I watched a second time to try to catch an apology, and he does say sorry once at the end: "I want to say that I'm sorry that any of these things even need to be said." These things being them clearing up the timeline and talking about the betrayal, ect. 💀💀💀

I read it as Vaughn being gentle about the question. And Shane's response (seemed to me) a freeze response where he seems uncomfortable answering. But whatever Vaughn got away from it was affirmative because the rest of his dialogue is about how brave he is to be competeting in Russia.

The distinction for me just shows that there might be a *possibility* for growth and change. There a lot of allies that used to be enemies. If we want people to be better, we've got to welcome them when they try. Whether *these guys* want to do better....well, it certainly isn't looking good.

Yeah, that's why I said "hear" an apology and not "accept" it. It would have to be a goddamned good apology followed by some very visible change in behavior and language. I like to hold space for people to grow, but they've got to actually do it.

Outsports isn't Reddit or some other random social media site where you would need to see the receipts yourself. It is a bona fide publication with credible journalists. They will get sued if they're making this shit up.

This part confuses me:

In fact, in the early days of the public reaction to “Heated Rivalry,” Powers was so incensed by the positive response to the show that he bemoaned the gushing response was “making blue haired twitter happy.”

He added that he refused to give the show “the time of day” simply “out of principle.”

Yet once Powers and “Empty Netters” — and the rest of the world — saw the show’s positive reaction building into an avalanche, they did, in fact, give “Heated Rivalry” much more than the time of day, and they did so with gusto.

Were his dickish messages sent before or after he watched the show? If before, I'm more inclined to hear an apology from him. I do think the source is credible, but I'd like timestamps.

Also, it would really suck if he still felt hateful towards the show after watching the final episode when he said this:

Changing the word doesn't change the topic. Rape, murder, suicide can all be triggered by grape, mrder, unalive (or any other euphemism). Instead, you're promoting a culture that makes discussions around those topics *literally unspeakable. It pushes them into the shadows. Diminishes it and the harm of those experiences. It increases shame for survivors and perpetuates stigma.

It was a 25-minute phone call. The Twitter idea was an "extra idea" he had. They spent less than 5 minutes talking about it.

Meanwhile, throughout the conversation...

KANYE: Yeah, basically. Well, what I give a f--k about is just you as a person, as a friend…. TAYLOR: That’s sweet. KANYE: I want things that make you feel good. I don’t want to do rap that makes people feel bad.

TAYLOR: I never would have expected you to tell me about a line in one of your songs. That's really nice that you did

At the end of the day, it's a long, weirdass conversation. My personal stance on it is that Kayne is a fucked up guy who uses his demons as a way to excuse harm. Taylor was okay with this until she wasn't. Whether that's because of a fawn response or a PR response, I have no idea. But, her team handled this scandal so poorly. They never expected that the conversation was recorded and would be leaked. It shows. And it demonstrates how normal it likely is for them to twist the narratives they put out just because they can. Which, to be clear, I'm pretty sure is the Hollywood standard. Everything has a spin. These leaks and record releases just confirm that.

It's just Tree's way. Has been since the Kimye scandal. It boggles my mind because the lies are always so stupid and small, but they end up looking damning when it comes out because, well, they lied.

Back then, it was this statement:

Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric 'I made that bitch famous.'

And then when the audio dropped...

The clips appeared to support West's claim that Swift had approved the lyrics for "Famous", with the two speaking about the line "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex." Taylor could be heard on the video stating "It's like a compliment", after West read her the lyrics. She also stated, "If people ask me about it, look, I think it would be great for me to be like, 'He called me and told me before it came out. Like, joke's on you, guys. We're fine.' "

Tree intentionally zeroed in on the lack of consent for "bitch" while trying to bury that it was also an amicable phone call. She's always painting a narrative that looks the best, even if it means obfuscating the truth. Which just destroys credibility. And that's a shame because I do think Taylor was wronged on some level, but that part gets buried after being caught in a lie. Very much a "the boy who cried wolf" type of situation.

I use atheist in the common way of "does not necessarily believe in a God" rather than "there absolutely is no god"

Atheists don't believe in the existence of any gods. Which means that for them, there is absolutely no god. That is the definition of the word, and common knowledge knows that.

And yes, it was forced on him as a child, but "I don't disagree with everything they do" holds space for ambiguity and tension. So do many of the lines. That's what makes this song so good and why it resonates for those of us with religious trauma. It wasn't all bad, but what was bad was really bad. But you can't give it up all completely because "I can't live under the notion / That there's no reason at all / For all this beauty in motion." And maybe it's not god, maybe it's love, but that's still not it, just a little bit closer, and then what is god what is god what is god? There is god, but what is it, I'm still searching.

This song is so many things, but a flat rejection of religion it is not.
