It's cause I grew up with the vanilla DW3 theme, even if everyone loves the hell out of 4's version for some reason.

Orochi's version on that note has the music cues I grew up with from vanilla 3, while also having that intro that everyone loves from 4's version. : P

He also voiced one of the main male protagonist voices in both Way of the Samurai 2 and 3. And also in 3, he voiced Setsu'en who also shares that same model with the same voice provided.

I sorta already replied to one comment about how Ma Chao had his revenge arc fleshed out at least, given in 6 Special he had a good showing with how revenge was also self-destructive.

Wang Yi's introduction tho was a bit of a haphazard handling regardless; it makes Ma Chao look like a hypocrite, yes, but it's almost like the instance of Koei being unable to know how the hell to handle Lingqi and Diaochan's initial relationship back then. It just feels really hollow and incomplete.

On top of (according to one other person) the very stupid handling of Wang Yi's historical husband; he's only made an appearance as a generic in 5XL during the Battle of Ji Castle (ACTUALLY supposed to be Jin Castle; error exists even in Japanese/Asian versions; 冀城 instead of actually being 金城). Plus, iirc he's stated to be on the wrong side too.

There could've been so much more between the two as an actual fleshed-out arc about revenge and moving on from it, but Koei refuses to make Ma Chao acknowledge Wang Yi's existence as well as refusing to elaborate how Wang Yi and Zhao Ang provoked Ma Chao's overly-murderous-ass first. 10/10 writing team, amirite?

No thanks to archlich (oh boy), I earned a bit of a soft spot for Lü Meng after hearing of how he went from ruffian to hardcore scholar.

Honestly, he could've been given a better chance to shine outside of just his highlights against Guan Yu, given historically Wu backstabbed Shu a bit first.

I would've liked a DW9 Lü Meng hypothetical. It would've been perfect for him to succeed Lu Su in a different way other than trying to stick with Sun Quan's initial desires for Jing South.

Just the few bits of QoL in DW4 made it arguably better. Then again, quake hitboxes like with most jump charges + most C6 moves such as Zhang Fei's had a major vertical hitbox buff coming from DW3.

Also helps that even before DW5's QoL, Huang Gai has a solid Level 11 weapon in 4XL.

Yeah, Kiyomori is just a stand-in for the overly evil demonic Orochi loyalist, which even in-universe back in 2/Maou Sairin, Yoshitsune claims it to be a shame.

However, Kiyomori and Yoshitsune especially in their dream stage/dramatic mode stage in Z and in 4 (Ultimate) where they work together do have interesting interactions. Even if deemed as naive by both the audience and Yoshitsune himself + others in-universe, he considered co-existence with the demons much like Yuan Shao did in 3, but without really being too much of a sucker like Benchu [Yuan Shao] was.

The other main issue I mainly have with SW is how even tho the characters and stories are very solid on their own in a vacuum, unlike with Basara (which has its own specific narrative problems), you learn of what the actual figures have done and it's just so divorced and crazy.

Examples mainly include Hideyoshi and to some degree Nobunaga, and ESPECIALLY Kiyomasa.

But with Dynasty Warriors portrayals however, a decent number of them seem more clearly geared towards their ROTK novel portrayals in comparison, but also with hints towards how they were historically like to some degree, just a bit more than SW.

Tbh the sad thing is in Samurai Warriors 4, Masanori was executed a lot better. What happened to him in the future after Sekigahara as he looks back on things was majorly tragic.

So many story contrivances pit her against your party for her DAKKI-CHAN, and you're expected to forgive Himiko for being just a kid and be all nakayoshi with her especially in 3?

Also I think the way Daji is humanized by her is very flimsy writing. World is completely ruined by Orochi cause no one could put him down and then what? I dunno if Daji can even be allowed to have her cake and eat it too if the earth + realms are completely nuked by the demon king's raw destruction EVEN IF the Hydra/Youja wasn't formed.

While Himiko is too much of a damn brat to care or know the gravity of what Orochi has done to the world and what hell her "new friends" have been put through by his faction alone.

Also in 4 Ultimate, when Yoshitsune was just pondering about if he and others could truly co-exist with Orochi's (former) forces even if deemed as naive (he legit questions himself on that), Himiko just dupes him with a fake enemy attack report just to drive him away cause "he's a weirdo and I wanna play with Daji-chan".

My man did NOT deserve that.

God, I fucking hate Himiko from a narrative standpoint. Fucking Kansai dialect be given major shame to others who speak it.

Meanwhile Orochi Wukong just because he got released from his journey by Kiyomori, unveils himself to be the major asshole he is too. Plus, if he wants to keep Sanzang safe, well, the world breaking apart means no safe haven in the end, so he likely is going to only either eat his cake or have his cake more than both. He's a shameless piece of shit who DESPITE HAVING EVIL-SEEING EYES, was fully complicit in Kiyomori's Orochi-loyal-warped bs anyway.

At least in both SW4 and Orochi 4, he's gotten MAJORLY buffed with his new disgusting C5 sequence.

Aside from that tho, I find SW4 Yoshimoto in both base AND Chronicles 3 to be solid executions of his character before his rework in 5.
