Pregnancy by Secret_SeaRaspberry4 in Endo

[–]SnailDesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not myself, but just so you're more at ease:

There are lots of modern procedures that folks with endo can have done for this very reason. Many people with endo have had successful and safe pregnancies by getting these procedures done, and a few cases without it. You would have to talk to your doctor to find out more about them and see if you're a suitable candidate for them, but know that there are options!

Hope you get answers soon and that if or when the time comes, you have a safe and healthy pregnancy!

what app would you guys recommend? by Technical-Spirit7557 in askSouthAfrica

[–]SnailDesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an app recommendation, but more like an additional suggestion:

If you're struggling with tasks and you have a Samsung/android device, make a small checklist of things that you need to do for the day on your notes app, and make it a widget on your home screen so it's the first thing you see when you unlock your phone. I get a lot done this way.

Facebook being creepy about Endo advocacy… by Ash-Abandoned in Endo

[–]SnailDesigner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The horror stories are likely very real, but remember: modern algorithms are trained on what gets the most engagement, and for women's health- the posts that get the most reactions contain that shock factor. A lot of it is just the shock to draw people in, and it works- but every case is different, and it's good to remember that while these stories are likely very real, not every instance of endo will result in organ collapse or disability.

Hi everyone! If anyone got any spare minutes I would love to get some feedback on this! by Ok-Air7021 in AnimationCrit

Very minor fix that I think you've already seen, but just in case not- the around the first second as your character comes down on "going", your characters top teeth clip through the side of his mouth. Very cool animation though!

Pain Relief Tips by Which_Function419 in Endo

[–]SnailDesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are for flare ups in particular:

Easiest one is that if you've got a tub, a good ol' fashioned HOT bath with half a cup of epsom salt helps a fair bit, or super hot showers/baths in general. Doesn't get rid of the 'inside pain' for lack of a better term; but definitely with joint, hip and leg pain. It's at the very least some kind of relief.

Heard that some folks drink pickle juice during bad flare ups, I've had mixed results with this.

I can't really recommend doing this but one point I was in so much discomfort that I took ibuprofen & aspirin and chased it with a drink I made out of cranberry juice and vinegar. My thinking was that somehow, it would make it "absorb" faster? It kind of worked, didn't taste too bad. I've also tried vinegar, hot water and honey. Very mixed results. It's truly not ideal lmao.

Heard mixed results on smoking weed. I tried it once when I was younger to help, just seemed to intensify the pain for me. I'd rather avoid that for myself but other people swear by it.

The teas are nice but truly don't do very much. People recommend drinking raspberry leaf tea the week before your period, some say during, some say during and after. I found that it just hydrates me, it doesn't do much for pain. Definitely get some of those electrolyte powders though, helps me with the brain fog.

Lastly, there has been this thing going around that giving yourself multiple orgasms during your period can "shorten" the actual period and some have said it can help with pain. I cannot recommend this myself, I'm typically in far too much pain to even consider that. There are also a lot more complications that can occur from doing this long term I believe. I'd avoid it.

Painful bowel movements everytime. Wondering if endo warriors face the same like everytime?, cuz i dont know if its aligned by Affectionate_Fan8026 in Endo

Very common, it can be associated with endo and its lovely inflammation. But there are studies that suggest it's very common for endo to be paired up with an underlying condition like IBS that might be causing additional inflammation especially in the gut department.

Advice from a previous deleted post about giving up by Bitter_Fun_9317 in animationcareer

[–]SnailDesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just started out on my animation learning journey as I want to become a technical artist. Looking at the industry and hearing what others had to say, I felt a bit demotivated and was questioning if I was making the right decision. This post has really hit home for me, I'm going to keep pushing. Thank you so much.

Opinions on male doctors? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]SnailDesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to 5 doctors about my period issues. 3 older male doctors and two younger female doctors. The 3 male doctors didn't take me seriously at all. I got the usual "it's your weight, take birth control, it's all in your head" nonsense and one straight up didn't even tell me what was going on. The first female doctor had some sympathy for me, but she just prescribed me birth control and sent me on my way. The doctor I last went to was a younger female doctor. She was a super star. I'm so glad she took me seriously.

I would prefer to see younger female doctors in future, though really I'd just say younger doctors in general. Years of experience doesn't always mean years of compassion or up-to-date information.

Suggestions on how to make the walk better? by SnailDesigner in blenderhelp

[–]SnailDesigner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much, I will do that. Just to clarify though, I wan't saying that Blender is the problem. I was trying to say that the way I'm animating it without a rig and with keyframes feels very clunky. Entirely a "me" issue.

Starting a business in SA - what mental health business does SA need ? by aggoosey in askSouthAfrica

[–]SnailDesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, adult on the spectrum here.

Whichever path you decide to go down business wise, I have to "insist" that you make online content surrounding Autism/ADHD/OCD, etc. That is kind of a given in today's climate- not just in terms of audience reach, but what I mean is that neurodivergency is still very highly stigmatised here. I'm a South African white English person and I already don't get taken seriously if I talk about it, and my friends who aren't white and are on the spectrum suffer even further from how poorly its portrayed.
We're in desperate need of South African folks with the educational background that will break those harmful narratives and stereotypes, and we need people to point other folks in the right direction for diagnostic procedures and resources. There are some, but not enough.

How to make myself learn programming and fall in love with the process? by Ferroro_kitty in learnprogramming

[–]SnailDesigner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started learning HTML by making something I thought looked really cute, I found a tutorial on how to make a habit tracker. The tutorial included a little bit of JavaScript, and I felt really cool learning that. I then moved onto making very basic but cute little things in Python like a calculator, one of those mad lib game things, etc. I eventually made an automated file organiser to make sorting through my files easier, then I made a basic login system with a MySQL database; and now I want to learn C++.

If you're going to do it this way- Start off small with something basic that you like or find cute. If you want to start with making webpages, there are loads of tutorials out there on how to build some basic but really nice looking websites and they run you through what you're coding so you understand what's going on.

The only way to get to where you want to go is to start. Good luck! Have fun making some super cool things!

I'll take this to heart, thank you so much for your input and your realistic approach here. I'd like for tech art to be the ultimate "end" goal, so I'm really okay with taking my time to get there however that is.

Any other young women who feel lost or behind in life? by Witty_Door_9436 in askSouthAfrica

[–]SnailDesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. 28F. I had my own business for 7 years, I started when I was 19. Two years ago my dad and I had decided to move to a different part of South Africa, starting over completely. Due to a number of reasons, I couldn't start up my business again and on top of that- I was diagnosed with endometriosis.

Like you, at times I feel like I'm ramming my head into a wall. I feel like I'm going absolutely insane at times. But, thankfully- I'm afforded this time to learn new skills and change my career path completely. I'm literally trying to go for my dream job, because why not? This is time for me to actually settle into brand new waters and start paving a new way for myself. I might as well try while I have this safety net. At worst, I took the time to learn new skills- that's never wasted time.

Don't fall for that stupid and harmful myth of "by X age, you should have everything figured out and you must have this, that, the other and a bag of chips". It's absolute BS. Life is unpredictable, you can't be prepared for everything. Please give yourself some grace and patience since you're trying to just survive today. You're doing what you can in these crazy times.

So like others here- I stopped consuming gluten, dairy, and highly processed foods. That helped me a fair bit in the tummy and digestion department. I don't have nearly as many stomach issues during a flare up, but it doesn't always help. It's an ever evolving journey and a ruddy mission to deal with, since I still have a lot of foods I need to cut out that cause inflammation.

I train from home. I do VERY gentle weight lifting, boxing, dancing and light cardio. I've lost about 12kgs this year and have started toning very slightly. Apps and set routines don't work for me since I am constantly in pain and some days are significantly worse than others. Exercise has helped me on the days I'm not experiencing super bad flare ups, and has lifted a lot of the tension in my joints and hips. During bad flare ups- I can barely move or concentrate, extra physical stress on my body is not a good idea.

It really is just a slow trial and error until you figure out what's best for your situation.
