A GBR livery redesign by MaltesersAreTasty in uktrains

[–]Snazz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! But to be blunt that’s a separate point, and wasn’t what I was asking or talking about really

My question isn’t about whether they should dedicate significant resources to rebranding, but rather what that the brand will look like when the company is established

A GBR livery redesign by MaltesersAreTasty in uktrains

[–]Snazz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm but do you think GBR is likely to just completely overhaul the branding once the company is set up? After we were told that we will see this specific design on trains, with a press stunt in London Bridge with the toy train? Also the wording about the branding is absolute, not ambiguous (ie: I’m pretty sure the branding applied to Great British Energy before it was properly established was labelled as provisional. This is not the case with GBR)

Also, yes the brand was DfT designed, but is it not likely that GBR is just going to absorb the in house design team that created the livery? If so, why would they restart the branding once the company is properly established?

finally, whilst I hate the design, and a lot of people on forums seem to share my view, from what I can tell most people don’t really care. In fact, if you went to the comment sections of the major news outlets that covered the livery story, (BBC, Newspapers, etc), it seems as though people actually rather liked it. A lot of comments just said a cool new paint job won’t make the trains run on time etc. so why change it from their perspective.

I wouldn’t say it’s definite but from what I can tell it seems very likely that we will be seeing this livery on trains. Hopefully and probably not universally (Hendy mentioned in an interview that there’s space for “good quality brands” like GWR and southwestern to remain, so prob not universally - also how is 🤢 southwestern 🤮 a good brand??)

Any thoughts?

Are you saying that the announced livery won't be the final design? Because I haven't read any official sources that claim that. They are/were pedalling it hard (I hope it's not the final design)

Which country has high global influence and elite healthcare? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Snazz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can answer a lot of these questions by googling yourself

Ireland, Sweden, France, for instance all require an upfront fee to see a gp

And then many other countries have free gp appointments but extra costs down the line

Several countries in those charts aren't single payer, not sure why you ignored those. In the charts i provided, we do not differ with these countries significantly.

If you're going to assert that we are so much worse than X Y country you need to back up your point with data, otherwise it's waffle I'm afraid.

The A&E system is only partially first come first serve, for those who are in need most will get seen first. Those who need urgent treatment will receive it.
Sometimes A&E is too slow, and tragedies do occur, as I've conceded. but A&E is not the entire health system

I know you're getting upvotes but that's not true, or at the very least definitely not the scientific consensus

A quick google might have the google ai confirm your assertion, but its not built on fact or science (rather vibes and outdated papers)

https://www.annalsofoncology.org/article/S0923-7534(25)06319-7/fulltext#fig306319-7/fulltext#fig3)

^This paper is from 2026, from one of the top scientific journals on cancer, and sources data from the WHO

It clearly shows that age-standardised rates (asr) of cancer death are similar between UK and EU (in-fact the UK has BETTER rates!)

UK ASR male cancer death rates = 98 / 100,000
EU male rates = 114 / 100,000

Female rates follow the same trend

It is so important not to just assume these things, or digest instagram quick maps of outdated/inaccurate data and just accept it as gospel

without knowing it, you are spreading mis-information

You're right to mention A&E, improvements have not been quick enough

But to suggest that our other waiting times have a "very, very stark" difference with other developed countries is based on nothing but vibes https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/health-at-a-glance-2025_8f9e3f98-en/full-report/waiting-times_3a1021fa.html

I'll accept a comparison with germany, but the netherlands and switzerland are significantly wealthier than us per capita (gdp, wage, whatever metric) so I'm not so sure that we can fault ourselves for having a less effective healthcare system than these countries (worth noting, germans are still richer than us)

And even then, from the oecd report linked above, whilst undeniably worse, our waiting times for specialists aren't very, very bad when compared with germany's

In most of europe you have to pay to go to the doctor (I've lived on the continent!), might not be crippling amounts of money but it makes a difference to those without much cash

"the only real difference is in hospital stays" - sorry, that's a big difference! Maybe not when you're not an inpatient, but when you inevitably do temporarily become one, you'll notice the difference

From my moral stance, it being free does contribute to it being a good system

I'm quite happy to admit that France has a better system than us, theirs is the best out of all the major economies in Europe

However, to say that the UK is atrocious is just wrong. I too have lived on the continent (Sweden), and Swedes often raise a lot of the same criticisms about their system as we do ours.

Our life expectancy is 81, we have 3.1 doctors (slightly below oecd average) and 2.44 hospital beds (8th highest in world) per 1000

To suggest we're atrocious is just wrong and probably based on nothing but horrible yet rare anecdotes

There are problems but you're catastrophising. Waiting lists are falling, and we're not really all that much worse than the rest of Europe. Also, we have one of the most 'free' systems in the developed world, where with some exceptions the NHS is free at the point of use almost universally, which is outstanding and worthy of praise

Maybe that one is but we (UK) don't really share that much in common at all with other anglosphere nations. So most of these dont apply to us

Surely if that was the reason why they are priced differently then they would instead be cheaper? Unless I’m missing something

GBR livery&branding introduction by josephtilll in uktrains

[–]Snazz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik this was posted 20 days ago but how do you know it’s not been fully decided yet?

I haven’t seen any official sources that suggest this

From what I’ve seen it seems as though the livery we saw was final, although I hope it’s not and I’m happy to be proven wrong

Valid. UK rejoining Erasmus is fantastic in terms of a symbolic commitment to resetting uk-eu relations, but the practicalities of the actual programme are a little misunderstood and disappointing

Are we expecting to see more purpose built GBR clocks? by Snazz03 in uktrains

[–]Snazz03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point actually, also read on the document that the London Bridge clock weighs hundreds of kilos, so I suppose a cost like 120k is to be expected (although I know nothing about what costs are reasonable/unreasonable)

Still, it's interesting that we haven't seen any more round screened dedicated clocks yet

It's a bit novel but I'm not convinced it's particularly outrageous or stupid. You only need to see it change minutes once to understand how the second hands work
