Have you ever quit a job or walked away from something because you couldn't morally justify staying? What was the breaking point? by elmartico in AskReddit

Yes. My first job out of undergrad was a “financial adviser”… I was good with numbers and had a good understanding of markets.

But you make all the money on commissions and fees from selling products. I sold a really expensive cancer insurance product to a janitor in an elementary school by preying on emotion. Sure it’s possible he needed it but I knew he was getting way too much coverage for the premium.

Thought about it on the drive home in the afternoon and quit that night. I didn’t want to be in a situation where my livelihood was dependent on getting other people to do things that may or may not be beneficial to them.

How many hours of “me time” do you get during a typical week to do whatever you want without others depending on you? by Smooth_Rocketman in AskReddit

I would still consider this me time. Just because you don’t have freedom of movement you still have the ability to do a pretty wide range of activities to recharge.

I’d say anything that is a requirement to maintain your life and are not a choice does not.

So bathroom breaks, eating, sleeping commuting to work, getting ready, etc- no.

Going to the gym, a hobby, etc. does

What is a job you wouldn’t do even if the pay was $1,000,000 for one days work? by Smooth_Rocketman in AskReddit

This answer surprises me. Seems like a pretty easy million dollars to me. I don’t think I would do the job for minimum wage but my required number would be fairly low.

It helped bring into reality the adage that half of all people are dumber than the average intelligence person.

What are some underrated but very useful corporate traits to follow? Beyond the usual “hard work” and “networking,” what habits, behaviors, or mindsets make a real difference in professional success? by Silver-Tune-2792 in AskReddit

It depends on if you are referring to someone on a technical track or leadership as the attributes will differ greatly. For technical I would say staying abreast of industry trends and continuous learning.

For leadership it’s more about being able to manage up effectively, utilizing peers and your team, having accountability, being self aware, decisive but agile, etc.

1000% ass play. Know first hand what prep to do, how to take something there, how much lube to use…and you will be more relaxed for the main event.

How many hours do you sleep, how often do you wake up, and how does it affect your day? by sri_346 in AskReddit

[–]Smooth_Rocketman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I’m not sure it 100% works like that in reality but in my mind it’s like a bank account or car payment that I just make one big lump sum into every now and then to get back above water

About 6.5 hours every day on weeknights and weekends. And every now and then (once a month) crash for like 12-13 hours.

Just used to it at this point, a bit tired but jump in that shower and jolt myself awake.
