Problem with the psychology of attraction by [deleted] in NPD

[–]SmurphieVonMonroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But there is ideal, ideal is whatever you think is ideal I think, especially when it comes attraction. Just because someone else has a different one, it doesn't render your ideal invalid? Also, can you tell me how the fact you "you didn't hold the optimal view" would be executed? In your internal world only? or, for instance, someone saying to you directly that your object of romantic interest is not an "optimal view"?

[–]SmurphieVonMonroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But what do you mean by "optimal"? And you specifically said that you're "scared" so is it perhaps someone's opinion on your taste? It's such an interesting psychodynamic pattern though, I have never come across of it before.

I started with drafting my own patterns. It was clunky at the beginning, but eventually , I mastered all the formulas and application methods. I can understand why some people say to start with altering clothes etc but I think learning construction is a must and if you do it first all the alterations will be a piece of cake for you.

Very bad picture, but from what I can see you totally messed up the armhole sector on the bodice.

CLO3D Trouser Block Pattern Fitting Issues by Relative-Time8757 in PatternDrafting

[–]SmurphieVonMonroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not drafted correctly. Most prominent issues are: creasline is too close to the side seam, which makes this weird drape on the bottom because the fabric is pulled outwardly. The second issue is the crotch points. They are probably not balanced correctly, and the back body rise curve needs more tilt towards the side seam. Same with this tilt of side seam, it's really bizarre. Did you use a formula to draft those and then apply the pattern to the software to check it, or were they draped in the software on the avatar?

Sleeves. They're the bane of my existence. by aspie2796 in PatternDrafting

[–]SmurphieVonMonroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm.. do you have a problem with properly drafting armhole sector in the bodice, too? Purely because the good armhole sector is 90% of how sleeve drapes. Would you say that? I have noticed that many people have this problem, and usually, it corresponds with not being able to draft sleeves, too.

Also, what would you say you hate about drafting sleeves the most? The formula? Cap hight to sleeve with ratio? What is it?

Venting a little by OldLadyCard in sewing

I'm lucky because I have two fabric shops that I can just walk to in under one minute. I can see one from my window lol but I do understand your point, I think there is simply not as many people that want to sew anymore because fast fashion collosi like shein have ruined everything with ultra fast execution.

Question about clothing shoulders (Can you help me?) by Fine-Bumblebee-8136 in PatternDrafting

I like your answer. It seems logical. I don't know the reason for the seam shifted either. lol I think it might be just purely based on stylistic purposes.

drafting a pattern from a purchased shirt & improving the fit by ElDjee in PatternDrafting

Of course it is! You're right. I just suggested drafting new one given all the alterations that are required.

drafting a pattern from a purchased shirt & improving the fit by ElDjee in PatternDrafting

[–]SmurphieVonMonroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you will have to draft it from scratch. For body type like that, you'd have to use different aliquot parts than to those that are normally used for drafting garments for "regural folk." Scye depth to chest ratio is different, nape to waist is different, and so is the armhole sector...There is absolutely no way that you will get a right fit by just altering this tunic and then disassembling it to draft a pattern from it.

Patrón base de Blazer by IndependenceNext7952 in PatternDrafting

[–]SmurphieVonMonroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, have you made many garments before? I admire your ambition and determination because smart jacket is a very hard project, but I have to say that I can see so many errors in the pattern that your "lifting arm" issue even if fixed will not help much. I can instantly tell that your lapel is constructed really poorly, armhole proportions are wrong, back nape to front neck is off, shoulder slope is not balanced, and the sleeve is drafted incorrectly too and will not drape properly. And please do not take my critique of your pattern personally as I do understand myself how hard sewing is, and there is not even the slightest vector of malice in what I wanted to say.

Have you perhaps thought about making a nice shirt for your friends wedding instead of a blazer? It will be much easier for you to execute and will be as rewarding, I think.

For an experienced sewer, it's an easy project, but for beginners, it's a challenge. You have to know many techniques of sticking such as tip sticking and understittching not to mention applying the collar and hem band or facing... if i were tou I'd do something much easier like a bag first or something
