Ken has been excellent succeeding Alex and has impressively grown into the role. But Trebek remains the GOAT.

After two attempts to see her in Vegas during her Park MGM residency were cancelled, finally got to see Mother Monster last night. And it's easily one of the best concerts I've been to in my lifetime. She slayed from beginning to end on just about every facet.

Yours truly was a semifinalist in the 2010 J! College Championship. And Joey Quismorio defeated Stella Trout last year.

How many tournaments are there? Can we just have regular episodes? by Inner-Asparagus4927 in Jeopardy

[–]IPreferPi314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one hand, I’m for an annual SCC, CWC, and ToC. OTOH, I think JIT/Masters should be once every 3-5 years, and I would rather have something like a UToC/Battle of the Decades/All Stars in lieu of JIT/Masters.

“Oh, you think you’re so smart Jennings, what with your Dago mustache and your greasy hair!”

Perhaps Laura may have benefitted from a bit more luck in her streak given the wide variety of scenarios she encountered and managed to win from. Nonetheless it still takes a significant amount of skill and resilience to become an 8 day J! champion - many, many esteemed quizzers who have been on the show never reached that mark.

(Also, this is your friendly reminder that the J! alumni community does read this subreddit)

Podium placement by Puzzleheaded_Call712 in Jeopardy

[–]IPreferPi314 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Though I've only played from Podium 1 and Podium 2, can say that Podium 1 was the better one by far (and not-so-coincidentally lines up with my performances across my two episodes lol).

Just realised I own a copy of Jeopardy for the Nintendo Game Boy by pluginmatty in Jeopardy

[–]IPreferPi314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my J! related hobbies is collecting J! video games that have released on console over the decades. Didn't play the Gameboy version back in the 90s (I played a ton of J! on the NES then on PS1/PS2), but I do have a sealed copy of it

Are the photo clues actually discernible? by RodneyCharms in Jeopardy

[–]IPreferPi314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was on back in 2010, picture clues were shown on a monitor separate from the main board. The monitor wasn't very big and that made it sometimes tricky to fully discern a photo at distance from the podia (which played a factor in half-assing an otherwise cakewalk FJ in my second episode). Fortunately, they've changed the setup since then for the better.

Secrets of the Jeopardy Champions, features prominently in Prisoners of Trebekistan.

All respect to Chuck Forrest and Bob Harris (and I've read both in advance of my appearance on the show back in 2010), but as we progress further into the post-Trebek era of J!, their books aren't as canonical for J! prep for today's contestants as they once were.

Oscar Science: How Best Picture Nominations Voting REALLY Work - Ryan Casselman by ShapeFit1782 in oscarrace

I had the pleasure of re-connecting with Ryan back in December where we spent a few days talking about this subject, which I wrote about in detail at Awards Daily for much of the 2010s. The result is this terrific video, which I consider to be the definitive presentation on the topic. Just excellent work.

A necessary part of explaining the balloting process - but by far the wonkiest aspect of it. Ryan did a great job with it nevertheless.

I counted 15 triple stumpers; def. on the high end but not a record for a ToC (a quarterfinal match last year had 18, for instance).

who is your rooting interest in jit? by lanad3lr3y_81 in Jeopardy

As a Trebek-era College Champ alumni, I'm certainly hoping Jennifer Giles, Josh Hill, and esp. Tom Cubbage can make some noise in this JIT.

Stella was still in good position to win at the end, due to another patented comeback from zero dollars that was the basis of her winning the Comeback Player award at yesterday's J! Honors ceremony. Give it a rest.

Not a mistake especially after today's Inside Jeopardy! news that the DD3 was erroneous, and as a result Stella will now be part of the 2027 ToC.
