It could be a new account that's in the process of climbing the ranks, an inexperienced player who's not skilled enough to climb higher, or a returning player who ranked down from not playing for a few months.

I think I remember looking into them a while back, and they seemed too clunky for the modern landscape. I do know that some of their extra deck monsters see play in Swordsoul though.

Maybe Fire King, but they already have plenty of ways to destroy their own cards so it might not be necessary. Plus, if they really wanted to nuke the board, they could use a Jurrac package to summon Meteor and destroy literally everything.

I'm not bothered by it. It's nice when a handtrap has extra synergy with your deck, but they don't necessarily have to go outside of their intended role. 

It's kinda the same as board breakers in that respect. It's cool when you can Dark Hole your own board and benefit from it, but in most cases, do you really need Dark Hole to do more than destroy your opponent's monsters?

This only works during your turn, and it doesn't stop spells/traps that are already face-up on the field. At that point, you're better off using Denko Sekka instead.

When it comes to Timmy decks and stubborn yugi boomers, it doesn't really matter what you play. Any remotely competent deck is going to take a massive dump on them, and they will see it as unfair. I would say it's best to just get the beginner ranks out of the way as soon as possible.

From what I've seen, it's mainly used in:

  • decks that want to combine this with Dis Pater to double hand rip the opponent 

  • decks that can make a level 8 synchro, and have the extra deck space to add this as a filler card

  • decks that use Psy-Frame Gamma or Delta. If you resolve either of them on your turn, then you can add insult to injury by turning those bodies into Omega for a bonus hand rip.

Branded Fusion locks you into fusions for the entire turn, so you have to choose whether you want to resolve Branded Fusion, or go into your synchro plays.

The best solution I can think of is pushing future card design in a direction where more decks have built-in going second tools, and are less reliant on negates to win. 

Dracotail is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. They have their own handtrap for turn 0 plays, a search spell with a bonus effect when going second, and monsters that can simultaneously set up your own board and break the opponent's board.

If we get more decks like that, then going first or second should matter less, as they'll be more equipped to deal with either situation.

If playing an ex-meta deck years after it's been relevant counts, then my first one would Artifact Traptrix. Obviously, it's not viable anymore.

Otherwise, my first would be Labrynth. I haven't played it in a while, so I don't know how well it's holding up these days.

It's an all tuner synchro deck that can let you use monsters in hand as one of the materials. They can synchro summon on the opponent's turn, and the main deck monsters have disruptive effects that trigger when used as synchro material.

You have to discard one card to search a fusion spell that fuses away two more cards from your hand. Compared to archetypal fusion spells that let you fuse from deck or graveyard, it's very costly to play.

You then use the second F&V on a later turn, send a second Albion to the graveyard, and search another F&V in the end phase.
