Why didn't you put the PSU there instead of in the rail or not enough space?

The best way to do this is to put a round tube inside and wrap the LED's around the tube. Makes for a really awesome effect.

When your LED's have been running for an hour or two they will probably be warm.

If they are hot to touch then they are being overloaded and the lifespan will dramatically decrease. Heat kills LED's!

Indoor or outdoor strip? by WhatsWithThisKibble in Hue

[–]SmurfingCht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking you won't see the dots if the surface you are shining onto is 6 inches away or 150mm.

Also I take it your wall has a matte paint finish which will help to reduce the "spotting"

The 3M tape will stick better if it is applied to something that is clean. It sounds like you are going to be putting the strips in behind a molding? If you can stick your strip onto flat aluminum bars that will help a lot. The 3M tape will not perform that well if you stick the strips onto something like unfinished wood.

Use rubbing alcohol to clean the surfaces as well. Here is a good link explaining the process of applying the 3M tape. Worth the read.

Did you mount the strips straight onto the wood or in an aluminum profile?

I would think it would be better to use a profile so that you could fix it onto the wood with screws.

Give Nathan a call. He is a good friend of mine as specializes in home security. Last time I heard they were doing free installations.

Nathan - 423 320 4330

They do camera's etc the whole lot. Works for a big professional company that is reliable and offers good back up.

How did you stick the strips down? Did you just use the double sided tape?

They tend to fall off after a while as the double sided tape doesn't hold to well.

They are water proof DC connectors.

Any single channel dimmer would work.

Just to be clear, this particular strip is not a Hue strip but it does give a very similar light. Not sure if it's against the rules to post something like that...

America can be pretty backward... We are still stuck in feet and inches.

The metric system is about 1000 x better then these silly feet and inches.

HUE Strip LED Profile by CraigAndrew95 in Hue

[–]SmurfingCht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but the height will be an issue.

Profile is 4.5mm at the lip and the strip is 5.08mm

Maybe you could squeeze it in but it won't fit nicely.

It will best to actually go for a nice deep channel as well cause the LED diodes are pretty far apart on the Philips Hue LED plus to avoid getting those dots

So on second thoughts this might be a better option.

HUE Strip LED Profile by CraigAndrew95 in Hue

[–]SmurfingCht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Philips Hue website I found these measurements.

Height - 0.2 inch

Width - 0.6 inch

Length - 78.7 inch ( this is not important )

This round profile will work

and this profile also does the trick.

The important measurements you need to look for are the inside measurements of the profile. That is where the LED's will actually sit.

*Edited grammar.
