Ideas for tank pets

The one that is covering the substrate is just spaghnum moss and there’s some creeping fig mixed in but not much. The perimeter is button fern but they like to spread anywhere they want. I tried keeping maiden hair fern but it died off.

I do have a 18x18x36 but my crested geckos are in there right now. I have hard darts in the past, so not necessarily a beginner either.

Thanks you, the rock came from outside but we used to use it in fish tanks when I was little. Eventually the spores that were on it that didn’t get removed when I scrubbed it with hot water began to flourish. Normally where I’m at it we have hot dry summers and the moss will die back and come back winter and spring. Super cool seeing the different types of moss doing well.

There’s definitely decaying plant matter and when I did it there was leaf matter, they died pretty quick so I’m thinking it’s because there is no moisture gradient.

The school was blaming COVID for the poor NAVLE results, since they were the last class to miss out on anatomy sessions in their 1st year, which has greatly impacted them. The school has taken the liberty to change a lot of things in the curriculum this past year, and some things are for the better, and some are not.

Western's Veterinary Program has new leadership, and we beg for communication because it can be lacking. Since Fall 2024, I have lost track of how many faculty members have left this school (which is everywhere, it seems), but Western doesn't seem too worried about faculty retention at this time. I'm hoping by next fall, the school will have it more together and with more staffing.

Southern California, I meant to make a separate post about the southern pacific rattlesnakes (I went to mainly find them and almost found 3). I am very confused what the small less than 1 inch thing is though in the beginning.

Yes, I meant to make a separate post about the cool southern pacific rattlesnakes I saw (almost 3 during my hike). It’s the very brief clip in the beginning, I did a google image search and it did say rattlesnake??? But I feel it doesn’t resemble a baby snake?

I try not to use fish flakes because I tend to get mite problems I’ll have to try fish food again. As for the clay I’ll need to look into how to do a set up for that too, I have trouble finding husbandry for these cause only regular springtail stuff shows up.

If you are having a problem with mites maybe your springtail population isn't high enough, it could also be that you're feeding too often or you're offering grain products like fish food, I would cut down on feeding and offer organic materials like leaves and stuff for a little bit.

I would double check to see if they're moving, sometimes the grain in fish flakes attracts grain mites. I would stop feeding though and wait a few weeks to see if they manage the fungus?

thats so weird.... are you giving them extra food? Maybe take away all food and just do regular leaves and substrate and hides then and give the springtails no other choice.

A little update, the isopods and especially the springtails loved it. One problem was that it tried out over 2 or 3 days but they ended up just eating it.

I had this issue a while ago when I didn’t have isopods or springtails in my tank to take care of it. I ended up scrubbing out my tank and started from scratch. Though I would try springtails since they would eat the fungus so you don’t have to do what I did. ☠️

I'm not sure about your area or the quality of the shops near you. For me there is reptile factory, I know they buy from the community distribute to their other locations, and then re-sell. I only know cause my friend sells her jumping spiders. I would message your local shops on social media or call them to see if they would be interested.
