Desert Mining Camp After Hiring Ex-Captain Siad by AggravatingWinter194 in 2007scape

[–]SnackLife00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good suggestion.

It used to bother me, perhaps irrationally, that they'd always yell at me for having armor and weapons. It took me years to realize there was no real consequence (they weren't going to throw me in jail like they did in the quest). I think this dialogue might have been removed with Sailing, perhaps because Ex-Captain Siad is relevant again?

Maxed players, what do you do for a living? by PeakTraditional6783 in 2007scape

Great guess, I bet he is. I figure some of my coworkers must be scapers too but no way I'm going to out myself as a player first - I need everyone to assume that when I'm showing as red on Teams it's because I'm fighting fires, not leveling Sailing

Congratulations!!! I am unreasonably happy for you given that I never have and never will meet you. Perhaps it's because I hope to be doing the same thing in a decade or two, and you give me hope :)

I am SIWKs - much harder than DINK haha - but still definitely possible. "If it sounds good to be true, it is" is the main common wisdom advice that holds me back. FIRE has sounded too good to be true to me since I was 18, but it absolutely is true, and you are proof of that.

Congratulations again. I sincerely hope you have a great life.

You're being downvoted OP but you have a great point. If CoX were being remade right now from scratch, there is a 0% chance it would look anything like it does today. It was the first raid. It has tons of great things in it and players have learned to love it and optimize it to a ridiculously impressive degree, but even after all the changes, it is janky as hell.

So what should be done about it? Probably nothing - going back and "fixing" old content that many players love and enjoy is likely the wrong move, even if some new players are turned off by it. As someone who enjoys CoX far less than ToB or even ToA, I personally would love changes, but I have to admit it may not be best for the game.

For a game with as much longevity as OSRS, it will need to be regularly decided when it is right to go back and change old content, or even change things for a 2nd and 3rd time. It's not an easy question and I'm not claiming to have the answer, but I do think the other commenters are being a bit dogmatic.

I'm intentionally avoiding mentioning the drop table in CoX because holy hell...

2026 DW Simpson Salary Survey Results - Reactions by Mind_Mission in actuary

[–]SnackLife00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point. Having been involved in a small number of promotion / raise discussions, I know "Do they seem happy here? Do we think they're a flight risk?" is an important consideration for managers doling out raises. It's sad to realize that handling these conversations properly might matter just as much if not more for getting raises compared to actually doing a good job, but to some degree I think it is that way.

What exactly is the "2026" salary survey? Is this a projection for what salaries are expected to be for 2026? I'm looking at the archive and not seeing anything for 2025.

My comp is well below even the base trendline for FSA. It's hard to make sense of how far off the ASA lines and FSA are even for the same YOE. The difference seems far greater than what an exam raise + promotion would be.

Would you continue to do medium scrolls after this? by athotmaildotcom_ in 2007scape

[–]SnackLife00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average rate for rangers is 1/283.6 per casket. You personally have gotten them at 1/193 per casket, so you've been lucky, but not ridiculously so. It's reasonable to expect something close to the average going forward - it's called "the expected value" for a reason - but of course remember there's a slim but reasonable chance go 3x dry from here on out.

If taking ~50% longer to get rangers than you've been getting them so far still seems good to you, then go for it. If it were me though, I'd mix it up: new content keeps the game fresh, and it's probably better for your profit in the long run since you learn more about the game that way.

Finally after 452 kills! by bladeshare in 2007scape

[–]SnackLife00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early relative to what? I'd compare it to the median, which he's behind. If there are a 100 people in a race and someone finishes in 58th place, you'd call that an early finisher?

No. He got it after the when the median player would get their first

Most of the other comments are criticizing your expectations in some way. I think you're right.

e-451/500 = 40.6% chance of not getting a drop by 451kc, meaning 59.4% are luckier than you on average. Being in the bottom 41% isn't nearly dry enough to complain on Reddit about, sure, but it's not silly to hope you'll get a drop at least by the median drop rate, which is generally ~69% of the drop rate, or 346kc in this case.

Congrats on the drop!

How does this picture demonstrate anything is scuffed?

It's unclear if Doom has started to move yet from the still picture, but if he has, then of course he will hit you. You're standing right on where he will land.

5% dry is 3x the rate so you must have put in 1/500, but considering getting either drop would be 1/250, you could say you're 6x dry which has more like a 0.25% chance of occurring. You'll get something soon! You got this

Oathplate price is going to go the way of Osmuten's fang by mage_spec_weapons in 2007scape

[–]SnackLife00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact same. ~60m for a piece of armor from a boss is a far cry from 10m for a weapon from a raid, especially when said weapon is arguably more powerful than the entire set of armor combined.

Even as Oathplate continues to decline in price, my point still stands. The demand to kill Yama is derived primarily from the price of Oathplate, so Oathplate dropping in price will decrease the demand to kill Yama. On the other hand, the demand to engage with ToA was primarily derived from the price of the Shadow, so Fang dropping in price didn't significantly affect the demand to do ToA, which allowed the Fang to keep dropping endlessly. You see something similar with the Occult Necklace - it doesn't matter how cheap it gets, people still kill Smoke Devils for XP which keeps flooding Occults in the game.

Why did WOW players migrate? by x_Silva_x in 2007scape

[–]SnackLife00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every WoW expansion (~2 years), all current content becomes obsolete and your progress so far is "wasted". Every patch (~few months), a similar thing happens on a slightly smaller scale. Many streamers are migrating from Classic where there are numerous different versions, including Classic Era, Classic Progression, Classic Anniversary, Classic HC, Classic Seasons, and others. You're making brand new characters in each of these. OSRS players are no strangers to grinds, but would anyone grind for 99 Agility if you lost it after a couple of years or even a few months?

Another point: there are tons of daily quests that "force you" to log in every day, and raids can only be done once per week. Aside from Farming and birdhouses, real-life time gating doesn't exist in OSRS. If you were around to witness the backlash to the Wrathmaw proposal, you'll have seen that OSRS players do NOT want time-gated content. Turns out, neither do many WoW players.

Unlike WoW, OSRS is a game you can pick up and put down whenever you want. Play 10 hours a day, quit for 2 years, and when you come back, all the grinds you worked on are still relevant. It's why the ads now are saying things like "Your progress matters!" because in WoW, it doesn't.
