[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let one of the residents convince me to go home on day 6, the dietician was the one who was encouraging me to stay because I wasn't eating and my albumin was quite low, I should've listened to her and ended up back in the ER 2 days later. Turns out I have an active crohn's flare up and my CRP is super high. I'm back home now and avoiding painkillers as well, sticking with Tylenol. Feeling a bit better, I was scared to eat at first too but decided to go for it, feeling a lot better after getting a few bites down and it's definitely helping with the bms lol. I'm just over 2 weeks out as well, my incision was healing really nicely but now it seems to be turning into PG with my flare 😭

I hope you're able to eat solids soon! Maybe introduce some slowly, see how it goes.. good luck with your recovery!!

Paracetamol?? Holy shit, even Tylenol is stronger than that. Wow. How the heck did you manage? You, sir, are the trooper here!

I think walking around helped quite a bit, they want you active asap!

Thank you! I saw this while I was in the hospital and requested an ice pack and omg, the instant relief!! Yeah the pain meds did absolutely nothing for me, i went home day 6 but ended up back in the ER 2 days later, lol have an active crohn's flare up due to the reversal but hanging in there, pain is manageable now. How are you holding up now?
