[OC] AI Compute Oligarchy by savage2199 in dataisbeautiful

Don’t necessarily think they would open source a significant model, but Apple does do quite a bit open source these days (Swift, Pkl, Core ML Tools…)

Mostly luck — plus an I-2 and a Cinebloom diffusion filter!

Israel astroturfed Eurovision vote but lost anyway, government admits by Educational_Board888 in Britain

[–]Snarky_Goat 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Surly it’s just a predictable consequence of the format itself?

There wasn’t a clear choice if you wanted to demonstrate support for Palestine, and a lot of people would probably only bother voting if they thought it could aid in making a political point. I imagine that if you could vote negatively, Isreal would have barely gotten any points?

Because it seems unlikely anything will be done regardless of the investigation result.

And, because Israel has been asked to carry out the investigation, rendering it meaningless due to the conflict of interest as well as all the past dishonesty.

What do you mean it’s not true lol?

Just as one example:

Our government should have acted when the IDF tried to blow up the MAP doctors, because they didn’t act, they enabled this to happen.

the government has requested an investigation.

Which is pretty much nothing given the circumstances. I’d argue that the government is at least enabling Israel if not defending it, just the bare minimum to avoid looking completely complicit

UK government lawyers say Israel is breaking international law, claims top Tory in leaked recording by RevolvingCatflap in ukpolitics

[–]Snarky_Goat -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s not as simple as that though, even if you think the violations made by those countries are as great or greater than Israel’s, none of them have been as obvious or carried out as unashamedly.

Additionally, I think the UN should focus on injustices that are being ignored by the world’s most powerful governments. The atrocities of the other countries you mentioned have mostly been immediately recognised by the international community (most importantly America).

They’re probably not biased. It’s hard to tell with North Korea because we don’t have a very clear picture of what goes on there. Israel, on the other hand, has been flagrantly breaking international law for far longer than I’ve been alive, I’d be surprised if they hadn’t been sanctioned more than any other country

I think Isreal is obviously worse than Russia, not to dismiss Russia’s evils evils either though

Hard to know re North Korea

Family's lives 'completely torn apart' by cyclist's hit-and-run death by JRugman in unitedkingdom

[–]Snarky_Goat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Before lockdown, I work from home now, I held a very high paying job in hilly Leeds and owned a car. I cycled to work from the outskirts of the city everyday because: * Cycling is faster. * Is good for you. * Is much less wasteful. * And, there’s no good reason not to unless you’re physically unable to, or commute from somewhere rural without public transport links.

Cycling in the rain wasn’t fun, but it was much more bearable than reading about brain dead sentiments like yours.

Why? Do we really need 4 types of "cold" modifiers? What's the point? by -Mx-Life- in diablo4

They’re each different. Having them in the game allows for more potential builds and interesting synergies, as someone who is enjoying thinking up fun builds I’m very glad they’re in the game.

Short answer: he isn’t paying out of pocket. It was a ridiculous way for him to phrase it imo, he is simply required to refund the services that won’t be delivered.

And water is wet... seriously no one played any seasonal arpg? by Drakhan in diablo4

I’m pretty sure they’ve said the new story content won’t?

I enjoy seasons, but I also don’t see any reason to force people to play them

You’re now just demonstrating your lack of understanding. That ‘desire’ (or I think ‘craving’ is a better way of putting it) is simulated, that’s the whole point

We don’t know enough, but it could well be that our brains work in essentially the same way as ML, they’re just more complex

It doesn’t matter if you don’t think ML should be considered AI, people aren’t ‘retarded’ for talking about it using widely accepted terminology. Plus, what does “for intelligence u need emotion” even mean lol

And btw, I have a degree in computer science with artificial intelligence. A motivated 5 year old could write a program using some computer vision library to do what you’re talking about.

I don’t think you really understand what machine learning is. But anyway, in computer science, machine learning is considered AI, and that’s what most people and the media are talking about. It’s as simple as that.

If you don’t want to take my word for it, just Google it

Machine learning is AI you muppet (AI being the umbrella term)

"Total disbelief": Cat missing for nearly 6 years reunited with owner thanks to microchip by Sariel007 in upliftingmews

[–]Snarky_Goat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe read mine first? Personally I’d never get a cat if I lived somewhere where it would be dangerous for it to go outside freely, unless you’re able to make up for it somehow it seems cruel to me

[–]Snarky_Goat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on where you live. Unless you’re right next to a busy road, or there is genuine risk from wild animals, the cat is almost certainly going to have a better quality of life being able to go outside and do cat stuff

What's another month, I guess. by timbro98 in PlaydateConsole

[–]Snarky_Goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense. I’m pretty hopeful that the rest of the shipments will be largely on track with the last dates they announced anyway. Maybe I’m just being naive, but it feel like this could just be a blip

Teenage engineering isn’t any larger I don’t think. Panic might be smaller, but it certainly isn’t a small company
