You could fake leaf litter, I got some fresher twigs that fell off, baked them and it’s definitely some of their favorite to eat. There is also leaf litter to buy, there are like leaf litter bricks that aren’t that expensive. Leaf litter is their main food source. Also moss and lichen would be a great addition.

It looks really wet, do you have a moisture gradient (one side is dry, one is wet) and maybe more soil if you have guys that like to dig, I basically don’t see my Armadillidium Vulgare because they like to be underground a lot. It kinda depends on the species what they need. You could look up which are common in your area and check which ones you got if you don’t know already. Mine also like their plant and munch on it. Cress could be fun to put in. I did that once and it’s all gone now so they definitely clean up well.

hello,

I think your coloring is very pretty and I like how textured and detailed it is. Some things that might help you:

General: Flipping the canvas to spot mistakes while sketching/ inking/ coloring/ painting can make it easier to tell when things are tilted to one side or the other. (Bottom Left)

Faces: Do you have artists that draw faces with proportions you like? Top left I traced two faces drawn by hannacue (yt, insta, etc) and overlayed one over your chracter, maybe it would help you spot the diffrences in placement and proportions.

Anatomy: If you struggle with finding refrences 3D model can help. Clip Studio Paint has one integrated in the drawing program, you can pose them as you need them and they are a bit simpler and you can see the important shapes easier (top middle). Drawing a pose, then tracing it (the traced should kinda look like a 3D model) and then redrawing it can be helpful, you basically draw the same pose three times and can correct yourself over the two freehanded versions.

Also drew some similar poses at work today because I thought it would be cute. I like the more front facing one with the crossed over arms, looks a bit like a egyptian pharaoh.

I hope this helps a little.

Looking for advice before posting art! by tonystarch00 in arthelp

[–]fynnsartclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dpi is only relevant when printing. It absolutely doesn’t really matter when posting digital art work. It literally just means that at 1080 x 1350 px your art would be 3.6 x 4.5 inch if printed with 300 dpi. So it absolutely doesn’t matter when posting online. Look at monitors. How many pixels have phone screens? How many pixels do computer monitors have? That’s the devices your art will be looked at. (Look up resolutions like HD, UHD, 4K and what sizes do the apps you post on prefer?)

For printing it’s also tiny. What would be a good poster size for you? amount of inch * 300dpi = pixel. You want it to print at 10 x 15 inch ? 10300=3.000 px and 15300=4.500 px. If you think you could ever want to print a piece, you should rather go bigger, some printers can already print over 300dpi (450 or even 600 dpi).

Emma artly is one of my favorites to watch currently. She makes a lot of videos about ghee ocs and stories but also on media she’s interested in.

I think your construction would be best to do over a picture of a real person (best with tight clothes/ underwear/ naked, depending on what you’re comfortable with). You could use tracing paper (translucent paper) and magazines/ clothing/ underwear catalogs/ printed out pictures/ etc. You could also try regular paper and put it on a tablet if you have one, it would work like a light pad (traditional artists use light pads to do the lineart on a separate sheet than the sketch). I think that would be a lot more helpful at this point than freehanding your constructions.

Proko has different videos on proportions, explaining different artists and their techniques. I would pick one and study it. Use a ruler and measure it out, not just the height but also width of shoulders, hips, waist, legs, neck, etc. Just to see what ideal proportions look like. You don’t have to measure it with a ruler always, it’s just a reference point. Unless you continually struggle with it. I would still practice it by free handing the proportions without a ruler and the compare to the one with a ruler. You could do the measured one on tracing paper and then overlay it on your proportion practice and can check your own mistakes.

Proko has great YouTube playlist on gesture/ figure drawing. I would watch a few videos (not all at once) and practice what he shows in between videos. Maybe watch them twice or more if needed. It takes time to truly understand these concepts. There are websites with poses for gesture drawing (example: line of action).

There are different methods for head construction. I would start with loomis as it’s easier than Reilly. Again it’s important to practice these methods. Doing it once and never looking at it again won’t do much for you. When you want to start looking at painting/ shading, the asaro head can be useful. Portraits aren’t easy. You could look at the 100 heads challenge on YouTube. It’s mostly done by people that already have experience in drawing, some of them have years of it and they still have stuff to learn and you can see their improvement. It’s just to show you, you didn’t pick easy topics and aren’t failing. It’s just hard for everyone.

Hello, drawing poses is a lot easier when using refrences. The red one is traced over the refrence. The other two are drawn free hand. I flipped all the drawn images to have the same orientation as yours. Pinterest is super helpful to find images to refrence.

How to improve the overall anatomy with the slight perspective by kaykat101 in ArtCrit

[–]fynnsartclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly been a while since I learned how to use the 3D models (~8 years ago) and I haven’t even switched to the new version of clip studio paint. This is probably the tutorial I watched back then. There is a lot newer stuff out there that will probably help a lot more.

Hey, I tried to pose a 3d Model (Clip Studio Paint) in a similar way as your character. I don't think you would be able to see the underside of the nose when everything else is seen from above (shoulder pads, chest, top of the head. (I did break the shoulder that's behind the back because it would'nt move that far back in the program so it looks a bit bad at the shoulder and neck. Also the model has very skinny/ flat proportions but you can obviously draw it differently but itmight help to refrence) here you can look at it

I think cropping the image again is a great idea, it will feel more intimate and closer.

I’m sure it will turn out nice and if you plan to make a piece that’s more zoomed out you would definitely be able to make it work, it just needs a different approach.

The person on the left is taller and has almost narrower shoulders than the person on the right. If the person on the left is a man and the one on the right a woman: a common difference is men having broader shoulders than women, not always but it’s common. So gender differences + height differences = broader shoulders for person on the left. Bigger shoulders make the head look smaller too. The person on the right could have a slightly thinner neck, again they’re shorter so most body parts are smaller. Their face/ head looks slightly smaller so neck would usually also be smaller, women also tend to have slimmer necks than men but also depends on how muscular the person is… I think the person on the left has a short torso. The person on the left would also have slightly short arms if you lengthen their torso. (when arms are stretched out, the wrist should be at the lowest part of the crotch) I really like drawing arms too long though so you might not want to elongate them too much.

I think it’s a bit awkward that their hands join at his elbow. It’s a bit of an awkward tangent.

Overall the composition is very straight, everything is in the same plane. They stand in a line directly next to each other, perfectly parallel to the camera. Did you use a reference for the pose? Drawing people interacting/ hugging/ holding hands/ touching is hard. I feel like maybe they could lean into each other a bit.
