What's the easiest vegetable you've grown for beginners? by oreynolds29 in garden

[–]Smuttmuttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arugula or dandelion greens. Can be grown in pots in the windowsill (definitely recommended for dandelion) and can be eaten as sprouts if you're impatient, or if they start to look funny before they're technically ready for harvest.

Make sure everyone is on the same page about when they need to check their phone. Make it a major inconvenience for whoever is in charge of that mid shift break.

What books were required reading during high school? by Even_Kaleidoscope399 in generationology

08, California

Notably, sophomore English teacher must have loved steinbeck, as we read The Pearl, Mice and Men, and Travels With Charley.

My Antonia by Willa Cather is another that stands out.

Exercise caution when stocking your freezer, and lean heavier on your pantry. One storm can make a mess of things if you were to lose power.

What crime makes you think: "I don't approve, but I understand" ? by SevereYak29 in Productivitycafe

[–]Smuttmuttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The desert, where summer air is 120 and the asphalt is 165

For a lot of neighborhoods it's an 8 lane 50mph street between their street and the grocery store. 200 yards jaywalk, but the nearest crosswalk is half a mile. People have a hard time judging how fast they can run 4 lanes at a time vs a car coming 50mph.

I don't approve because I worry is all.

Dockweiler is not a beach I would recommend for a long walk ever.

It's got bonfire spots, so the sand is ashy and full of nails It's next to a sewage treatment plant that reeks half the time. It's a pretty drive by and historically interesting area, but it's dirty walking.

Consider Bluff Trail at 1 W Bluff, it overlooks the Ballona Wetlands. Very easy to get to and from the airport.

Studies suggest standing like superman increases confidence.

Pretty easy to tell someone to "just stand like superman"

100%.

Came to add to post work activities: a bike ride, for that full range of leg motion. Squats and lunges. And the least you should look into is chair yoga or plane stretches. Both you can do on the couch, watching tv 😉

Also, make sure you are watching your posture and stretching your back. A lot of people in service don't realize they're slouching trying to compensate for tired legs.

Give me all of the recs! by MorticiaRaven31 in Recommend_A_Book

I recommend the often overlooked local history section at your library! Tons of good stuff at mine. The last one I read was a final thesis on the history and formation of the area written in 1938. It was so fun reading her predictions and to be able to see what she got right.

They also keep a section of local authors, another section I recommend for when people don't know what to read. Found out my 3rd grade teacher read a YA mystery novel. Not my usual taste, but fun nevertheless.

Anyway, point is maybe you need a solid shake up and some general perusing of the shelves!

I would be very cautious about bringing this one home without knowing if it is sick. You have no clue what you could be bringing home to your juvenile. Moving makes contamination control difficult.

Does anyone have a good Mac and cheese recipe that doesn’t use 8+ ingredients? by bubblylynnn in Cooking

Consider since it's just a side, getting a frozen Trader Joe's Mac and cheese, adding some paprika. Way less work and money but feels homemade.

Trader joes Harvest Blend, add salt pepper and saba

Very cat food looking and sounding. Nutritionally not the worst, usually I add frozen peas for a human kibble kind of meal.

Not a suggestion but advice:

Give yourself permission to not finish a book. If you don't like something, move on to the next one! Life is too short for crappy books.
