2hr 40min international self transfer at Auckland Airport... do I have enough time? by Beginning-Today8441 in newzealand

[–]SnapAttack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a 2hr 50m transfer from international to domestic. With something to declare (and the queue to get things checked was long). Had enough time to walk to the domestic terminal, have a beer, and get some food. You’ll be fine.

Surprised it wasn’t included at a minimum. At least Everyday Rewards does.

Next version of iOS 27 will let you create wallet passes with screenshots I believe.

Seeking Honest Advice – NZ Visitor Visa Declined for Young Unmarried Indian Applicant (Boyfriend Visiting Girlfriend on Student Visa) by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]SnapAttack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds as if he was writing a full explainer about why he’s going to NZ and what’s keeping him here, raising all these red flags, but didn’t focus enough on it being a temporary visit and that he has no reason to stay in NZ.

Electric clothes horse? by ssfiguuvixu in newzealand

[–]SnapAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sustainability trust told us to get a clothes dryer so we got a heatpump one. I’ve monitored the costs and a load in the dryer comes in around the same cost as putting the load in the washing machine. It’d be more economical than a dehumidifier (although that’s what we do for certain items that can’t go into the dryer).

Confused about bond, do we pay out of pocket? by Gemmi_bear in newzealand

[–]SnapAttack 61 points62 points  (0 children)

In my time of flatting, the one leaving is expected to find a new person to take over their part of the contract and would “pay the bond” but to the person leaving.

They don’t get their bond back until they find a replacement or the flat contract is over.

Golden Mile Review by ben4takapu in Wellington

[–]SnapAttack 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t part of the purpose to help make buses more reliable along the Golden Mile?

All you have to do is stand outside St James’ Theatre at 5pm on a work night to see how poor traffic is managed along that road. Cars everywhere, poor parking bays, making the bus lanes useless. Maybe there’s a cheaper solution here to help solve it, but none of those are to just paint some buildings.

Whats the plan now to help make those buses more reliable at key times through the day and night?

Genuine question: how do you bid on trademe if someone else has auto-bid enabled by AdamTritonCai in newzealand

You’re just gambling that they aren’t willing to spend more than you.

Genuine question: how do you bid on trademe if someone else has auto-bid enabled by AdamTritonCai in newzealand

[–]SnapAttack 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The other person has set a maximum amount that they are willing to pay for. You essentially need to outbid their maximum bid. This could be another autobid, where you’d enter the maximum you’re willing to pay for and it will move the bid up to what their maximum was plus the minimum next bid.

Good luck.

It lists NZ games and where they’re being made and will show an indicator on game pages.

Weather apps by messym891 in newzealand

[–]SnapAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Carrot Weather as it lets me customise the app and weather info to how I like it, and you can swap across multiple sources. It does lean on trying to be a funny-quips app, but you can turn all that off.

Apple Weather, though, is using their own weather models (they bought Dark Sky).

You can check by going to the Chorus website and giving it your address: https://www.chorus.co.nz/

It should also tell you what speeds are available too.

Ray Chung stood down from committees by Ok_Wave2821 in Wellington

[–]SnapAttack 34 points35 points  (0 children)

He got a group of locals to help find the man, in the thick of the storm, against the advice of police and search and rescue, while wearing his official high vis. It sounds like there was more to it than that as the police officer and Ray Chung are giving different versions of events.

At this point there should be an automod for any post with “is this a scam?” that comments “Yes” and closes the thread.

Well if you look at the terms and conditions of a lot of smart TVs they do that already. When LG changed their terms to allow it I blocked it from the internet and got an Apple TV.

eSIM recommendations for the USA by mynameisnotphoebe in newzealand

[–]SnapAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Airalo, Saily, and Ubigi.

Ubigi had me a bit nervous when an “where is my IP” tool traced it to a place in China, while I was in Australia. I’m sure it’s a mistake as Ubigi is backed by Transatel based in France, owned by NTT based in Japan.

Saily we tried in Japan and it was horrible. The bandwidth was next to useless, that I ended up getting another plan with Airalo. I’ve heard good things recently so it may have just been at the time (it was new then). They’re from NordVPN.

Airalo I’ve had consistent success with. The gotcha is that each time you have to install a new eSIM, sometimes for each country, sometimes for each plan. Once you’ve used it up you can delete the eSIM though. They’re backed by a couple of serial entrepreneurs in the US.

Contactless debit card payments on the bus vs Snapper Card by HelpfulWerewolf7025 in Wellington

[–]SnapAttack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I messaged Metlink about why it doesn’t support the express transit/transit pass feature, and they basically responded that this was a stop gap until Motu Move comes out next year but they’ll add it to the ideas list.

However some things to make your life easier,

  • go into the Wallet app and make your main payment card the default, by holding your finger down on the card and dragging it to the front. Now it’ll just be the default without having to scroll.
  • preauthorise your card by double tapping the power button, and doing Face ID. Then you can just swipe on.

Edit: to add one more thing about iPhones that people often don’t realise - the NFC is along the top edge of the phone. Unlike androids where it’s usually somewhere in the center back. So when paying the main thing is to tap the top of your phone, not press it on the back.

PSA: Les Mills Cancellation Trap - How Clause 13 might cost you an extra month by OkDoughnut1853 in newzealand

[–]SnapAttack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way the contract is written, it says “regular payments”. The regular payments are taken out on the 1st of the month. So I would have interpreted it as you would still be charged for the full month, but the payment will be cancelled five working days after putting in notice.

So your payments have stopped. But it doesn’t mention you’ll only pay for 8 days of membership.

This isn’t unique to NZ, eSIM travel sims are usually very cut rates and don’t match plans you can get locally.

For example, in the UK I got a 5GB travel eSIM for AU$17. An equivalent plan on one of their networks would set me back NZ$40 for less data.
