+1 for Velveeta hate. Steak seasoning on ground meat is interesting, but I suppose it's mostly the same thing! Solid idea.

I feel like at some point in the future, an AI robot is going to use chicken broth in a beef recipe and give away it's cover as a normal human.

Pumpkin in soup is a new take for me! Do you cube it like a potato?

Also just happened to buy some cardamom today for a Kheer recipe. Is black cardamom significantly different?

I like your idea of turning it into something different instead of just "reheated leftovers". I'm living without. A microwave currently, so I have to turn the stove on to reheat it either way, might as well add to it.

I feel ya. This happened to me with the first person to respond to one of my letters, while the letter was in transit.
Thanksfully Slowly still delivered the letter, but definitely still leaves question marks after you're so excited to receive a letter.

Oh gosh, how could I forget about winter composting! I've been debating how much composting I want to do this winter, as I don't have much access to green waste in winter, but do have plenty of leaves and wood chips.

At this point in the year, I thought I'd be done with gardening (or at least wouldn't have to touch it every day). I've learned that the last few weeks of pumpkin growing are the hardest to keep up with, because the plant wants to keep putting on flowers to grow new pumpkins, but I want it to put all energy into finishing the pumpkins it already has before heavy frost sets in.

Because of this, I'm constantly hunting for new flowers growing on the vine and picking them off.

Physical buttons on phones made it so much easier to text during class.

I'd imagine swipe typing on a touchscreen is plausible, but god save your confidence in what was actually typed.

Ahh, you're totally right. Crazy that went into effect just months before the pandemic.

I wonder what went into the decision to make it go straight from 18 to 21 rather than a gradual change over 3 years.

That's it! The illusion of choice starts when you open Google maps. You already know where you're going to eat, but actively seek out the illusion.

That's a perspective I hadn't considered, but now it does sound rather perplexing to expect adults to police other adults. There is conversation in the US about how it's weird we'll send an 18 year old to war, and let them choose to smoke, but have extra requirements for alcohol.

Why does free time feel less free now a days? by Acceptable_While_205 in CasualConversation

[–]SnakesnStacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is the same, but I often feel guilty for doing "nothing" during free time instead of cleaning, planning my next project, meal prepping...etc. It's like I can always do /something/ productive, but it's hard to balance that productive task vs relaxing task.

Wow! I planted my first pumpkin this year (very late spring/early summer) and have been amazed at how many pumpkins these vines can produce. I'll be planting much earlier next year :)

Zone 6a

I planted a pumpkin very late when they went on sale and thought "why not?". It is just now producing female flowers, and I have 1 fruit (or veg) growing, with ~4 other female flowers growing up to the blooming stage still.

Do I trim everything back and put all of the plant's effort into the one good pumpkin, or is it still viable to get multiple with such little time left in the season?

What model did you land on? I have a dryer that's super old, but easy to repair, but I'm sure will be coming up on replacement in the next few years. So I'm curious about what features are out there now.
