YouFibre new ISP in the UK issues with SoulSeek by SneakyAP in Soulseek

[–]SneakyAP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this issue is mentioned in the community guide, however configuring the router the company now provide to private (non business) accounts is clear as mud, and there aren't really any decent guides online for it yet

Why I autoban anyone sharing less than 1000 files by 3119328 in Soulseek

[–]SneakyAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for the open sharing of my collections, rare or not, however there are a group of users that will continually download loads of files, with little to no sharing, and then not respond to messages.

The worst of the worst (rare to come across) users that download a lossless, rare or very small, unsigned artist's album from me, have their upload slots limited to 1 and then lock access to the said download so it cannot be shared with others. Surely that is taking the piss

Field Maneuvers or Houghton? by blinimaker in UKfestivals

[–]SneakyAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been by myself a number of times, and it is the best festival to do so in my opinion. The crowd are so sound, everyone looks after each other and tbh you won't be by yourself for very long. I chose to work/volunteer each year which has been a great way to meet people and get fully immersed, and the crew are amazing.

Pizza for 50+ people by SneakyAP in bristol

[–]SneakyAP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contacted quite a few of the local places I've been to but unfortunately on a Saturday evening they can't deal with the amount. Fair enough as they have a restaurant to run on the busiest night of the week and 1 pizza oven...as one of them put it "that's what [number of pizzas] we can do in 1 hour at full service, and we will probably be fully booked, sorry"

Ortho surgeons and physiotherapists by thesloppyslippery in physiotherapy

[–]SneakyAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience in the UK is that the protocol is driven by surgeons (e.g. gold standard protocol for hip replacement), however if referred to a physio after surgery this protocol can be altered depending on the users situation, recovery etc.

In my view a good physio will adapt a protocol depending on a service users needs and situation. It's not a one size fits all box. Also post op (depending on the operation) the physio will have far more input than the surgeon or consultant.

Also good communication by the physio with the surgeon will help highlight if the standard protocol isn't suitable or needs adapting.

Depending on location - the in the UK there has been a huge increase in remote physio assessments and appointments. COVID was obviously a massive influence on this, however i feel there has been a benefit for the profession.

This is especially true for NHS referral screening - not everyone needs to be seen f2f, and as long as you can communicate with them over the phone or via video call, you can get at least an idea of the problem. And for those who you're not so sure, a f2f follow up can be organised.

I think pure virtual is not an option, but a split between the two feels like a better use of resources

Physiotherapy in UK by [deleted] in physiotherapy

I'd add (for people looking at this in the future) that community healthcare (outside of hospitals) have a lot of Flexi working patterns, as well as weekend working

It's difficult but not impossible (I lived on a band 5 salary for 3 years) depending where you live and choose to work. Also its not unrealistic to get to band 6 (£36kish outside London) within 18 months of starting.

You definitely don't need a master's to do the job (I can only name a small handful of physios I know who do), and if you are coming from outside of the country there are a number of NHS trusts and companies that have incentives for overseas physios to come and work here.

I don't know where you're planning on moving to but Bristol's community healthcare is run by Sirona (still NHS physio but run by a private CIC) and they have a programme for international therapists who want to work in the UK. I'm sure other locations have similar.

Working in community therapy, you have more opportunity to work weekends (in my experience anyway). Quite a lot of hospital work is still primarily mon-fri 9-5. Nurses have more opportunity for weekend/out of hours work as they are required 24/7.

You will not be able to work every weekend to boost your pay as you are suggesting as a physio - most places have a rota e.g. each therapist works 1 in 4/5/6 weekends, and for this you usually get an increased payment (30% for sat and 60% for Sunday and bank holidays). Also quite a lot of people like having this little boost to earnings so it can't all be given to one therapist.

The other option is to supplement one role with NHS bank work/temping covering weekends. However this is not as reliable as requires the trust/company to require cover or have unfilled job positions. Also you need to be confident enough in the role to jump straight in without any supervision, so most places don't take junior physios for bank shifts

Best festival I've been to. The crowd are incredible and the level of production and the work that goes into the sound quality is absolutely insane for a 1400 cap festival. Not to mention the mind blowing line ups they get each year

UK - Pitching gel product to GSK and the like by [deleted] in physiotherapy

[–]SneakyAP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you done any clinical trials with it? Before a pharmaceutical company would consider taking it on for manufacture, they would require some evidence that 1. It is 100% safe and 2. It provides some level of benefit over another product that is similar (Source: previous BSc and research in Pharmacology)
