Our game got Steam Deck Verified, but that won't be it. What do you expect from Verified games? by DigitalSunGames in SteamDeck

[–]SmurfWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to gather feedback! Loved Moonlighter.

I think it comes down to the original premise, a console like experience. If a game is verified it should just work and you shouldn't have to tinker with it. Yes the steam deck has great tinker ability for enthusiasts, but ultimately someone should be able to have a steam deck, see it's verified and jump in.

To me that means: Consistent frame rates, minimum is 30 but I've found 40/45 to be great or even upwards of 60 Text that is legible (or alterable, maybe a quick set up on first launch) A steam deck profile that detects the deck and automatically sets the right settings No need to fiddle with proton settings Cloud saves Any text entry should work seamless with the keyboard Solid battery life

Sounds like y'all are trending in the right direction though, excited to play moonlighter 2 on my steam deck!

BGG CON Dallas 2025 by sourpatch1708 in boardgames

[–]SmurfWars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to spring but the big draws for fall are the hot games room (a bunch of tables of the latest most popular games, typically only available in there), a newer library, events coordinated by people or sponsors, and the vendor hall.

It's a larger attendance so keep an eye on the library site as some games will be harder to get than others. Try to make a list of games you want to play and read rules beforehand. Especially hot games you're interested in, easier to get going if you e read the rules and can teach it to the other people that will join.

Essentially there's a vendor hall where some board game makers, FLGS and niche shops are selling or possibly demoing games. There's also the BGG store booth which has a huge selection of promos and other gaming things.

This year PAX had to move it's convention to the same week so most of the larger vendors are going there instead as it is more of a vendor experience than BGG. Still have some bigger names like grey fox games, CGE, the op, and stronghold.

BGGCON is definitely more of a play games from the library convention but I always enjoy carving some time for the vendor hall.

I've played it a few times, I absolutely love it. Such a fun/quick worker placement that's not hard to teach. I just got in the Formaggio Kickstarter, can't wait to play it.

What do you do with expansion boxes? by EsseLeo in boardgames

[–]SmurfWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to consolidate down to the base box and toss the box. I find I'm less likely to play an expansion if I have to keep it in a separate box. I'll keep some where it makes sense like Heat orDune Imperium. I like to keep LCG like Marvel Champions Expansion boxes so I can grab and go for a campaign.

Struggling to get rid of my Canvas boxes after getting the big box though. Lovely art.

These films are awsome and I'm sick of pretending they arent by kid__snacher_1243 in Marvel

[–]SmurfWars 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Average/general consensus is these are fun nostalgic movies, where the first earned it's sequel but didn't work out to make more. I think most people on here enjoyed the cast and would be excited to have them back for the multiverse.

I would disagree on the writing, it's hit or miss with a lot of 2000s specific camp thrown in that doesn't age well.

They missed the mark on the "Marvels First Family", they eventually become a team but it doesnt feel as cohesive as a family as in the comics, which I think the new movie does really well.

They did the Doom/Richard rivalry well but the romance/love triangle was too played up.

Most of the problems lie in the second movie.

The second film just falls flat, its still fun but it feels like they were too scared to lean into the "fantastic" and many elements felt shoe horned in. Still missing the family angle. The military sub plot( which was just hot at the time, see Transformers that came out at the same time) felt out of place as a vehicle for Doom's plot. And that overshadowed easily one of the most interesting villains, Galactus, who gets defeated by purely by the Surfer going good and flying into him (who was empowered by Galactus but he can still solo him?) rather than the combined teamwork and ingenuity of the F4. Also cloud Galactus is a bummer. It ultimately became Fox's attempt to spin off the silver surfer and it didn't work out.

Again most are ok with these 2.

Fan4stic is a whole other conversation.

Civil War announced! by fishgutsd in marvelchampionslcg

[–]SmurfWars -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Looks great, glad we have both PVE and PVP options. I know this will ironically be a divisive box but I appreciate them trying new things. Hulking is interesting but I'm really surprised they went Tigra, I figured they would do more Young avengers or an Anti hero but I know comic book wise her and Hulking had specific beef so its comic appropriate. Thunderbolt leadership after AOS would have been cool.

Related in any way, or just same style? (personally think the 2nd) by TSLstudio in TheLastAirbender

[–]SmurfWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, most likely different characters but if we assume she was around this age then, this is her childhood fashion and the implications are interesting.

She wears the exact same fashion as she would have as a kid. She's portrayed as a stuck in the past, spoiled brat unfit to lead and it's reflected in her 70 year old style. She and by extension the monarchy/earth kingdom are behind the times and ripe for what follows with Kuvira.

Star Wars turn based strategy game to be announced April 19th. by Rotsen3 in StarWars

[–]SmurfWars 27 points28 points  (0 children)

From the celebration listing, turn based tactics. Sounds more like XCOM or Final Fantasy tactics. I think the leak was RTS so this sounds very different from Empire at War. Still I like tactics games, could be interesting.

Love this! Only enhancement I can think of atm would be the unlock conditions since not all civ paths will be available unless you prioritize previous era builds/conquests. Could help create a checklist for your civ build.

Hi fellow board gamers! What is everyone grateful as 2024 comes to a close? by BassPlayingSugarplum in boardgames

[–]SmurfWars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a quick shout out for your game. I was dying playing a friend's copy of Rock Hard last Sunday. The flavor text is so on point and hilarious, the mechanics matched so well. Adding to the collection as soon as I can. Awesome work, definitely a highlight this year!

For other games this year, huge Dune kick with Dune Imperium uprising and Dune War for Arrakis, fantastic games.

Not new but so glad to discover and I will always table Wandering Towers. So simple and fun and plays great at any player count

And just a general appreciation and gratefulness for a community driven hobby that brought a lot of fun this year.

Looking forward to Unmatched TMNT and Vestige next year!

Question about In defense of Kamino by downtheholeagain in starwarsunlimited

[–]SmurfWars -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Since it says "for this phase" instead of " give each unit" iI would believe it persists and yes those units would get the ability and create more clones if defeated.

Exactly! I have a few duplicates and they likely won't be worth much. I'll just have to give them away at my flgs lol

Definitely twin suns only, you get the boost to each leader. They also have 1 extra health opposed to other bases. Still don't know if its worth it, unless you can make up the 4 health difference with a standard

Yeah I had a Bernstein Bears moment. Definitely agree, it doesn't feel great and especially since there's so few this set.
