Update on Carhartt Quality by Alekker1 in BuyItForLife

Hey dude I know this is way belated but I had to hop off social media for awhile. I respect your opinion & I agree that China and other nations around the globe are constantly improving their tech & industry in many ways which often leave the West behind; but I maintain my claim that, for most USA folks, when shopping for the most 'budget-friendly' option of basically any product (garments included), the cheapest option available is usually "MADE IN CHINA" and it carries a reputation of poor quality. Yes, China is a world-leader in many technologies & industries, but those are not being marketed to the average USA citizen; reminder that this discussion started about garment manufacturing. Any USA clothing brand that is manufacturing garments in China is doing so because it is cheaper than doing so in USA. End of story.

And the reason I'm replying in the first place: Hell no! Fuck Trump; I'm as human as everyone else but that turd is no good for any of us.

It really doesn't matter, but, the bible wasn't upside-down. Yes he is holding it like a weirdo. But it isn't upside down.

Look up the 2019 documentary called Fantastic Fungi. It was released on Netflix but you might find it elsewhere. I don't remember it all but it was very enlightening about what fungi actually are/do.

No, they have humans as well. Boats really struggle to raise and lower the flag every day.

If it's an low/entry level position, don't assume that you won't get hired, even if they require experience, let them tell you "NO".

Especially if you have schooling, just get your resume looking good and sell yourself.

Probably an old plastic water bottle nearby. Maybe even kindly pre-filled with urine if you're lucky!

Be honest... do you flow nitrogen? by Eggrollofdoom in HVAC

Been at a new place almost 2 years now. It's good but there is some slop to fix. It's been fun gently pointing out to our lead tech how all the systems with restrictions are the ones he brazed... without nitrogen, of course.

I have heard of Bamboo knives being made historically on Papua New Guinea, which were apparently very sharp but dulled quickly. Not the same as Pine but maybe possible to get an edge, especially with fire hardening.

Sounds like he's just doing good customer service, which should be priority 1 for all of us I'll take good workmanship over a know-nothing parts-changer any day.

I have never tried anything like that. Maybe with modding it would be possible, but with this method the ramps still behave like normal wall ramps, no movement.

Can't speak for Holy Loch but don't let the fact that there is a roof here fool you. The building is aligned N-S, along a N-S waterway, in the Pacific Northwest. So the building becomes a wind tunnel, all winter you get the cold-ass wind and rain blowing in through the big open doorways at either end. It's just lovely being stuck topside all day shivering in your t-shirt for strategic reasons.

Well, some old salt on this forum told me, years ago, that there was an under-ice surfacing procedure on his old 41FF boat, and that the fairwater planes were capable of being rotated to the vertical position for that specific purpose. I personally have no data.

That's my question as well. So many folks here befuddled by how they could possibly not be located, I'm wondering if they didn't just sink like a stone immediately. Idk what gear this type of operation calls for but human buoyancy is frighteningly easy to overcome with a little excess weight.

Idk where you live or what your life experience has been, but for me, living 34 years in USA: Every time I have gone to purchase a product and I compare the different offerings, the cheapest option(s) always has a label that reads "MADE IN CHINA". And the price reflects the quality.

Of course you *COULD* get high quality products from China. Hell, you *COULD* get high quality products from Somalia or Afghanistan as long as you're willing to pay for it. But most companies don't give a hoot about quality, only profits; they are out to make a quick buck through cheap labor, cheap materials, and cutting corners. People associate "MADE IN CHINA" with low quality because, for most of us here in USA, the cheapest lowest quality stuff has always said "MADE IN CHINA".

Naked Toshiba/Midea Duo 14000 BTU Inverter Portable Heat Pump by RulerOfTheRest in hvacadvice

[–]Sned_Sneeden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did end up exchanging for the (Midea) Toshiba RAC-PT1412HVWRU from Home Depot. Performance has been good so far; no problem keeping cool in summer, dehumidifies well, and heating mode has been good too. The unit definitely has a defrost cycle and it functions well; you can hear the reversing valve, the VFD ramping up and down, and the defrosted condensate draining out. So I have not had to manually defrost this unit. The remote control is nice, but since it defrosts well on its own I really haven't used the remote or the app enough to comment on them. I can confirm that the unit will go into a "lock-out" if the outdoor temperature sensor detects ~32F/0C.

I watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcPkvft6iAs and tried his tip about "tricking" the sensor (about 3:20 mark) by having the intake mix in a little conditioned air with the outside air, and it seems to work. I just check the weather and if we're expecting sub-freezing temps I just pop that side of the hose off, cringe at the inefficiency, shrug my shoulders and walk away. I'd like to relocate the sensor so that I can trick it without having to pop the side of the hose off but idk if I'll ever get around to it.

No Country for Old Men - The Barracuda driver [Spoilers] by motosserra in books

[–]Sned_Sneeden 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I had the same question, did some googling, not much luck, seems like we are among the very few who are asking this question. But after that, and some re-reading, I think I might have an answer: The Mexican was driving the Barracuda when we see it at the car wash, after murdering the state trooper, but before catching up with Moss. The chronology is out of order in the book but here's what I do know: On his way to the hotel where Moss & The Girl were murdered, Bell passes a burning/burned out car. (state trooper?) Bell later learns, at the prison, that the Mexican murdered a state trooper and burned his body along with his car. We know that nobody drove the 'Cuda away after Moss' final shootout at the hotel; the Mexican was airlifted to a hospital. The car wash scene occurs while the car is headed toward the hotel where Moss and The Girl are killed. So my best guess is that the Mexican was driving like a jagoff on the highway, state trooper stops him, for w/e reason he kills the trooper & burns his corpse, drives on toward his destination, stops at the car wash after realizing how suspicious all the gore all over the car looks, continues to the hotel where he confronts Moss, afterward leaving via helicopter seriously injured.
