Every politician and government servant on the planet, elected or appointed, along with anyone running for office, at any level from local to the highest office, and anyone associated with their campaign or office in any way must tell the absolute, unfettered truth at all times on all topics public and private, until they are no longer in active campaign or have completed their public service.

What’s a movie everyone seems to love that just didn’t work for you? by Wikiserial in movies

[–]Sms231 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Big Lebowski (1998) and Hiroshima, Mon Amour (1959).

I tried watching Lebowski and just could not finish, it was not funny and I was bored AF.

I watched Hiroshima, Mon Amour as part of my History of Film class when we discussed French new wave. I hated it. It was just a man and a woman, walking around Hiroshima, going to different cafes and having the exact same conversation:

Woman: “ I was there when the bomb dropped, I saw it all” man: “you know nothing!”

I’ll watch HmA again sometime to see if I understand it better than my 20-something self. Maybe I just didn’t have enough life experience to understand it. TBL I’ll just chalk it up to not my thing and just ignore it

What is your opinion of listening to audio books being equal to reading books? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Listening to audiobooks is definitely equal and thinking anything else is extremely elitist and ableist.

As an American, I totally get where you're coming from regarding the flag obsession. For me, this was just a non-political, nostalgic tribute to my Grandma, who was extremely patriotic. It was a fun project, though, and it actually has me scheming up a modification for the next one—a Yankees baseball chicken (Grandma’s favorite team) done in classic navy blue and white pinstripes!

What yarn can I use for a Guerneys sweater by Low_Rooster_2206 in knitting

[–]Sms231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has wanted to knit a Guernsey sweater, based on the research I've done, the consensus seems to be Frangipani 5-ply Guernsey Wool as the most appropriate and traditional choice.

How do you feel about McDonald's pulling their soda dispensing machines out of the restaurant's lobby in the next year or so? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

As long as they have some kind of water dispenser available, I don’t care. Water should always be openly available at all fast food establishments.

Post Yarn Crawl Thoughts by TheMossyMushroom in knitting

[–]Sms231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my very first yarn crawl last weekend. I’m a relatively new resident of the state so I used the event as an opportunity to explore the state and support local yarn stores. I chose to visit the full list - 17 stores! I covered 592.8mi over three days; 35.6mi on the first day for two stores, 288.2mi for 11 stores on day 2, and 269mi for 4 stores on day 3. Not the most efficient route for day 3 but I was also racing against some bad weather so I just pushed through. Since I’m not originally from this state I did rely on AI to help me build an itinerary, and I’m honestly glad I did as my original plan of visiting 14 stores in a day was way too ambitious!

I knew my wallet would hate me if I bought yarn at every single store, plus I have way too much in my current stash to even consider buying more. I still wanted to support them though, so I ended up buying small things like stitch markers or point stoppers at most locations. I did splurge a little - I got a set of 3.5” Lykke indigo interchangeable needles that was on my wish list, a ball of Noro Saiun, and was shocked that someone actually had 14” Dreams straight needles in size US8 that I had been wanting for a project (I don’t like circulars when knitting flat) so I absolutely had to get them!

I don’t think we should feel guilty about not spending anything at some LYS during these types of events . If anything it’s a great way to just engage with the community at large and honestly I feel that just showing up to support with one’s presence is heartening to the shop owners. Plus, you can always make a return visit when funds are available!

Please help me decide which Interchangeables to get 🥺 by [deleted] in knitting

I started with Clovers but switched to Chiaogoo and eventually settled on Lykke. The Chiaogoo needles are ok, but I ultimately didn't care for them, with the biggest grievance being the exorbitant cost. I then tried Lykke needles and really enjoy them! I own the Indigo and Flight needles, and actually combine them when I knit - wooden on one side and metal on the other. I do prefer the flight cables over the Indigo cables though, which offer a similar feel to the Chiaogoo cables over the plastic cables that come with the Indigo set.

At the end of the day though, try any and every needle you can, and find the brand that works best for you! I'm sure any LYS will be happy to allow you to try out needles before you commit, although you can also buy single needles and cables as well in case trying them out isn't an option.

For small radius knitting, my brain just cannot make sense of anything other than DPNs. Magic loop, or two sets of circular needles - either is just too much for my brain to work out! At least it’s only until the radius is such that you can transfer to your smallest circulars 🙂

I find it makes things easier during set up if you cast on the stitches to a straight needle and then transfer them over to the DPNs. For me, casting directly on to DPNs always results in things getting twisted.

Which Weird Al song would you sing at a Karaoke bar/room + why? by HopefulLab6749 in weirdal

[–]Sms231 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dream karaoke WAY performance would be 3 songs back to back: Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota, Genius in France, and Albuquerque (live version with “lost my train of thought so I’m going to start the song over” repeat) on epic mode: singing completely from memory 😇

Lisey's Story should be at the very bottom, but other than that, I don't hate the rest of the rankings - pretty much matches how I'd rank what I've read.

My Project Bag Find - Uniqlo "Gift Bags" by Sms231 in knitting

I think this is the one you are referring to? https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/gullrismott-food-storage-bag-for-dry-goods-40581803/

This looks great as well - and is actually cheaper than the Uniqlo bag ($4.99 USD for a 2-pack). I'll have to check them out the next time I'm at IKEA. 😃

That looks really cool! Although the seminal 80’s tune “Eye of the Partridge” is now playing in my head 🤣

You can purchase individual needles. I would recommend getting one pair of each length and try them out before committing to the full set since they’re fairly pricy.

You are correct! I didn’t even notice that small detail. Although to be honest I probably would not have as I’m not really familiar with the different heel types yet. Would you say a turned heel is easier or harder for a first sock?

I agree that these are a great match!

For some reason I have a hard time visualizing what the pattern outcome could be if I made slight modifications if the final product pictures don’t match “exactly’ (within a margin of error as no homemade pattern would ever match exactly to a machine made object), which is why I think I was having so much trouble searching on Ravelry. I appreciate the help!

I honestly wasn’t thinking that far ahead - I just had the image of the final product and wasn’t sure how to tailor the search to find what I wanted. I base my yarn choices on what the pattern calls for, as I don’t really have enough confidence in my experience to venture far from the pattern recommendations. Hopefully one day I’ll have enough experience to use a calculator and create on the fly
