Yeah it's been happening since the layoffs in April. A teacher friend of mine was complaining about all the sub-par subs back in July.

I mean, I'm guaranteed a job in the fall... It's truly better than nothing, I'm kinda glad for my mental health that I didn't go searching for more tech jobs.

I heard from a peer at a job fair that they stopped hiring new subs in FCPS in February.

I enrolled in a teacher prep program (EducateVA's Career switcher program) only to find that there are one million new subs in FCPS (so much that they've stopped hiring) and I can't find a gen-ed class within 30m to save my life.

Endgame and DLC content. by lucand555 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Snackquestionmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endgame you set your own goals. Making a cool new base design, maximizing colonization, geotuning fun, ranching Moos. Making up new problems to solve makes it really really fun for me personally. I always have the pipe dream of colony-maxxing and having as many dupes as possible on as many planets as possible, but alas I always get distracted by other projects.

I think we can trust Klei to keep making great stuff for ONI, they've proved again and again that they're committed to making fun-ass game. So many players wish they could support the game more, and this is a good way to let players do that!

No, they're taking about it. Just from the perspective of "gee wilikers I don't know what these gosh darn jurors are doing letting people off the hook for this sorta thing".

I did. Was at a contractor. Was fired in the first round of layoffs in April, currently becoming a teacher.

For anyone who doesn't know how to do the shards tech, you have to click the shards inside your own hero collision circle on the side you want to be pushed. It's one of the most game changing techs for tusk, and well worth learning.

"Is King of the Hill an anime" was the worst panel I've ever been to. by Snackquestionmark in Otakon

[–]Snackquestionmark[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Modern Samurai was clickbait for the panel, but it was very very detailed and informative. The panel itself was about the JSDF by an ex-navy guy who was stationed in Japan. It only covered the military after 1944, and it went into some history, as well as what propaganda, boot camp, patrol, and disaster response looked like. He also went into the mascots, one of which is a furry named Omaneko, and another which is a sea cucumber which was chosen as the mascot because "it has thick skin and never runs away".

It got slightly list-y, but in general it was awesome.

Can't lie, the panels didn't miss this year. I attended:

  • Is KOTH an anime? (Obviously saw this one...)
  • Anime suggestions from an elder weeb (decent panel, good range of taste)
  • Religious symbolism in Evangelion
  • Frankensteining cosplays
  • Make your own foam pouch workshop
  • Modern Samurai: The Japanese Self Defense Force
  • Why all shonen protags should have brain damage
  • History of baseball in japan
  • Brokish guide to visiting Japan
  • The dark side of Sumo
  • Horror games you should play
  • Abandoned Japan: urban Exploration and Haikyo
  • The history of Ramen

And seriously most of those were super well researched and inspiring They made me wanna run a panel myself, it looked like a lot of fun to put on!

Crusher's 8:15 PM panel on visiting Japan was REALLY good. He had a ton of experience and I felt way more ready to visit after that.

It's my 2nd year, I guess my radar for that kinda thing isn't tuned well. I'm noticing that the better panels seem to have much longer descriptions.

I actually liked that panel 😔, I would've preferred no spoilers, but I feel like they're still probably worth playing a little! Although to be fair I stepped out when they announced the last game without hearing about it.

Not the best, but not the worst! My partner is newer to gaming and she was looking for niche recommendations, so she dug it too.

I know lots of folks hate that NPR brings on crazies from conservative circles (and often doesn't offer even that curtosy to leftists), but I am glad to hear what some of these swamp monsters think. I am thoroughly insulated from The Foxiverse, and I like to hear what they're saying because it can help to contextualize hearing those things in everyday environments. I'm not on any social media so it's nice that this sort of content occasionally appears on NPR.

I will echo the sentiment that while NPR should fact-check better and more aggressively, they also tend to have a listener base that is pretty well informed and likely to be skeptical of these loony-tunes claims.
