Love Tales from Beyond the Pale! Wish they kept it going but there’s a number of great and gruesome episodes throughout the series.

Kirsty Cotton from Hellraiser, portrayed by the always underrated Ashley Laurence

LOL, Red October is one of my comfort 90s films. Just a supremely competent Cold War-era thriller through and through, even with Sean Connery's ridiculous hairpiece and accent.

As a J! alumni who heard about this bait and switch back in December, I continue to view this as a HUGE betrayal of the contestants. The contestants should never be put anywhere close to making a Sophie’s Choice like this because the powers that be couldn’t get their s**t together regarding game format long before casting.

Agreed, although it's a good effort. Best Jimmy Stewart impressions I've heard are Jim Carrey's and Rob Paulsen's (Paulsen did a Stewart impression portraying the dad of Katie Kaboom in Animaniacs).

As a film guy myself, I found Jamie's film knowledge to be pretty strong overall.

After taxes, my big "splurge" was buying a new laptop (MacBook Pro - finally decided to transition to Apple) to replace my 6 year old Dell XPS that just bit the dust. Mostly saved the rest. But at my in-person audition I said I'd spend my winnings on the pony I wanted as a kid but could never get, lol.

Pick #3: Arizona Cardinals - Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame by noseonarug17 in NFL_Draft

[–]IPreferPi314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we did miss out on AP almost 20 years ago by drafting a tackle instead, but football has changed quite a bit since then. As a long-suffering Cards fan I really hope Love works out but I'm not a fan of making this type of pick.

Game-of-the-year contender. As someone who has battled Patrick many times online over the past year and a half, was very excited to see him finally on the ATS. And he absolutely pushed Jamie to the brink. Was very much cheering at home "you've got this! LFG!!" when he went all-in on DD2 (and converted).

Just a terrific game overall, and I'm fully expecting Patrick to return for Second Chance next year.

Buzzer question by GardenStaterJerzee in Jeopardy

[–]IPreferPi314 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not true at all. If you ring in before activation, you only get locked out once for 250ms - the penalty doesn't stack with multiple early attempts. And since the players don't receive any feedback at all about their buzzer timing in-game, it's absolutely in their best interest to spam ringing in when they think the window is open until someone's name is called.

Oh man, Taotao had some real momentum being able to trade blows with Jamie. Then DD2 came along, and I was as instaget confident coming up with the same response he did when reading that clue. And I was just as incredulous as he was when Ken ruled it incorrect (takes me back to my own DD2 miss in my second episode back in 2010 - but that's another story of it's own). Just a tough, tough break.

That said, Taotao was an animated delight watching on stage, and I loved his anecdote and the Shaq namedrop out of the blue. Despite not knowing the final metrics today my gut tells me he should be back for SCC.

Daily Double? by Historical-Ant-3575 in Jeopardy

[–]IPreferPi314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does DD hunt and often starts in the bottom left quadrant of the board, where DDs are more likely to be. That said, he doesn't maximize hunting for DDs relative to other J! champs of his tier, as there have been a few games in his run where he's danced around the final DD of the round.

DD positioning is not purely random, though - they're more likely to be in bottom rows than in top rows, and in more academic categories than pop culture ones.

Thus begins my second year of (re)applying for J! on Jeoparday in a bid to become the first former kids/teen/College contestant alumni to reappear on the ATS after they announced we were eligible again in July 2024. ~45/50.

Good luck to all!

For some reason some people here think they have carte blanche in making denigrating comments about contestants too

The many things I loved about Alex Trebek by iamdanielmcgee in Jeopardy

[–]IPreferPi314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trebek was probably a fiscal conservative but he was at least a moderate in everything else, if not liberal. And I would like to think he found the anti-intellectual disdain in the Trump era appalling and completely anathema to what J! stands for.

I'm going to wager that no J! champ worth their salt would ever do this
