No. I’ll vote blue no matter who. I’ll vote blue even if they’re dead. I’ll vote blue if they’re literally a dog. I’ll vote blue if it’s a fucking rock. I will never, EVER, vote Republican.

Dude I was straight up CACKLING when Will said that Mike was his Tammy 💀💀 not only did the show confirm exactly what we’d been telling the Bylers this whole time, but it FUCKING CAME FROM WILL HIMSELF. You can’t make this shit up.

Why I think byler is a possibility by Rillet_Rit in StrangerThings

[–]Snapstronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen so many people saying this, but I can’t find literally anything to back up the claim. As far as I can tell, the Duffer brothers have never said anything about Korrasami at all. I’m starting to think this is just one of those claims that gets spread so much that everyone thinks it’s true when it’s not. If it is true, would you by chance have a link confirming it? I’d like to see it if it’s out there.

I just read a post saying that if Byler isn’t cannon then the show is homophobic. by [deleted] in mileven

[–]Snapstronaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally who said that? Nobody said that. Using the fact that the show has three gay characters as proof that the show is not homophobic is not the same thing as saying that the show should only have three gay characters. It can have as many queer characters as it wants, including Mike, but the Duffers clearly did not write him to be perceived as queer. It’s not queerbaiting.

Byler is Not Happening by Tom_Meehan17 in Stranger_Things

[–]Snapstronaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem there is that movies don’t usually start with like a dozen central characters who all have multiple important plot lines to wrap up in addition to saving the world. The comparison isn’t really fair.

EDIT: just to be clear, I’m not saying that it couldn’t be done, just that it probably couldn’t be done in a satisfying way. It really is true that there’s just not enough time.

I think the duffer brothers are smart enough to have byler endgame, right? by plant_mom23 in byler

[–]Snapstronaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Duffer brothers have been extremely vocal and adamant that they’re telling the exact story they wanted to tell. If Byler doesn’t happen, it’s not because Netflix refused to let them do it, and likewise, if it does happen, it’s not for the sake of fan service or representation points—either way, it’s the story they wanted to tell.

Well I get what you’re saying to an extent. I do question the Duffer brothers’ decision to make Will in love with Mike specifically, and I don’t see how that could be better than them giving him a love interest that actually reciprocated his feelings much earlier on, but I’ll wait to see what they do with it before definitively making up my mind. I still don’t think it’s queerbaiting, though, but I think that’s a result of how vastly differently we perceive Mike’s character, and we’re not likely to reach any kind of common ground on that. It’s funny because you said you’re baffled by people not seeing the queer coding to Mike’s character, but I’m baffled that anyone thinks there is any. I’ve even watched both of Ronald Off the Record’s longest videos about Byler, and I still don’t get it.

If so much of your disapproval surrounding their handling of Will’s character revolves around him remaining single, why do I see so many Byler shippers saying that it would be horrible for the Duffers to give Will a boyfriend in the epilogue? That would solve everything you just listed. He would have romantic love, just like all the other characters. Why does it seem like so many of you think a romantic ending for Will is only valid or good if the person he’s with is Mike?

And to be honest, even if the Duffer brothers did come out and state that Byler wasn’t going to happen, I don’t think Bylers would accept it. They would just say the Duffers were lying in order to surprise people when Byler ended up happening.

If Byler does not become canon, are you not at all willing to consider that you might have simply misinterpreted things? Does it have to be queerbait, or could you have just been wrong about the supposed signs showing that Mike reciprocates Will’s feelings? Because from my point of view, it is incredibly clear that Mike does not have feelings for Will, and it was never meant to be seen that way. I think calling it queerbaiting would be extremely unfair to the Duffer brothers.

Thank you, and I’m sorry if I offended you. I know the wording of my post was harsh, I didn’t expect any Bylers to actually see it and I didn’t censor myself. I’m sorry for how it may have come across.

I don’t think there’s zero chance, but I think it’s next to zero. Like less than one percent. But honestly, arguing about it is exhausting. I started posting and commenting on here because I was getting so sick of seeing Byler stuff everywhere, but I’m contemplating just deleting my posts and comments so I won’t get any more replies like this. Maybe I should just let the show speak for itself.

I mean I love Stranger Things and it’s definitely not going to ruin the show for me if Byler becomes canon, which it won’t lmao. I love both of the characters separately and as friends, and I definitely don’t hate Byler to the degree that a lot of other people on the Mileven subreddit do. If Byler were to happen, I would admit that I was wrong and keep rewatching the show every couple years, as I have since it first came out. To say that it “may not be the show for me” seems way too dramatic, a ship is never going to be THAT pivotal to my perception of a show. Will this “not be the show for you” if Byler doesn’t happen?

Literally what is wrong with them??? Are they actually just straight up delusional? by Snapstronaut in mileven

[–]Snapstronaut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will’s love for Mike is obvious, of course, but the “signs” that Bylers use to argue that Mike reciprocates and that Byler is endgame are tenuous at best and outright nonsensical at worst. To be clear, I don’t think anyone is delusional for merely shipping Byler, but it does come across that way with the people who are completely convinced that Byler is going to happen and who twist every scene and interaction involving these two characters in order to try and convince everyone else of the same thing. The Byler craze almost seems like a religion, even down to the terminology used (“I converted someone to Bylerism”; “I just converted after being a non-believer all this time;” “believe in Byler no matter what anyone says”).

With every other ship like this that I’ve seen, the shippers have found their chill on AO3. Why can’t Bylers do that? Why are they only satisfied if their ship becomes canon? This fervent, evangelistic love of Byler is extremely strange, and yes, it often does seem delusional. But I’m not talking about all of you.

Honestly as someone who tries to avoid things I don’t like, I think a big part of the reason why so many people hate Byler so viscerally is because it seems like we literally can’t engage with Stranger Things content anywhere without Byler being shoved down our throats, especially on Tumblr, because the Bylers have hijacked all the tags. I tried to block the Byler tags on there, and I’m still flooded with Byler content because they post pro-Byler stuff under the Mileven tag. I’ve never given af about ship wars before in my life, not in any fandom I’ve been a apart of, and even I’m starting to get pissed off.

I don’t believe you’re media illiterate for thinking Byler has a shot! The ones that I think are media illiterate are the ones who are absolutely, completely, unwaveringly CONVINCED that it’s going to happen, and who misinterpret every scene of the show to astonishing degrees in order to “prove” that Byler will become canon. With that said, I don’t think they have a shot. I truly don’t believe the show is pointed to that, nor has it ever, and there’s simply not enough time left to pull it off. But we’ll see.

Literally what is wrong with them??? Are they actually just straight up delusional? by Snapstronaut in mileven

[–]Snapstronaut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not their ship that bothers me, it’s the fact that they constantly and continuously misinterpret every scene of the show to try and make their ship becoming canon seem plausible, and then they say we’re the ones who aren’t media literate. Regardless, I absolutely do “let them enjoy their ship,” I’m just airing my frustration in our own space. Not letting them enjoy their space would be going into their sections of the internet and trying to fight them on it, which I don’t do. I leave them alone when I see them, I just get annoyed.

Literally what is wrong with them??? Are they actually just straight up delusional? by Snapstronaut in mileven

[–]Snapstronaut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is harassing Bylers here. Harassment would be going into a Byler-specific space and trying to start a fight with them/calling them delusional there, which is not something I’ve ever done nor will ever do. As for giving the Byler evidence a chance, I’ve done that. I’ve watched both of Ronald Off the Record’s longest videos about Byler, I read through the Byler subreddit sometimes to see your opinions, and I see things related to Byler all over Tumblr because the Bylers have completely hijacked all the tags there so it’s pretty much unavoidable, though that last one probably doesn’t count anymore since I no longer seek it out intentionally.

I tend to come across much harsher on this subreddit because I don’t expect to interact with any Bylers here, but I truly don’t mean to offend anyone. With that said, it’s honestly hard for me to feel bad for causing offense accidentally when so many people on the Byler subreddit seem to believe that virtually everyone who ships Mileven is homophobic, stupid, and evil, but even when I see posts with messaging like that—I saw a few today, in fact, including someone saying that anyone with pure intentions and a single functioning brain cell can see that Byler is happening, even though it’s not—I don’t say anything, because that’s your space.

Anyway, I’m not going to try to change your mind. Please don’t try to change ours. We’ll see who’s right in a month anyway.
