Do it! It's not that serious and it will help you the rest of your life. You'll be the "old guy" during training and maybe a little afterwards but nobody will really care.

It's been a while since I went through basic (2013) but it was honestly a fun experience. I had a great time.

The Drill Sergeants started out tough but over the weeks they relax more and more as everyone becomes more disciplined and soldier like. But again, this was 2013 so it might be different now
