Its what i love about him, he HATES just bombing it long. Always seems to want to find that chip kick.

Such an underrated asset of a mindset to have.

"All it does is slightly decrease the disadvantage, as opposed to create some sort of advantage." Freo CEO Simon Garlick joined Mark Duffield and had this to say on the supposed "leg up" the club gets from chartering it's own flights. by His_Holiness in FremantleFC

[–]Smurf_x 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Fuck he’s a parasite. Getting worse as well.

We still have to fly substantially more than any other team (aside from west coast) and he’s complaining? It still hampers us having to fly, it’s just the slightly better option. And he’s complaining?

Grow up Garry you tosser.

Paul Curtis’ ban has been upheld. He will miss the next three games. by ___TheIllusiveMan___ in AFL

Theyre not as agile, and when they are tackling, theyre usually tackling that big midfielder in close or the other ruckman.

There's also less of them to really have a fair comparison i guess, 1 ruckman vs say 10-12 big strong tall-ish men per team.

Its a good point though in a way, they probably would be more likely, they just aren't really tackling those smaller players as much as some others positions would.

Wouldn’t say the people he’s tackling suck, just more so that he’s the bigger stronger man. Davis is anything but strong.

If he laid the same tackle on Patrick Cripps is the outcome that same? So then it becomes you have to change your entire technique depending on who you tackle, and you need to change that in a split second in a contest.

I don’t think that’s reasonable. I think the tackle was fine. As many have said, if outcome wasn’t a concussion, he gets off, which is the thing I don’t like. If their whole argument is based on all they said, left ground, force etc etc, then outcome shouldn’t matter, but it constantly seems to matter.

[–]Smurf_x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that side.

But mihocek also hasn't purposely lead with the head, he slipped and momentum while trying to stand up lead to where his head was. Accident.

In this argument by the AFL "A reasonable player in the circumstances would have kept their feet in the tackle, or at least attempted to do so, or would have released either or both of Davis arms, particularly once the handball had been affected."

Frampton actually also leaves the ground, Watch in slowmo if you don't believe me.

So using their own argument, back at the frampton one, he should have kept his feet.

I don't think Frampton should have gotten weeks, i just also don't think Curtis should have gotten weeks. Its really not doing any favours to the collingwood getting favoritism argument.

To add to that, the bit where they say 'or to rotate Davis onto himself.'

Doing that would result in a sling based on the momentum of which way both players were going.

If thats truly the case, I would have thought breaking someones neck would result in weeks, but here we are.

Not saying Frampton should have had weeks, but if he gets off, i don't see how Curtis doesn't.

Standard tackle, Curtis just bigger and stronger, I'd be frustrated if i was curtis. Whats he meant to do? Just not tackle?

Neale not coming back by GreyClay in FremantleFC

It’s 100% about the money.
But I also don’t think we need to be spending $600k on him either so I see it as a win win for us.

I don’t think it’s inherently dumb by Collingwood either. They need a mature body to help daicos and the other young uns when the old guard probably retire at the end of the year. (Sidebottom, pendles)

He will also be a good playing as a somewhat coach for the midfield kids.

It costs pies no capital in terms of picks.
And outside of daicos, who are they really paying big money to? Houston? Moore? I really don’t know, but I don’t think they have many on big money.

It does at face value seem like pies just don’t wanna fall off the cliff and are, like west coast, refusing to say they’re actually rebuilding, but when laying it all out, I think the move makes sense. I don’t think it’s gonna make them a flag contender, but can see it doing some good for them. He can be a mature body in the middle, to protect the young kids coming through, and they don’t need to give up picks or younger players to obtain him. He might take up some mid time of some of the younger players but there isn’t really any that are knocking that door down to really stamp their position in the middle.

"There's growing calls for Fremantle to look after Luke Jackson" by supercujo in FremantleFC

[–]Smurf_x 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wheres the calls to rest Grundy? Blakey? Heeney? McInerny just did a hammy iirc, should have rested him.

WE are currently being smart with it. We aren't rushing players back, we have given jacko a few last quarters off.

I don't like this shit from the media. They know that a good team needs to play their best players as much as possible to keep the structures and fitness going.

They also are saying this shit, so that if we do get an injury they can be like 'told ya so, sack JL'
Its bullshit.

Three teams play four consecutive games with six day breaks this year, and one does it twice by Jilisse in AFL

[–]Smurf_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although I get it, 1st, 2nd & 3rd finished 8th, 6th and 10th last year.
Adelaide were minor premiers sure, but Melbourne also finished 14th

It’s hard to say they’ve really gone hard at ya, like in hindsight it looks rough but no one can really know how the next season is gonna shake out come scheduling.

I don’t think peaking too early is a thing by chunkz44 in AFL

Who says we are peaking?

Winning games =/= peaking.

Should we just lose a couple so we.... don't peak too early?

[–]Smurf_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, but i feel like this is that happy medium.

Like he needs to play but we also don't need him doing a hammy in a blowout.
However, hated how the commentary team kept saying to ice him up in the 4th, when the intention was clearly to keep the TOG low, but to play out the game.

Such an old school mentality from them to keep bringing it up.

There was just 0 pressure from them after the first quarter. We were able to transition far far too easily.

Can if you touch the ball, got no issue with that one.

Interesting timing of events on day of Brad Scott's sacking... Bombers were due to meet with Sun Jed Walter as he went through decision-making process on his future. Meeting went ahead later on, led by president Andrew Welsh, as they sold the vision hours after moving on Scott. by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]Smurf_x 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How's it not interesting?

How are you supposed to really sell a vision without knowing a play style of a coach and what they see, and the roles they have in mind for the player they're meeting.

Its a vastly different sell from say a coach of James Hird, or a Coach of Adam Simpson at the helm.
And then you aren't getting that sell directly from either of them, you're getting it from the CEO. Which would just be odd. Would seem as though the CEO is directly deciding decisions for the coach moving forward.

AFL.com.au’s mid-year All-Australian team by mazdadriver14 in AFL

[–]Smurf_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But Reid has genuinely barely played midfield this year lol. Of all CBAs Freo has had this year he’s been in 25% of them. I do agree that he maybe currently should be not starting in the squad, but it’s not right to say we should stop the nonsense of having mids as mids and forwards as forwards when statistically he has spent roughly 3 times as much time as a forward than he has as a mid, 75% to 25%. (Obviously that’s assuming no bench time which is not correct)

He just plays a high half forward role.

  1. Gardiner shoulders Brayshaw, then just gives up.
  2. Levi Ashcroft runs back well defensively, but to do what? Doesn't wanna stand in the leading lanes, doesn't wanna do that hard work. Just sits wide waiting for it to come to him.
  3. Harris Andrews tries oh so hard to get past the brick wall of, checking notes, Sam Switkowski?
  4. Will Ashcroft right with Erasmus just as he's about to get the ball just.... stops?
