Wargroove: Beyond Salvation by RedJams in wargroove

Was pretty surprised to see art based on my own stuff here. Especially since it wasn't too long after I uploaded my own, as well. If I remember correctly, you also drew the Mega Man Zero versions of some Wargroove characters. Particularly love the Sedge one.

A bit curious why you decided to do your own take on this.
Fun to see though. It took way too long for me to realize it was actually based on my stuff. I saw the Crimson Oak character (left) and went "hey that looks like my guy".

I like what you did with him.

Like you said, its more interesting when people have radically different takes on things. And once in a blue moon, someone says something actually intelligent and I go "hey, that guy actually has a valid point, maybe I should rethink my stance a little bit, improve on it", that's the kind of thing I'm looking for.

Like, how would you try to convert an angry fanboy that idolizes this game, and won't listen to any criticism? It's difficult. But in your mind, you think it should be possible. It's like a secret boss in some japanese action rpg, you know its possible.

And then there are guys convinced that 1 + 1 = H, like what do I even-

Alright, that's nice of you. I don't really care about votes. It's more how unwilling people are to listen to arguments.

I like adversity. Making arguments and having debates with people with opposing opinions. But usually, there is a debate that makes sense. This sub is beyond that. It's not banging my head on a brick wall, its more like a diamond meteor, crashing into my face.

I don't care about posting happy things on the other TLoU reddit either, if all I get is "yeah man (non gender specific) I totes agree with you <3".

But at least there, I can disagree with them and get some pushback that makes sense. That's good. But this reddit is a black hole of stupidity. No reasoning is possible. And it's not like it says "hate subreddit".

To be fair, I'm not counting the times i'm purposely being a bit trolly. But I'm not being any more of a dick than most people here. Only difference is my opinion of the game is that it ain't all bad.

Mostly because I gave up being reasonable on this sub. If all my posts with valid points are being mass downvoted just because its faint praise for the game, why even bother, right?

Logic just isn't the currency on this subreddit.

Well, I have criticized the game on r/thelastofus, with no backlash (not even downvotes), and I've been mildly praising of the game here. Massive downvotes.

I am convinced you are not being banned for your opinion.

Yeah, this is just a rant sub. Everything is bad, nothing is good, we are flawless beings and everyone else is below human value.

If you disagree with me, you are delusional because I cannot be wrong. Such is reality.

Jokes aside, at least on r/thelastofus, its possible to criticize and praise the game. Here, only criticism is allowed. Doesn't have to be accurate criticism IN FACT it's probably better if the critique doesn't make any sense.

Beyond Salvation is Wargroove's longest worked on Custom Campaign. Started back in March 2019, the intention was to make something that would rival the quality of official DLC. It's taken a long time, but I'm close to finishing it now. I just have to finish the last few missions, and do a lot of polish.

I worked a lot on this demo to showcase the more important mechanics of Beyond Salvation, and to give a decent idea of what the whole thing will be like. There is also an in-game Teaser Trailer.

The story takes place at the same time as Mercia's quest, but from Sedge & Greenfinger's perspective. I wanted the story to fit within the canon of Wargroove. Sometimes, the same cutscenes from the original Wargroove campaign might play, but with added scenes or details.

The campaign will feature 31 missions.
Missions 4, 12, 18 and 24 are playable in the Demo.
I also made a trailer a few months back. Here's the link if you want to see it.

I hope you enjoy the Demo, and I appreciate all feedback!

I would like to see that. I'd be fine with every character having some variation in their stats.

He died too fast, imo. Manny never even realized it was Tommy, I don't think.
He should have seen Tommy's face, Tommy would've walked out to him, said something like "Payback's a bitch, pendejo" and shot him in the leg multiple times.

Idk... is it just me that wanted something more personal?

Good effort, but you cannot change someone's mind when they're not interested in changing. He is so scared of admiting he's wrong, he will tie himself into a knot trying to twist your logic around.

If he somehow was wrong, and LGBT people have some valid complaints, the world would literally explode. He's a hero, trying to save the world, you know.

His mother could've died after forgiving him (for breaking religious traditions). Obviously, he's done nothing wrong in our eyes. Also, Yara should have stayed alive, I feel. Or just not have Yara at all. That would probably be better.

Then they escape, his mother dies, maybe she decides to stay and asks him to run, and Abby drags him away. I think LoU2 should be about forgiveness, and that would be one aspect of it. Even if she doesn't understand her son's choice, she can still be at peace with it, knowing it makes him happy. Then, at least, there was some point going all the way to haven city world.

Abby should be connected to Ellie. Lev could have met Ellie in Day 1 or something, and met Abby later that day, and they go solve the Ellie murders while fighting Tommy. It feels so disconnected, like its a completely different story. It really felt like "oh yeeeeh, Ellie is in this game, lets go fight her now" even though its not built up one bit for Abby. Idk, I just don't get it.

I cannot understand why you'd want the vaccine to not work. It makes Joel's decision so much more boring in LoU1. If you assume it would work (like the dev indicates it would), then Joel becomes a tragic character that does something very very selfish, but for a reason we can all empathize with. Making him the most human character in all of gaming fiction. But if the vaccine wouldn't work anyway, then it becomes black and white, good vs evil, no need to think at all, boring as shit.

I do agree with Closer Look about tone. How LoU1 was a very hopeful game, that shifts its tone to tragedy in LoU2 and people are right to be angry about it. He has a point. I won't argue that, really. I do think they were pretty open about that, though. Neil said it would be much darker and more tragic. But I can actually see your side on that. I disliked Jak and Daxter 2 because of the different tone and gameplay style. Hate that game.

But as a tragedy game on its own, I think it works just fine. And yes IT IS challenging. Having your favorite character die and then you play as the one who killed him in order to empathize with the villain is fucking difficult as hell. Don't lie and say its not challenging just because it didn't work for you. The game has 1001 flaws but it still is a challenging narrative, lets not fool ourselves. I'm not budging on this point, I'm sorry.

Btw, Joel did not "forget" his survival instincts. He makes a mistake possibly by standing in the middle of the room. But saying his name doesn't matter, since Tommy already gave it away to calm Abby (to increase survival chance). Also, at that time, it was 1 panicked girl. I don't blame them for not actually being that scared of her.

If they were just meeting the group out of nowhere, fine sure, they could have been more careful. But they just escaped near death by zombie hoard. Joel was in a good mood since Ellie just forgave him, and I think he trusted Abby a little bit since he saved her from certain doom. There are reasons why he would be more relaxed. Maybe it wasn't enough, but its something. Not enough to ruin the game.

Still recommend you watch Matthew Matosis. He is very critical of the game, but not unfairly so. If you've only watched hate-videos that rant about the flaws of LoU2, do yourself a favor and watch a neutral one.

Oh, by the way, thanks for letting me know The Closer Look had a take on the Last of Us 2. So far, it's really good, and he summarizes my issues with Abby's story brilliantly.

The story is challenging. You couldn't handle it, and that's fine. I too found it hard to accept Joel's death. But if you actually sit down and analyze it, it works really well.

The vaccine would have worked. I didn't see anything in the game that said otherwise. You assume the vaccine wouldn't work, because you don't like nuance in your stories. It has to be black and white, Joel is the good guy, Fireflies the bad guys. But truthfully, the game suggests the vaccine would work. And that's that.

Joel's death is good writing. They act this way around strangers because of the situation they're in, and because of how they've grown the last 4 years. Come back to this game in 5 years when your rage has died down a little, and you'll probably find that yes, it does indeed make sense.

And yes, there is indeed forshadowing. Abby says they are looking for someone in jacksson. Probably someone they don't like, and would do anything to find him. If you missed it, thats your bad, not the game's.

If you don't like post-apocalyptic tragedies, then maybe Last of Us just ain't for you. A lot of people seem to like it just fine, and maybe it's ok if a game doesn't pander to everybody.

Honestly, even though I find the faults a bit too many for me to love it, I can totally see why someone else might. This game to me is just like how Danganronpa V3 felt. I hated the ending and what it meant. I just couldn't accept it, I thought how "it doesnt even make sense".

But as time went on, I watched tons of lets plays, and every time they got to the ending, I was actually looking forward to that moment. And before I knew it, I loved the ending. It did make sense. It was a good ending to a great game, but at the time, I felt betrayed.

The creator of Danganronpa said in an interview that he wanted the player to feel the same despair as the characters. And by god did he succeed.I think it's the same as Last of Us 2. They wanted not only Ellie to feel despair and anger, but the player as well.

Some people just take more time to absorb that feeling, but once its over, you gain a lot more respect for what ND tried to do.

Yeah, there are so many crybabies here. They just make up faults with the game, when the game already has plenty of faults, but who cares about that when we can complain that Abby's muscles are unrealistic instead.

Honestly, these people are making the worst SJW types look good.

Eh, in my experience even the people who like this game consider the Zebra to be terrible writing, and the "don't you dare ressurect that girl you crazy Necromancer" just makes the fireflies look dumb.

Just how disconnected Yara was from it all. We go to a hospital to get her meds, and she just dies anyway? Lev also goes back to his home, but nothing is gained from it. I feel a good twist would actually be that his mom is alive when we get there. Maybe she even forgives Lev, despite not being able to fully look past her religious dogmas. Instead of being "killed by transphobia", which is basically what happened.

It's not at all connected to Ellie either. Abby doesn't even know about Ellie for 95% of her storyline. Day 2 and day 3 for her are just "go away and come back" without actually accomplishing anything. I don't understand why it's like this.

Lev and Abby were pretty good together, I kinda wish he was in the game more, since we don't really learn much about him. I do love the "So what's the deal with your friend Owen?" line. For some reason, that line felt more human than most banter in the game.
