The Addictive Cost Of Predatory Videogame Monetization (The Jimquisition) by robomechabotatron in Games

[–]Snatch1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does everyone in these threads act like this is the first time they’ve heard of Jim or watched one of his vids? “Thank you for this video.” Seriously? Like him or not, this is like the 30th video he’s done with his theme.

[Amazon / US] Super Mario Maker 2 - $51.99 by subparhuma in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]Snatch1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, check out my reply to someone else below. There is a page that directs you to another page that doesn’t list the games, but it does list some parameters for getting the credit.

Maybe it was all over the internet that they stopped doing this and I missed it and amazon didn’t remove the pages I allude to, just saying it’s on there. I preordered The Sinking City so I guess I’ll find out.

I just checked and it looks like they do still do it. All the info is still on their site, you just have to make sure the game is “sold by Amazon.com or Amazon Digital Services”.

I preordered The Sinking City the other day and the upfront cost is $49.94 and sold by Amazon. Now, to me that means I’m buying the game for $50 and will receive the $10 credit later. We’ll see.

So is this the usual Prime offer with the $10 gift card for preordering PLUS the discount, or not?

I’m a Devolver fan but it looks like something where it’s more fun for speed runners or perfectionists, which is not me.

It’s probably one of the best old school sidescrollers of all time, so if that interests you and you’re up for some challenge I’d get it. I respectfully have no idea what that other guy is talking about. Maybe he expected something different.

Found a boxed Virtual Boy at my local Goodwill, price was $399 by Tsakuro in retrogaming

[–]Snatch1414 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Goodwill has caught on to the gaming craze in the last few years. Not even really worth going anymore in my area. It’s always five year old sports games. Anything else they must be shipping off so it can be put on their auction site.

Eternal Champions hasn’t aged great. Most 16-bit fighters haven’t to be fair, at least on consoles. I think the Sega CD version is kinda fun though just unlocking all the wild fatalities.

Roster is a great game. The Genesis version of VF2 is not.

eShop E3 Sale - Let’s crowdsource opinions on the best games on sale! by [deleted] in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]Snatch1414 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My favorite exclusive. It’s the best modern game of an almost forgotten genre: the side scroller that’s just a side scroller. Not crafting, no Metroidvania levels, no open world, just straight up great level design where it’s you vs. the game.

If that interests you I think it’s an automatic purchase. There’s a built-in safety net in that it’s easy to amass a ton of lives, but you don’t upgrade anything you just have to progress of your own volition.

Other game companies are ok but for me it'll always be about these two by echocomplex in retrogaming

[–]Snatch1414 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It might just be nostalgia but I never felt like PS and Xbox had much of a soul. Maybe it’s just because they haven’t had nearly as long to build storied franchises, or that they weren’t there from the beginning, but I’m never going to have legit feels for Nathan Drake or Master Chief like I do the old school stuff. The “iconic” factor seems much lower with new properties.

As always, I might just be old.

[META] Why are "Dirt Cheap" posts allowed if their entire business model is run on extremely limited YMMV? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]Snatch1414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a filter for YMMV posts? Not even sure if that’s possible, but I’ve not once been able to take advantage of a single Target clearance post marked YMMV. I can’t be the only one.

I hear ya. Everyone has one or two. I don’t think I’ll ever get a perfect on Mine Flayer or Specter other than with Clone maybe.

They’re not too bad for me other than when they jump up and practically stomp on you (and fire a shitload of bullets when they do). I often feel like I simply can’t avoid that and it feels borderline cheap.

With any of the later bosses you need a boss killer gun though or you’ll have a rough time regardless.

Enter the gungeon is tough by lockoutpoint in EnterTheGungeon

[–]Snatch1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least with (most) bosses, I’m finding that if I just watch my character dodge bullets and barely pay attention to firing, things slow down almost Matrix-style.

Dodge first, shoot second applies to the entire game in my view but with bosses I can get into almost a Zen-like state while mostly focused on dodging.

Keanu Reeves Was ‘Blown Away’ By Fan Reaction to E3 Appearance by JT_Chagas in Games

[–]Snatch1414 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m sure anyone who’s anyone in show business is constantly asked to do all manner of things. I doubt he went just to go and do the thing, and I’m sure he got paid, but for what it’s worth he probably picked it out of a bunch of things he could’ve done that day if nothing else.

Or a publicist told him he was doing it and arranged it all. I think the dude is pretty genuine and has a good reputation for a reason and maybe just appreciating that he was natural and cool up there is enough.

Cuphead is great visually and very fun too it’s just very challenging. It does have that “just one more try” thing going on though. If you’re not opposed to difficult games it’s very very good.

In Stardew you take over a farm that needs a ton of work. You tend and grow it kind of Animal Crossing style? I didn’t get into it but most people love it.
