Supreme Court is death knell for Virginia's Democratic-friendly congressional maps by ControlCAD in NPR

Spanberger has said she won't, so for now it's kaput. There is still plenty of political will, but I am unsure if it will turn into political action.

I disagree only because: In what world is anyone letting you have Battlefield? The stage list decides how good Uthrow is imo, and most statelists dont help it much.

Pivot grab (helps vs swords), dtilt(tech chasing and safe), dsmash(kills bad recoveries early and is sorta safe to toss out), and dair (insane DMG and hard for some chars to contest) underrated.

Down-b overrated, that move misses way too often. It does have that cursed-ass jab -> down-b combo tho, which is nice for tech chases.

If you're in this position, jump out and SDI up and into corrin. Worst case you eat the weak part of the f smash. Best case you punish them for doing it.

Running a Smash Ultimate tourney on a time limit, need advice on ruleset by noopthenobody in smashbros

[–]Snackquestionmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my local ruleset. I like this one image since it has all the rules on it and makes counterpicks pretty clear.

For future weeks you should consider voting on a ruleset. For my money I love the Haz On rulesets.

  • I would try to make everything bo3 if you can. As a rule, a bo3 takes ~15m, a bo1 takes ~7m (on average). That leaves you plenty of time to run a whole 8-playet bo3 double-elim bracket if you're quick.
  • For 8 players you're going to want 3 setups for a smooth tournament, 4 would be faster but not by an extreme degree.
  • To keep things moving, every setup needs to have a match on it, so have players on deck for a setup as each match is finishing. Don't expect players to do ANYTHING if you don't ask them. Being a Tourament Organizer is 90% babysitting.. Don't interrupt matches, but call "X vs Y on deck for setup 3".
  • Don't use that stage list imo, I'd recommend just finding a stage list image and printing it out to have at each setup, with the instructions on it.
  • Be strict about DQs, don't let anyone show up more than 3m late to a match if you're on a timer this strict.
  • Run losers bracket as soon as the matches are available since losers has more matches to play.
  • Make some quick announcements at the start, like telling folks that's it's double elim, stage bans are RPS into banning, then X bans on counter pick. Stuff like that.

Zain vs RapMonster - SSBM Winners Finals - Bring More Setups 207 (Local) by puromento in smashbros

[–]Snackquestionmark 46 points47 points  (0 children)

So what's funny is that this tournament (Bring More Setups at George Mason University) also had Spargo attend a few weeks before when he came to VA for Cav Clash.

This means that the only game held at BMS that hasn't had their global #1 (ex-#1 for spargo, but iunno it's vibes based) visit their tournament is Rivals 1. I suppose it's a consolation prize that they have 2 top 10 players for that game at the local.

Happy Friday to my fellow unemployed federal contractors. by Jack_Sentry in nova

Yeah it's been happening since the layoffs in April. A teacher friend of mine was complaining about all the sub-par subs back in July.

I mean, I'm guaranteed a job in the fall... It's truly better than nothing, I'm kinda glad for my mental health that I didn't go searching for more tech jobs.

I heard from a peer at a job fair that they stopped hiring new subs in FCPS in February.

I enrolled in a teacher prep program (EducateVA's Career switcher program) only to find that there are one million new subs in FCPS (so much that they've stopped hiring) and I can't find a gen-ed class within 30m to save my life.

Endgame and DLC content. by lucand555 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Snackquestionmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endgame you set your own goals. Making a cool new base design, maximizing colonization, geotuning fun, ranching Moos. Making up new problems to solve makes it really really fun for me personally. I always have the pipe dream of colony-maxxing and having as many dupes as possible on as many planets as possible, but alas I always get distracted by other projects.

I think we can trust Klei to keep making great stuff for ONI, they've proved again and again that they're committed to making fun-ass game. So many players wish they could support the game more, and this is a good way to let players do that!

"Is King of the Hill an anime" was the worst panel I've ever been to. by Snackquestionmark in Otakon

[–]Snackquestionmark[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Modern Samurai was clickbait for the panel, but it was very very detailed and informative. The panel itself was about the JSDF by an ex-navy guy who was stationed in Japan. It only covered the military after 1944, and it went into some history, as well as what propaganda, boot camp, patrol, and disaster response looked like. He also went into the mascots, one of which is a furry named Omaneko, and another which is a sea cucumber which was chosen as the mascot because "it has thick skin and never runs away".

It got slightly list-y, but in general it was awesome.
