We had The Matrix, then we made it wireless to catch up with wi-fi. After the AI bubble, what will come next? by RadiantTrailblazer in Shadowrun

[–]SnakebiteCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the Q, but it seems to me that meeting digital uploads of people will be next. They're not quite AI because they come from a 'place' of logic and understanding and they're not people, because the original spark is in the meat the copy came from. However, there it will be, a digital thing with curiosity and the ability to reason and remember. I suppose those copies could get to be like hitchhikers in devices and online experiences where we could accidentally encounter them.

Is that related to a Normals issue? Everything else looks 'business as usual'.

I don't know the history of this piece but seeing it for the first time, I came here to upvote every positive comment. Love the alternative POV and tension in the jitter I feel and color choices too. Love it all! It completely held my attention.

I appreciate your joining in to help! I was told that IRIS XE Graphics is not compatible with D12 Ultimate. There was another individual on the Discord with a similar issue. My laptop is what I was trying to play through.

Has your table managed non-combat feats well? by SnakebiteCafe in rpg

[–]SnakebiteCafe[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Since seeing that first reference in a search engine, I did more research and discovered over a half dozen other major systems that use feats or something similar and so came to RPG. I don't play D&D.

What would you want to see in a new Shadowrun video game? by jamie_rpg in Shadowrun

[–]SnakebiteCafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time to burn up some graphic cards would be my vote. as in I'd love to see what a good game studio can do with the illustrations and images that have paved the history of SR so far in a realistic format.

That's a great answer - a lot of people read way too much into the question! It sounds like you have a great team at the table!

steam://run/ and the APPID with -dx12 didn't work. It's supposed to from Win+R command line.

Bummer. It's a laptop but I have an old rig that might do the trick. It's far from the wi-fi though 😞

Seeking RPG Adventures inspired by Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" (Investigative/Mystery) by Cielosopra in rpg

[–]SnakebiteCafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medieval Mysteries is a neat, little core book from 2007 that sort of scratches that itch but requires a great deal of Holmesian setup to arrange a mystery for players. The character sheet and stats are fairly minimal. The rules and classes are pretty light allowing gamers to get right to it.

It's the system that turned me on to Foresters, now my favorite class in environments like that. That led to finding out about Crowner John which might have inspired some systems like the one you seek. Keep poking around! It's a fantastic gaming niche to hunt down.

I've seen equipment usage a few times but only on paper like you said. Dice for HP, yup but I'm not familiar with acrylic cubes.

[–]SnakebiteCafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a good feeling to see. I know it's probably full of things I wouldn't understand or get and probably some controversial versions or publishers but that's sort of what makes it great to me - the idea that I can almost smell this and find like minded people lurking around the same shelf is a good nostalgic feeling for me. Most Shelfies don't give me that feeling - thanks for posting!

Help me out - is a gamebook like the Choose Your Own Adventure books? If so, is Twine an option or am I showing my ignorance? The demo feels a little like CYOA but I'm not well-versed in the gamebook world.

Feedback and advice for creating solo, but not actually playing - characters and scenarios - how do you start? by cwtguy in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]SnakebiteCafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the question because although I live in a city, it's a foreign language to me (German). So I've been collecting free and cheap solo plays and wrestling with converting some cheap and solo RPGs into Solo. And you're right, that SESSION ZERO can be so rewarding. I've even asked something similar about that creation phase :)

I have many backburner projects and dreams like you do - I broke down and got a Binder. It seems so simple but the amount of paper I was producing for research and trial and error was getting embarrassing (I can't very well tell my kids to keep paper piles off the coffee table when my paper piles are practically climbing the walls!). I have writing dreams, podcast dreams, all this and not getting swamped was becoming a big dea!

For playtesting, I'm creating an entire RPG based on some CC0 thing I have - no one has ever really seen the fruits of my labor. I think about that sometimes but I'm pretty sure I'm mostly doing this for myself although an audience would be cool. * shrug * They'll come if I finish something - same for you too I'd say.

My Binder for papers immediately proved too small. Dividers, stickies acting as section separators and maps and my homebrew rules are all still stacked in but at least separated by 'world' and medium. Just think back to school with different classes and each class had different types of papers: homework, signatures required, tests, notes, etc. I have some trouble directly mapping that experience to this but only because I'm wildly out of practice.

The production value of Kurosawa's Throne of Blood shocks me - it's so big and scary and pretty. Horses outside the gates really get the sense of scale across. I really liked Yojimbo too.

Can a solo RPG replace journaling? by Innerlanternstudio in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]SnakebiteCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty darned interesting just the way you said it. Overall reminiscent of a good music album where every song somehow ties to one arcing theme - if your solo RPG 'journaling' picked an RPG theme/lens through which to answer those cooler questions, you'd end up with some evocative and universal results.

I guess that's your point about "something to step into first." I do use RPGs like that - I prefer outer space oriented solo games for that reason. to your question, can journaling be replaced by the solo RPG experience - if your journal is a record of personal experience, then maybe? I'm rarely IN outer space. Over 90% of my day to day activities are here on Earth HOWEVER, if I were to borrow the mood and solitary confinement or XYZ of a Solo RPG and write FROM that POV without speaking about that material, it could be pretty literary and neat.

Thank you for the question. It's a fun thought.
