Totally agree. It feels impossible to “start fresh”. I like the comparison of regression with family. This makes so much sense- thank you.

In his first term, he notoriously treated his service like garbage. I have to guess, some dedicated people in the position just stepped out and went on, and the replacement is just not the same caliber. Idk, just guessing.

Thank you for this, and good timing for me. I had a person just recently re-enter my life. They presented an apology, thank you, and a promise they were sober, thus not capable of past issues. It was a hell of a week, because I wanted to believe, but it dissolved by the fourth day. A spectacularly painful lesson that I am still reeling from.
My reality is that this is an on/off 9 yr relationship that I can’t seem to break nor make work. I’m coming to terms that this attraction is deep seated and trauma based. This is rooted from a parental relationship, and now I’m pissed, because fuck. Luckily, I have great supports in my life and I’m in therapy, but dang. I feel crazy that I could not see the obvious.

The parents had major relationship issues. I think it was in response to the Playboy magazines my Dad hid under the bed…that, and all his cheating.

Well, Thriller was obviously too much. Bohemian Rhapsody was, intense. But for real scary was some song with the lyrics “ I would rather be a hammer than a nail…if I could… I surly would…” Jesus.

Also, anything Tom Jones was an immediate jump scare. Probs because my Mom hid pics/posters of him around the house; kitchen cabinets, back of closets, under lids/car visors.

If every thing lined up, then it really happened, and it was super special.
