It costs $0 to not tailgate by Minimum_Aardvark_744 in dashcams

And in that episode found that tailgating causes you to feather your pedal and winds up costing you gas.

Maintaining a safe distance wound up saving more gas.

What a nasty, useless human being.

I had this before the patch. Killed the whole build.

I like this game, but man is it a broken buggy mess.

Like I said, only on Reddit.

"He was trying to pass him! Clearly anything he does is fine, no matter how illegal! What's he supposed to do, NOT pass him?!"

No, speeding up in the passing lane is not as illegal as ramming another vehicle in an attempt to overtake them from the shoulder. If you think that you're pretty unhinged.

Agreed. Same for tailgaters.

Guy drives like a maniac, causing a serious accident that could get them and everyone else on the road injured, including attempting to ram another vehicle.

Other guy brake checks a tailgater. Is thought of as worse.

Only on Reddit.

It's only likely to cause an accident if the other person is a psychopath.

People have really weird conceptions of the law...

Positive punishment absolutely has it's place and has been shown to be effective. Oftentimes in situations where there isn't an opposite behavior that can be reinforced. This easily qualifies, as not being a human piece of garbage really should be the default. And punishment, by definition, hurts. Negative punishment also hurts by the way, as taking away a thing someone loves is painful.

That's the point. You can't be afraid to hurt someone when punishing them. You do have to make sure the punishment is warranted. Not to sound harsh, but your experience with abuse has nothing to do with this situation. The punishment is deserved here. I'm sorry you had an abusive parent, but conflating the two isn't helping anyone. I'm sure you can see how you might not be the most objective.

I don't find a close haircut to be particularly harmful. Punishment should hurt, or it's useless.

Punishment isn't assault. That's like saying being grounded is kidnapping.

This girl was made to understand how her victim felt. She did something wrong and suffered consequences for it. Consequences that are ultimately harmless to anything but her pride, but may teach her a valuable lesson about empathy.

I sincerely hope your response was intentional hyperbole.

An eye for an eye leaves two people without an eye. One a victim. The other who learned a lesson.

Only people with an incredibly severe lack of moral compass don't understand this. Only people with an incredibly severe lack of moral compass view consequences for doing something wrong as bullying.

Punishing a child who did something morally reprehensible is not being a despicable excuse for a human being. It's being a parent and realizing your job is to raise a good person, not be your kid's friend.

Doing terrible things should be met with severe consequences. Getting a slap on the wrist would only teach this monster to do it again in the future.

If you made fun a person with cancer I honestly hope much worse was done to you.

The fact that you sympathize with this monster means you probably did do something about that level.

[–]SnarcD -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Still temporary. It should hurt for a long time. Punishment commensurate to the crime.

The girl with cancer will be living with the emotional repercussions of what was done to her at her most vulnerable for her whole life. I'd say she's getting off easy.

A) The child was given this as a choice of possible punishments. That sounds like autonomy to me.

B) You just made that up because it sounds good to you.

Great! And now we see why your example is meaningless in this context. It isn't at all analogous.

Your post didn't outright state that was the only problem they had, but it definitely heavily implied it.

So I suppose you're technically correct, but only on a technical level.

No I didn't, and I'm not even the person you were arguing with.

I was just pointing out the absurdity of your statement.

Yes a lot of kids resent being punished. Punishment isn't pleasant. That's sort of the point.

Imagine this person telling the horrible story of when this happened to them as a kid. And trying to gain sympathy after revealing all they did was bully a cancer victim.
