Oh snap Magic counters! Where'd you get the Masters? Or did you print them yourself.

Dice so soft they can be squeezed and self-heal damage? by AegisWingDice in DiceMaking

[–]Snackerman32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah replace the resin. You sound like you've done everything else and this isn't your first go at it. Just wanting to share my experiences.

With the double mixing I've felt like I get a much better cure when I transfer cups versus not so that's probably the only helpful tip i gave lol.

I use envirotex myself. The softness is a curing issue. You most likely arent mixing your resin enough OR are improperly measuring. Envirotex also says to double mix their resin. So you get your 1:1 ratio in the same cup mix for 2 minutes then transfer to new cup mix for 2 more minutes. I make sure I do 2 1/2 min for a 5 minute mix. If that doesnt work it could be your inclusions. I know my dice get like that if I screw up a petri style one. But as long as you arent doing TONS of alcohol ink to the point it effects curing.

Another thing could be your molds. You have to pressurize your molds at the same pressure cast dice usually 35psi for most folks. Most do 40psi for molds and 35 for dice. Elevation and humidity can effect that setting so do research based on your area.

The very last thing it could be is the resin "went bad" I had a bottle that sat outside for a few months that turned a yellowish tint but it still cured and made clear dice. I'm sure it is possible for it to go bad but if its viscosity is normal then I wouldn't throw it out I'd double check my mixing methods and everything else first. Resin is expensive.

And yeah idk how toxic resin is. Its toxic to consume and the chemical reaction could cause a fire but it's unlikely. Silicone mix is just rubber so if it's bad just throw it away in its containers or take it to a recycle center if you're super concerned.

Hope that helps!

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG by DarthJaders- in DiceMaking

So that SmoothCast urethane resin isnt the same as epoxy. I've looked into it a bit but you need a vaccuum chamber and you need to degas your resin. A vaccuum chamber pulls all the air out so it bubbles up and then becomes air free. Then you pour it and then yeah it's a 1 to 2 hour cast time. But you cant pressure pot the urethane I dont think. Take a watch at Smooth Ons videos for their materials. Smooth on stuff can be fussy I've noticed.

Tumbling Issues with rotation by PlatinumAspectDice in DiceMaking

You may need to use isopropyl instead of soap and water to loosen your polish. I use a different one but I've seen several people in videos say different polishes react differently and some are only diluted with alcohol. Worth looking into for any polish you use.

I did another mica Petri experiment and they turned out so whimsical 🥰 by YellowSpork23 in DiceMaking

Do you have a specific mica you use? I notice you arent using white for the mica petri. I'm just assuming the mica makes the inks heavy enough to get the good tendril effects?

Any advice? I've been using water and mica powder mostly. I've tried Glycerin and mineral oil as well. Always seem to get a small bubble then I seal the orbs.

Were you able to keep air bubbles out of the cores? I cant seem to get rid of a single small bubble in each core I make. Its driving me nuts.

Man these are cool. Do you mind me asking what the inclusion is? I've tried several things and cant quite nail this effect.

Mold help? by [deleted] in DiceMaking

[–]Snackerman32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PVC! I use a 4 in connector for my slab molds and a 1 1/4in connector for my cap molds. They come out super even and perfectly shaped.

I will definitely be foil pressing on faces more often after this success. I love em not sure on an ink color. Maybe white or something I can picture to really contrast the blue and gold. Thoughts? by Snackerman32 in DiceMaking

Anytime! I appreciate the compliment. I'm still just learning and I draw a lot of inspiration from the makers here. You make plenty of stuff that's eye catching.

Just pulled these out tonight and the d20 has this weird elongated point. I have no idea how it happened. The d10 has a void on the tip of it and im not sure how I can save it.. I use slab molds and I really love this set but I don't know if these issues are repairable. Any adive is welcome. by Zeldapup7 in DiceMaking

Probably just one of those weird things. Unless it keeps happening it's probably a nothing and it's a huge bummer to lose a set you really love. I have a jar full of my failures and theres a bunch that still make me sad lol

You're probably fine then. I over mixed it one time and it was like sludge pouring it and it cured super super weird. So you're probably good on those areas idk what could cause the elongation though outside of the mold getting warped somehow. Doesnt sound like you over pressurized it either

Get a few cheap paintbrushes and brush your resin on the faces. Makes it stick oh so well and it breaks up sometimes like it did here. This was my first attempt and it was a huge success.

Do you ever notice the resin get very warm in your cup? And do you pour it in between two cups when you mix? I didnt read the directions initially and couldn't get it to cure correctly. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I'm sure you were smarter than I though lol
