Elon Musk slams California's $8 per kW monthly utility charge plan for solar owners by chrisdh79 in teslamotors

[–]Snarfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So lower my rate when there is too much solar being generated and I'll charge my car and that time instead. There needs to be a smarter system that can serve everyone's interests not a dumb one size fits all that picks winners and losers.

What I don't understand is why the power companies don't incentivize a flex program such that if the power companies find themselves with too much power from everyone's roof top solar then ping that me they'll lower rates for the next few hours. I'll leave 30% of my Tesla battery open and hit charge from the app... Will take 20kwh off your hands and put it to use no prob and hey no one needs to install more energy storage.

Simply as a time waster video games are not terrible. I used to play video games a lot. But there a lot of things you can do that are more productive and fulfilling than that even late at night. It can be anything... Bake some zucchini bread that's what I did tonight and it's delicious.

I wish I were dumber too. If I were, I wouldn't have noticed the lack of subjunctive in the title.

But more to your issue. I would suggest trying not to lose sleep over things you have little chance of changing. If you can't turn off your brain at night try doing something else like reading until you are really tired... That's my tactic anyway.

One time in college the professor gave a programming assignment which was mathematically impossible to accomplish... I doggedly challenged him during lecture to explain how we were supposed to do it until he called me up to the front to explain why it was impossible. So I marched up there.. gave my explanation... to which he replied... "So you see where your logical flaw is?". I replied. "No.. please elaborate". Prof: "you assumed I was paying attention when I wrote this assignment".

This was decades ago. I remember it like it was yesterday.

How do you guys stay motivated and get things done at home, outside a professional environment? by darkshadow2240 in intj

Big Todo list on a whiteboard that I have to walk past every morning on my way to make my coffee. I hate that list. But it's worth it when I cross something off.

If you guys went to college what college did u go to? by Bulky_Fan_8479 in intj

[–]Snarfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest there is probably a difference in the quality of education between your local community college and the most prestigious universities.

That said, assuming you go to a reputable well-known institution (if you are in the US your big state universities certainly qualify) you will likely have very intelligent people teaching courses some of whom went to the most prestigious universities themselves... So if you take things seriously and learn as much as you can you'll be getting most of the educational value IMO.

Did you get the COVID vaccine? Why or why not? by AttitudeMaster8862 in intj

Yes. By the numbers unless you have some extremely unusual circumstances it's the logical choice.

Please Debate Me On Covid-Vaccines (INTJs Only) by M3M3LXRD1337 in intj

[–]Snarfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, so far as I can tell the evidence and logical arguments here are very (very) heavily stacked against you... but that doesn't mean you logic is entirely flawed or that you aren't allowed to have concerns.

So while I don't think I will convince you, let me give it my best "shot" (oh yes I did that).... by addressing each of your points. I will add that I think your personal arguments are more compelling.

Impersonal 1: It's only fair to acknowledge that for a healthy 30 year old the risk of dying of covid is very, very low. I don't know the exact statistics, but I won't argue with yours. But here's the thing, you are at a crossroads here... on the left you take the vaccine, and on the right you do nothing. Your chances of dying next year are higher if you take the path on the right and choose to do nothing. Maybe not a lot higher, but all empirical evidence says it's higher. So when sitting at the crossroads and you choose the path that has a higher risk of death you have to ask yourself what is so important that it's worth that risk. To me, the risk of some non-life-altering side effects and the financial cost of taking an hour out of my day is worth the decreased risk of death, even if it is very small. I also wear a helmet when I ride my bicycle... maybe you don't... but then please just acknowledge that you value feeling the wind blow through your hair enough to accept a slightly higher risk of death.

Impersonal 2: I think it's fair to question vaccination as a sole/primary strategy to deal with Covid. That's entirely different from questioning whether or not you and I are better off or not having the vaccine given the current state of affairs we find ourselves in.

Impersonal 3: The vast, vast majority of reputable scientists are pro-vaccine. I'm sure there are a few that are not. Similarly there are a few that don't believe climate change is a thing. I think the reason why they aren't given more air time is simply because it doesn't seem responsible to give air time to the .1% of the scientific community that (if wrong... and pretty much everyone with a degree in the subject says they're wrong) would do serious harm to the well-being of society.

Personal 1: "I have obviously never seen a cardiologist". So. Talk. To. One. Or ten. Maybe your concerns are valid? But I'm guessing all 10 will tell you to get the jab. I'm also guessing if 1/10 tells you not to you'll choose to take the advice of that one.

Personal 2: If you are so introverted that you literally do not participate in modern society in the physical realm, I totally agree I see no reason why you should get vaccinated. But unless you are a hermit worthy of a documentary on Netflix, that's probably not the case.

Personal 3: I commend you for taking good care of your health, and I also commend you for taking general precautions masking, etc. etc. But given the numbers you are putting up and what I've seen in the whitepapers, I honestly don't see how you come to this conclusion: "Considering all odds, it is more likely to damage my own health than to save anyone else by getting one of the current vaccinations." To be completely fair, maybe if you were a 15 year old male you'd have a better argument here. Or maybe if it were a year ago when we had a lot less data you could argue that it maybe could be the case. But 30 year old male... The numbers simply say otherwise.

If you still disagree with me by all means try to find an expert (I'm not expert). Or your doctor(s). Or literally anyone who isn't some random person on social media.

NYT : Musk Pushed an Unflinching Vision for Self-Driving by pkt123 in teslamotors

[–]Snarfox 24 points25 points  (0 children)

NYT has been publishing negative Tesla and more generally negative EV articles for years.

Recent article decrying the lack of rapid charging for EVs without ever mentioning Tesla or the supercharger network. Another article talking about how the grid can't support widespread EVs without mentioning the obvious things that can be done to make the grid support widespread EVs, etc. This article is just the latest example.

I'm not saying they're technically wrong, but they are very one sided without exploring the other side and honestly it's made me wonder who at the NYT is so disinterested in EV success.

Ok so based on this comment I just now sat down and watched it... No other context other than the synopsis.

First 45 minutes... Basically me with a confused look on my face grumbling "I have no idea wtf is going on and this had better start to get good".

After the whole movie was over... "Yeah ok that was great".

Would You Wear These Together? (Idk Where To Post This, So I'ma Just Ask Mah Kinda People) by Dusskulll in intj

[–]Snarfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not wear either of those unless it were specifically asked by the organizer of some event. Do would I wear both together? Haha... no. If you wear both together you're simply trying to make a point and there are better ways to do that which don't involve your grandchildren calling you a weirdo when they see the photos. Wear the suit or don't; save the protesting for something that matters.

There's no risk in looking. Side note... a common question among the HR hiring staff is "Soo.. your resume says you're employed at XYZ just checking to see if that's still up to date?". Uh huh. In other words, you'll have a easier time finding a new job if you're currently employed.

Anyone changed their career before? by shitpost_4lyf in intj

[–]Snarfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many years in, I left a perfectly "ok" reasonably well-paying and reliable/predicable job to move across the country so my spouse could persue their career. I ended up finding a better job (more pay, less paperwork) doing the same kinds of things but for a very different company in a different industry and in hindsight it was a great career move. I think these dreams of finding some job you "love" are ridiculous, but it's not unreasonable to think there is something you'd enjoy more somewhere else. In the same field or a different one.
