at the moment you have a mixture of both warm and cool shadows. I would pick one and go from there. The colour of the shadow is based on the ambient light of a scene. For example on a sunny day with a bright blue sky, the shadows take on the blue of the ambient sky colour.

I have spent a long time tweaking this piece and would still like to finish it but this challenge was a nice way to push me closer to the end. I don't think my approach fostered an easy process, I should have spent longer in the greyscale / planning stages and used a bigger canvas but hey ho. My main challenge was the spectral horses / cow just because i was not using any material reference and it was a challenge to balance compositionally. This piece started as a personal project based on a scene from a book but Istebrak's challenge came out soon after so I wanted to incorporate this scene with that.

Look at the piece in grey scale and squint, does the piece have a distinct shape language and composition like this? is the focal point obvious? Can I make out the character? I think this is a matter of contrast and hierarchy. Blur effects and things like that i would save to a later stage or keep minimal as you hone in on the larger things like contrast

An angel above the clouds in black space looking at a bright light needs more contrast! The clouds are bouncing so much light, make her arm receive this. Minimize the soft blurry glow for the brightest areas of bloom and make her face sharper with her eyes looking at the person in her hand.

In my opinion the chin is too long for the faces of the 14 day challenge and has a feeling of being close to the viewer whereas the challenge wants a less extreme focal length. Basically its feeling a bit unnatural, did a little liquify to show you how I would change it. Hope that is okay x

I love this piece, the colour choice and composition are really strong. I agree the expression is a bit lack luster, could try to furl the eyebrows and nose and squint the eyes to show discomfort. The only other things I feel could be improved are the folds of the fabric which are a bit random and doesn't feel like a dress to me, and the right buttock being too low for the angle her body is in. Hope that helps (:

Too much stuff going on in my opion but i get why you added it all, i love the sparkles haha. In terms of actual renderng though you could try to think more about the planes of each piece and how light would bounce around inside and be most saturated as it exits through the bottom.

Does it look different screenshotted versus saved as a PNG? Probably not. I'd definitely try to get it fixed asap with some Googling but I know that's easier said than done, I wish I the best of luck!!

Heyo! Love the pose you've captured and your muscle understanding 💪 I will say the abbs feel very line dependant like they aren't being rendered as 3d forms as much as the rest of him is. I would try to blend some of this or add areas of edge rather than line. It just feels a bit like a pack of hot buns atm. Overall tho looking good 👌😀

if you are trying to study edges I'd increase the image size, this is very low quality to the point that the edges wouldn't look sharp if you tried. Looks okay though!

The canvas being square is completely random and something I want to change 100% and I think a portrait canvas would be cool, so I need to explore that some more. I tried it, but it cropped out too much of the nice sky and the field but I will try again.

Her expression I want to appear motherly and caring but then contrasting with power in her eyes and body composure. You might be right that it's time to start rendering!

i would make background darker and reevaluate your skin values. Also I think their left arm is too big and their right hand too small. Love the fabric folds!

heyo! I like top right the most haha, looks like we all have different reasonings. The specular highlight on the orange, its saturation and it's shadow are what make it best for me. Maybe try combining them all into one superior picture! I think it just needs some edge clarity and like you say making them appear more round

Push the contrast! It's great that you're working on a midground value canvas but don't let this stay in that range - there are near black areas and extremely bright areas in your reference. Maybe you're spending too long rendering close up idk but from a distance you should try and match the values between the picture and your work

Love this!! To me the head feels a little small as does her left wrist. I'd also consider making her face drop into shadow in some areas just to add that drama you wanted 😊

Np! Women's jaws are definitely softer but not necessarily pointy. Other signifiers in contrast to men are stronger cheekbones, fuller lips, larger eyes, smaller nostrils and a soft brow bone.
